Maybe it was North Korea, again. Much of the world's cyber crime, particularly DNS and related extortion ransomware is traced back to North Korea. The country has a state sponsored operation from which it derives much of its FX revenue. Almost every western government has an advisory and documentation on the issue. Here is one of the US briefings; https://www.cisa.gov/topics/cyber-threats-and-advisories/advanced-persistent-threats/north-korea

There are multiple long term supply contracts that cannot be surcharged because they are written to exclude impact of tariffs. Trump and friends were counting on that. The USA is about to get a big reality check when it loses access to new electricity from Quebec. It is also about to lose its backstop access on the spot market. This means that during peak energy times, the US northeast from Maine to Florida will suffer brownouts and blackouts because the US energy supply cannot meet demand. Consumers will also have to pay the higher cost of alternative sources if it can be found. As per the The Boston Globe Power supplier Hydro-Quebec stopped exporting electricity into New England’s wholesale market in recent days as the Trump administration rolled out tariffs for Canadian imports. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/03/11/business/hydro-quebec-electricity-exports-new-england/ Quebec, is one of the world’s biggest hydroelectricity producers, is looking at its legal options for its new multibillion-dollar power contracts signed with Massachusetts and New York for transmission projects slated to come online over the next 15 months. Americans love their AC, and if they can't have it this summer, they are going to be very angry and sweaty.

That is not what happened. Why mislead people? - Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he was temporarily suspending his province’s planned 25% surcharge on electricity exported to the U.S. - U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick called him and said, let's talk and it was agreed to meet and talk. As a gesture of good will, the surcharge was suspended, UNTIL after the. meeting. - After the call between Lutnick and Ford, a White House adviser confirmed that Trump had also suspended the additional steel and aluminum tariff asa gesture of good will too. There was no smack down, but. Ford got the attention of. Secretary Lutnick. The Canadian finance minsiter and premier Ford had a strategy to wake the USA up. Unlike the UK, Canada is not rolling over.

Keep it up. You have the mentality of a US daytrader, always wanting quick profit. This is a long haul change. We are only a few days into the economic madness of Donald and friends. The US consumers haven't seen the impact of tariffs, and won't for a few months. Offering childish insults about Canada isn't going to change the impact that tariffs will have. The shock of tariffs isn't going to tame inflation for long as Trump et al are gambling on. US consumers will cut back on spending, but it will be on services, and services are the bulk of the US economy. They will still need to buy essentials and it is the essentials that will increase 25% or more. Wait until the next flood or wild fire or hurricane when the USA is desperate for lumber, steel and aluminum. The current rebuilding in California is going to increase at least 10-15% because of tariffs. (and that's on top of the increase due to the shortage of labor because of the. loss of Mexicans). And before you make a crack about California, just remember it is the state that subsidizes much of the impoverished quasi bankrupt states like Alabama and Louisiana. The hurricane damaged part of North Carolina is still a big garbage dump wasteland because of the problems to rebuild due to construction material and labor shortages.

Wet leases are used by all major airlines and are intended to address short term capacity needs for events such as; -Withdrawal of aircraft for maintenance -Shortages of aircraft and personnel during peak travel times - Route specific allowing use of appropriate aircraft Typically, wet leases are for the short term. Swiss uses them for some service in the Balkans. Air Canada has used them. Eurowings uses them. All are unionized and the pilots and cabin crews don't have hissy fits. The Thai pilots are making a big deal out of an airline's normal activities.

Some of the comments from IG are hilarious; - Sure, because hackers make sure to leave their VPNs on and never cover their tracks - Someone forgot to use their VPN - Big Balls sold the code on the dark web Highly doubtful it was Ukraine. Not that they don't do crap like that, but this is more of a Russian adventure scenario, or more likely a fail at the website that is easier to blame on "Ukraine" than to address.

