  1. I made no disparaging remark about Pattaya. Just that, per your OP "when we meet non-Americans", I just don't meet non-Thai non-Americans much or at all where I live.
  2. REDUX Posted Thursday at 09:28 AM (edited) My first vote for President was 1972. I've live through Nixon Ford, Reagan, 2x Bush and 1 previous term for Trump. I'll deal with this one maybe like this ('cept I don't drink):
  3. Fine. You can do the worrying about it for me.
  4. Yes and according to the linked Newsweek article it might even happen as early as 10 year from now.
  5. Updated Nov 07, 2024 at 2:13 PM EST -- One chief concern throughout the election campaign has been Social Security, which currently faces a funding crisis that would see benefits slashed by roughly 20 percent by as early as 2035. https://www.newsweek.com/what-donald-trump-win-means-social-security-funding-crisis-no-cuts-pledge-1978310
  6. So maybe you're hoping under Trump there will be cutbacks in ObamaCare and Medicare so that "claim denied" (will be) likely and common.
  7. Reagan in the 1980 debate with then President Jimmy Carter famously asked: “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?” He didn't ask are other people better off, he asked about YOU. I realize, as James Carville said in 1992 "It's the economy, stupid" and that may be the single best reason why the Dems lost this week. Whether Trump can make happy those people who feel disenfranchised and disillusioned with their current economic straits, I guess we will find out later.
  8. I have no control over what he does or doesn't do so I'll just wait and see what happens, if anything. ********************* One chief concern throughout the election campaign has been Social Security, which currently faces a funding crisis that would see benefits slashed by roughly 20 percent by as early as 2035. Trump has been vocal in his pledge not to cut any Social Security benefits once he becomes president. "I will not cut one penny from Social Security or Medicare," Trump said at a campaign rally in Florida this July. "And I will not raise the retirement age by one day." https://www.newsweek.com/what-donald-trump-win-means-social-security-funding-crisis-no-cuts-pledge-1978310
  9. I am a 70+ years old guy in NE Thailand. I have and have never had any immediate family wives or children in USofA (e.g. the guy whose daughter comes to visit him in Thailand and she is older than his current Thai wife). As far as MY connection to the US, what matters to me are these concerns: The US Stock market The money/bond market Social Security Medicare (if needed) The USD to Thai baht exchange rate to the extent influenced by the US economy And for me, personally, as long as those things stay copacetic I don't really care who is US President.
  10. Biden was not going to resign at any point. But if he withdrew his nomination JAN1, there would've been time for a mini primary. At JUL 23, none of those who would be considered as viable candidates in addition to Harris were interested in that short order.
  11. If Joe Biden had withdrawn his nomination January 1, 2024 instead of July 21, 2024, this whole thing might of been different.

  13. Whatever might be the liberal melt-down on here, I am glad that AN provides a space for the MAGA melt-up (if that's a word) rather than my being back in Florida in a county that went 80+ % for Trump this election and having some guy in line at WalMart ask me: So whodja vote for? And where I live in the Isaan boondocks ain't anyone gonna ask Whodja vote for. And in the "When given lemons, make lemonade" department, at least for now, today's NY Times headline: ** Stocks Set Records and Dollar Soars After Trump Election Win **
  14. REDUX posted October 1, 2024 Pre-Covid maybe 2019 I was in a BigC when I had a brief chat with an older Brit. He asked me what I thought of then President Trump. I said I didn't vote for him in 2016 and won't vote for him in 2020. But he IS the President for now and, wishing him any failure for political gain, is for fools. So I hope Trump is not again elected, but, if he is, I will just as above hope for the best for the country. https://aseannow.com/topic/1338486-i-love-donald-trump/?do=findComment&comment=19272706
  15. jerrymahoney Posted October 25 I want Ms. Harris to win. But if it is Mr. Trump again, per the song 'Mockingbird' from 1963: I might rise above, I might go below Ride with the tide and go with the flow ************* and from 1888: Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright, The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout, But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.
  16. Well my F-I-L is retired and was mostly what we in US would call a beat cop in a semi-rural area. Never a big shot like the ones you suggest. But I'll guess he could call in a favor if he had to. And you left out from your reply above there is only one captain of the ship
  17. OK but I don't want a Thai girl to have my back -- as she is a Thai citizen and I am not, I want her out in front taking the hits, if any. Since my wife is from an RT Police family, she tends to do that anyway.
  18. My only US friends anymore are folks I have known for 50 years and -- as they are all international travelers -- would more likely visit me in Thailand before I visit them in US. Other than that, my only friends these days are Thai females who could not tell you who is the current US president.
  19. And the canned answer you receive from Trump supporters is that we don't care that he is insane or whatever -- we just like his policies.
  20. Here it is: https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/polish-radio-station-abandons-ai-presenters-outcry-115234983 Last Tuesday the station broadcast an “interview” conducted by an AI-generated presenter with a voice pretending to be Wisława Szymborska, a Polish poet and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature who died in 2012.
  21. In the NY Times today it says, just as the polls were wrong in 2016 because people were embarrassed to admit they would be voting for Mr. Trump, on-the-ground Harris folks in PA have been told not to go to any house with a Trump poster out front as to not cause a problem for someone in the house who actually and secretly intends to vote for Ms. Harris.
  22. “It’s so bad they should lose their license, and they should take ’60 Minutes’ off the air,” Trump told right-wing podcaster Dan Bongino last week. National networks like CBS are not licensed, but local stations are. (And the parent company of CBS, Paramount Global, owns some local stations.) The licensing agency is the government’s Federal Communications Commission, which grants eight-year license terms, and hasn’t denied any license renewal in decades. The process “is so time consuming that no license renewal could be denied before the end of a hypothetical second Trump term,” public interest lawyer Andrew Jay Schwartzman told CNN. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/10/22/media/trump-strip-tv-station-licenses-punish-media/index.html
  23. From the complaint filed in Amarillo TX Federal Court: 55. President Trump is a “consumer” within the meaning of the DTPA, since he is an individual who sought and received CBS’s broadcast services. From the DPTA Texas statutes: Sec. 17.45. DEFINITIONS. As used in this subchapter: (4) "Consumer" means an individual, partnership, corporation, this state, or a subdivision or agency of this state who seeks or acquires by purchase or lease, any goods or services, except that the term does not include a business consumer that has assets of $25 million or more, or that is owned or controlled by a corporation or entity with assets of $25 million or more. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/BC/htm/BC.17.htm
  24. BTW GG most of the world's Tang supply is manufactured in Nam Phong, Khon Kaen province.
