  1. Khun LA has great points. You might also contact the camera club (CMPG), get on the forum, and ask the question.
  2. If you live in a guarded community, ask the guard. They are often good sources.
  3. I frequently have 20-30 tabs open at a time with no security problems to date (doing this for years). But when I open, say, a bank's on-line program, I do my business and close it immediately. So I would say it is not the amount of tabs being open that put you at risk.
  4. Are you asking them in Thai or English?
  5. In many parts of the city (and the country), the buried "sewers" can not handle the volume of water during heavy rains, specially when they drain into a common klong that has many sewers emptying into it. And the sewers may not be buried that deeply so when they don't drain correctly (i.e., quickly) water backs up and comes out the gutter drains. Some or all of a housing development's sewers may drain into a klong right outside their property drain, and we have all seen klongs overgrown with whatever. And all the development over the years has severely restricted ground water run off. Yes, ask the development's office for relief or go to the Tessaban and see what avenues are open there.
  6. Make sure you get a certified legal copy of windows complete with its code so you can register it on line as (a) legal and (b) yours.
  7. That is a sign of a troubled person. Not to be made fun of.
  8. If you decide to go the income route, I would recommend starting to transfer money maybe two months before your current extension expires (for all the obvious reasons). Better safe than sorry.
  9. If you have someone that can pick them up, you might consider sending the 3 big bags by either the post office or by bus from Pattaya to Chiangmai. Then have your worry free, baggage free trip from Pattaya to Hua Lumpong and then the nostalgic train ride..... OR.... have a friend in Pattaya ship them after you are here and estalished in Chiangmai.
  10. The key missing information is was she riding on the highway or was she illegally passing on the left. Many shoulders are wide enough for cars but that does not make them a legal traffic lane.
  11. There many tree lots around Chiangmai selling mature trees. There is one on Hwy 1001 north of the middle ring road intersection on the east side. I have seen others but haven't paid attention.
  12. systane eye drops are better
  13. What happens if you don't hang around with 5 people? 4? 3? 2? Anyone? Maybe occasionally do something with 1 or 2 others? I guess I can just be the average of myself.
  14. KhunLA was correct. If the hospital you go to recognizes your insurance company, has experience with them, they may bill directly. If not, you should be prepared to pay cash and then you bill the insurance. In some cases, insurance policies have deductible and or co-pay. If the hospital will bill directly and your insurance has a deductible or co-pay, you should expect to pay that even if the hospital direct bills.
  15. I have worked with SSA Manila office for the last 12+ years helping Americans, Thai/Americans, and Thais collect SS benefits either to be deposited in a U.S. bank or a Thai bank. I find the agents there are completely professional and competent in every way. Only occasionally does the agent I am working with misunderstand the situation. I think that only at the most 5 times over the 12 years have I had to elevate the issue to the Manila SSA Director.
  16. Yes someone will sign. I mail something to the Embassy and EMS says the guard signs for it.
  17. Did you have the hospital look at your policy and give you their interpretation? How would they bill, the company or you? If the company, they may have experience with that company and know how to bill to get the maximum reimbursement for their patient.
  18. I find it oh so hard to even think about buying a lottery ticket after learning that no one, literally no one (public at large) has access to all the tickets. Unlike an electronic lottery where several people can buy the same number and split the jackpot, paper tickets are divided up and spread country wide. You come with the winning numbers for the jackpot in Chiangmai, but the ticket with those numbers was sent to Hat Yai.
  19. I would think all medicines and supplies will more expensive at any hospital than if you were to buy them from a pharmacy. The medical supplies have an office to maintain, computers to maintain, overhead, personnel costs, warehouse/storage costs (environmentally controlled, of course), etc. Every hospital, private or government, has overhead. If you object to the hospital charges, I would think you could, as you mentioned having done before, just get the doctor's list of meds for your ailment (and written prescription when required) and buy them at your local pharmacy. I frequently do that when I need a refill and don't want to pay for a hospital visit, etc., just buy from the closest pharmacy.
  20. McKean Hospital has one. Did you try googling assisted living your area? I did so for Chiangmai and found some listed. So Google might be a source for you. We got literally 24 hour home care for 20,000 baht per month starting when my MIL had limited mobility. Trained for 3 months on basic care, no real medical training. No meds involved except pills, no injections. If doctor visit was required, got ambulance to pick up and return. Continued on after becoming bedridden and until death at home. When the care taker wanted time off, a substitute was provided. Again, this was in Chiangmai. Farang across the street had a stroke and was bedridden. His wife got a similar caretaker who also fed him through a tube in his stomach. Could talk a little but could not swollow.
  21. It would probably help getting helpful suggestions if you provided details. Cognitive issues or strictly physical? Does she have a home and a live-in care taker would suffice? How much can you afford to spend? Does she need a nursing home environment where nurses are on duty 24 hr/day, doctor on call, etc.?
