  1. NYTimes headline today: Trump’s Cabinet Picks, Panned in Washington, Thrill Many of His Voters Where Donald Trump’s critics see underqualified nominees with questionable judgment, his voters described them as mavericks recruited to shake up Washington. Seems that DJT's toughest critics on cabinet picks right now are Republican Senators.
  2. Regarding Trump's cabinet level picks so far -- except for maybe Marco Rubio -- I think of the line from Jimi Hendrix: I know what I want, but I just don't know How to go about getting it
  3. Sure but first they have to have a 10 day recess with no interim short pro forma sessions and that ain't duck soup with only a 3 or 4 Repub majority including Vance's break the tie vote.
  4. The only candidate for majority leader that was gung-ho on recess appointment was Florida's Rick Scott, but he didn't make it.
  5. Trump calls on GOP senators vying to be majority leader to agree to recess appointments Updated 7:31 PM EST, Sun November 10, 2024 That was before he made his first announcements including Gaetz.
  6. Two more words courtesy (DEM) Senator Sheldon Whitehouse: Crawl Test i.e. Gaetz and Gabbard nominations will test Republican senators’ willingness to crawl for Trump.
  7. Because Mat Staver is not a journalist. Headline from elsewhere: Florida Christian conservative blasts Trump’s choice of Matt Gaetz as A.G.
  8. Why Matt Gaetz is not qualified to be U.S. attorney general By Mat Staver – Special to Higher Ground - Thursday, November 14, 2024 President-elect Donald Trump has quickly named many good choices to serve in his Cabinet. But Matt Gaetz is not one of them. The nomination of Mr. Gaetz as attorney general is shocking and disappointing to those who have followed this man and the serious allegations that follow him. Based on his lack of legal experience and other personal concerns, Mr. Gaetz has neither the experience nor the moral character to serve as the chief law enforcement officer in the federal government. Mr. Gaetz’s minimal experience in the practice of law is hardly enough to serve as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. Mr. Gaetz should do Mr. Trump and all of America a favor and withdraw his name from consideration. This will save him considerable embarrassment. Our country deserves better. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/nov/14/matt-gaetz-qualified-u-attorney-general/
  9. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, a Republican on the judiciary panel that will decide whether to advance Gaetz’s nomination to the full Senate, said Thursday morning that he “absolutely” wants to see the ethics committee’s final report. “I think there should not be any limitation on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation, including whatever the House Ethics Committee is generated,” Cornyn told reporters on Capitol Hill. He added that while “it’s premature to count votes,” there are “a lot of questions.” https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/14/trump-matt-gaetz-house-sex-drug-probe-attorney-general.html
  10. Todd Blanche -- who Trump has said he will name Deputy AG and who literally sat next to Trump for weeks on end in the NY Courtroom of the 34 felonies -- would, if he takes the spot as of now, be answerable to AG Matt Gaetz. OK.
  11. I am a paid subscriber to the very profitable NY Times along with 10+ million other paid subscribers but I will spare you all the details as it is now impossible to provide any link to a NY Times article on here without someone replying: "Oh yeah? But what about Hunter's laptop, HUH?"
  12. Trump picks his defense lawyers for top Justice Department posts WASHINGTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday picked three members of his criminal defense team, including lead attorney Todd Blanche, to serve in senior roles at the Justice Department. Trump nominated Blanche, who defended him at trial this year in a criminal case over hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels, to serve as deputy attorney general, the second-highest position at the Justice Department. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-picks-his-attorney-todd-blanche-deputy-attorney-general-2024-11-14/ ******* IMHO all three including Emil Bove and John Sauer are highly credible and Blanche would have easy confirmation as full AG if/when Gaetz is out of the picture.
  13. From first google search page as above: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article295488794.html On previous deployments, Washington said she has told her team to avoid any streets where multiple homes had been verbally abusive to FEMA canvassers — including properties that featured signs for the Harris campaign, and homes with no signage at all. On the Milton deployment, Washington said, roughly 20 homes were identified as hostile after canvassers experienced verbal “aggression.” “We omitted these homes for safety precautions, not because of political plight. Like, no one cares about that. We want to make sure people can register,” Washington said. “You have to understand, when we go out here in the field, we don’t have security detail. We do not have police detail. We are all we have in the field.”
  14. Elsewhere on the non-MSM: Matt Gaetz becomes Trump’s sacrificial lamb November 13, 2024 4:39 pm President-elect Donald Trump‘s early Cabinet appointments have ranged from the obvious (brilliant House Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as ambassador to the United Nations) to the inspired (Fox News’s Pete Hegseth as defense secretary) to the aggravating (Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) as homeland security secretary). But the former and future president’s announcement that he is nominating Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as attorney general is Trump’s first pick that obviously, and intentionally, is dead on arrival. Perhaps Trump just wants Gaetz as the Justice Department’s top dog, but just as likely are the odds that he is intentionally making the Florida firebrand his fall guy. As a sacrificial lamb, Gaetz’s nomination may be very well intended to fail to give the centrist wing of the party cover when political opponents try to accuse them of rubber-stamping all of Trump’s appointments. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/beltway-confidential/3229181/matt-gaetz-trump-sacrificial-lamb/
  15. Sometimes it does sound a bit like one of those country-song-played-backwards jokes.
  16. The Project 2025 authors are all highly credible PhD academics and law school professors many who served in the prior Trump and other Republican administrations. As such the Heritage group served as the 'farm team' for those while out of office and awaiting (hopefully) a new office. That is all I have ever said nor something I thought I "got".

  18. About which you haven't the slightest idea, which I suppose is an excuse for playing more scary music. Now if you did, what difference do you know it would make, except as a reason to blow more hot air? Appointment of Tom Homan to “Border Czar” First Step in Move Toward Project 2025 Administration WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Project 2025 contributor Tom Homan will serve as the “border czar” in his incoming administration. Homan, who previously served in the first Trump administration as acting director of ICE, also contributed to the controversial GOP playbook, Project 2025. https://accountable.us/trump-already-breaks-promise-and-taps-project-2025-contributor-to-key-role-in-administration/

  20. I guess so but that post was before he was elected. The times and I were both different, but I can also remember 1972 when Nixon was re-elected. Say what?
  21. OK. REDUX take 2: Pre-Covid maybe 2019 I was in a BigC when I had a brief chat with an older Brit. He asked me what I thought of then President Trump. I said I didn't vote for him in 2016 and won't vote for him in 2020. But he IS the President for now and, wishing him any failure for political gain, is for fools. So I hope Trump is not again elected, but, if he is, I will just as above hope for the best for the country.
  22. OK. Was looking for "Kristi" before posting.

  24. No. As someone living in Thailand full time, I had no idea in 2016 to the extent people in US felt disenfranchised and disaffected such that Trump won. This year I am not so surprised Per Willie Nelson in Electric Horseman: Wendall : I'm gonna get me a bottle of tequila and find me one of them Keno girls that can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch and just kinda kick back.
  25. With apologies to Reinhold Niebuhr: Give me the wisdom to know what can be changed, and the wisdom to know what can't be changed and screw the rest.
