I responded to your initial post. Which I found the need to share odd. Many of us have minor mishaps all the time, we don't feel the need to share unless we think help is required. Half-hearted revellers milling about with water guns, and the place looks no busier than a random low-season Tuesday. The mob reported at KSR are all probably leaving the Kingdom by next week. Thailand had better pivot to the industries departing overpriced and unpredictable China before their neighbours take the lions share. "Quality" tourists have the entire world to roam, and they tend to go for "quality" experiences! Super hazardous air pollution, isn't a quality experience.

The mask wearing is all about ongoing misperceptions and how "the group" in Asia takes precedence over the individual. The group fear the virus because they rightly feel they have no control over it, but masks were always only about harm reduction until the vaccines and/or virus mutated to current weak strains. The group don't wear helmets because they wrongly assume pre departure prayers and lucky amulets are enough, or overrate their skill, or just don't think things through before they act -critical thinking is not taught at school, it's even discouraged, to keep the group in line. Also, the group don't realise how life-changing even 20 km/h is when their head and flesh meet concrete, which is odd, given they all must have seen at least one mangled corpse in their Soi, or know someone who lost someone. And so here we are, counting the daily dead, and wearing masks on motorbikes.

Exactly. Most westerners back in western-land are pretty clueless about Thailand. They lump all these places together in their minds when they think of holidays, the Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia, India, is all just tropical and foriegn to most of them.