That's the ANA row for checkin. A wheelchair will be brought for you there and you will be wheeled to immigration and from there either to a holding place where you will sit until collected and deposited at the gate, or taken directly to the gate. (That's what I see when I checkin for my ANA flights in the afternoon to NRT.) From what I have seen the wheelchair people are very nice and helpful. If you are transiting at NRT, or elsewhere, a chair will be there at the gate. Please remind them at checkin. This will probably already be noted on your reservation, but sometimes people forget.

Phuket Hit-and-Run: Police Hunt Knife-Wielding Foreigners - video

No mention of the lead up to the event. For all anyone knows the moto driver may have threatened the truck. -
I don't know enough to comment on that, but I have been on a new build Chinese bulk freighter and was shocked to see the poor engine control room and set up. They had literally placed control panels in difficult to access places behind equipment. It was an exceptionally poor design according to the chief engineer. He said it was made worse because all the vessels of this particular model had the same defect and no one had bothered to change the design. I also note that while China relies on a massive trawler fleet for spying, those vessels are often appear to be poorly maintained. Often rusted, and typically seen belching thick black smoke and releasing raw sewage and. polluted bilge.

Could Trump's plan fail in a spectacular fashion?
Patong2021 replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
Worthy of a separate thread. I believe that you make a valid point. It will be rejected by some because it is a position that illuminates the chaos that Trump is causing. The self appointed market experts who's expertise consist of day trading will weigh in with regurgitations of Trump Truth Social posts. We'll soon see the crypto bros popping up to tell us that crypto is our salvation. And this leads into a palpable concern that I have. This just doesn't seem right. Trump was the one who forced a renegotiation of the USMCA and now he rejects that agreement. I doubt Trump could have done all this damage alone. I have a growing suspicion that there is a group who are pushing the confrontations and trade wars with everyone because their is a profit opportunity in it for them. There is no benefit to the USA to see its economy disrupted and alliances destroyed. Musk is part of the South African Paypal "mafia" that has a history that would shock alot of people. His grandfather was a neonazi who advocated the creation of a technocracy with the no democracy, just an authoritarian rule decided upon the elites. The other South Africans who made their money in paypal have similar upbringings and are mixed up in politics too. This is playing out like a James Bond film. -

Some people need to be told multiple times the part about the smoke free status of government premises, and even then they still refuse to accept the reality. Instead ,they are intent on pushing their personal bias. -

They are selling now at below market prices, they can price higher. US shale gas boom has peaked. Canadian oil and gas might be available on world market in 3-5 years time if they get their act together. BRICS might be in the right place at the right time as the USA faces an energy crisis in 5-10 years. -

Jan 30 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Thursday warned off BRICS member countries from replacing the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency by repeating a 100%-tariffs threat he had made weeks after winning the November presidential elections. "We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs," Trump said on Truth Social in a statement nearly identical to one he posted on Nov. 30. Let's see how the USA reacts. 😃 -
And so the exodus of quality expats begins. This time it's personal

Phuket is a bubble waiting to pop. If it hadn't been for the Ukraine war and sanctions on Russia, it would have popped years ago. The Chinese are no longer there. The place owes its current prosperity to the presence of the growing Russian and Middle Eastern communities. That's who is buying the overpriced new builds. -
There is a difference between cruising and engaging in hookups in places that can result in physical harm. That was my intent. I invite you to visit some of the gay support websites and see for yourself. The support groups all urge caution and that there are inherent risks from homophobic assaults, to opportunistic muggers to sexual assault. Here is an example, in the event that you are considering cruising in a public park; Leave valuables at home You won’t need your credit cards or a lot of cash. If you take your phone, put it in silent mode and keep it out of sight. Don’t walk around checking Grindr on your new smartphone. Not only will you be advertising it to potential pickpockets, but you may not notice if guys are cruising you. Keep clear of trouble There may be occasions when you need to refuse unwanted advances or find yourself in a difficult situation. Try to avoid confrontation, but be prepared to raise your voice or push someone away if they continue trying to do something after you’ve said no. If you’re the victim of a crime, like theft, assault or homophobic abuse, or if you witness something happening, you might feel reluctant to go to the police in case you get asked why you were there.
