  1. If it stopped only 10% of diesel particulates that would otherwise be inhaled then it's already doing a good job. Wouldn't need to be airtight for that.
  2. Maybe they didn't wear masks pre-COVID, but since being forced to wear them, they found other benefits (like cleaner faces and better breathing) while being forced to wear them and took the decision to continue even after the requirement was dropped. Sounds like you've already made up your mind though.
  3. JP is far from UNbiased on the subject of gender. He also doesn't believe in climate change and is the poster boy for many bible bashers.
  4. A UK passport with only 1 day left on it will still get her back into the UK. It's when travelling to foreign countries where they want you to have x months left on your passport. I would think it would be the same for the Thai passport when coming back to enter Thailand.
  5. Do a Google image search for "car kick plates" or "car scuff plates" and you pretty much get the same results. I've personally neither kicked or scuffed them and I've probably driven the car 10 times maximum. I'd have expected them to last more than a couple of months. Wife has already paid a deposit to buy new ones so looks like the decision has been taken out of my hands. I just get to pay the bill and smile.
  6. In that case, for double the price I got even more for free ????
  7. Yep. Time will tell but most Toyota owners seems to share the opinion. It's the GR Sport. They've stopped the Legender now. The base models are "Fortuner Leader" with the GR Sport being the highest spec and listed separately.
  8. The most expensive times I ever paid for sex with a woman that only pretended to like it was with my ex-wife.
  9. Had the Fortuner a little over 5 months now. I've already mentioned my dislikes about the car (well under spec'd for a car at this price point) so I wont go there again. Thoughts to date: 1.) Beautiful looking car. Haven't seen another SUV that beats it in that department, probably why the wife wanted it so much. 2.) Drives OK. Nothing special. I've no complaints in this department at all, but I'm also not blown away with thoughts of "I can't believe it drives so well". 3.) Penny pinching dealer: 4.) If I had to buy now, it would be a toss up between the same car and a Nissan Terra (cheaper and better spec'd but probably a little too big). To expand on point 3: Paid full list price and got the car, tank of fuel, wind deflectors, small plastic boot protector, window tinting and a front/rear Toyota branded camera system for recording (which doesn't interface at all with anything else in the car) and a period (can't remember how long) of "free" servicing. No complaints here again, I accepted the deal. The car interior had to be stripped quite a lot to fit the camera recording system and the relays in the doors to fold the mirrors on locking the car. (which I paid extra for) I didn't question the cost of the folding mirrors but was disappointed that they weren't standard as I didn't want the car interior to be taken apart to fit them. Around a month after the cameras were fitted, they stopped working. We informed the dealer about this and they said they would look at it when the car was in for its 5000km oil change. At said service, they took the interior apart again to check the wiring and said it wasn't at fault, the system was broken. I'd have to pay for a new one as it wasn't under any kind of guarantee as it was "free". My first comment was, if you'd told me that at the beginning I wouldn't have had it fitted (I'd have paid for a much better one myself that did have a guarantee). I also mentioned 2 things about the kick-plates. 3 of them state "Fortuner", but the passenger side rear one states "Legender". I questioned this and was insta-told that this was normal. Really? They told me they would show me another GR Sport the same but this didn't happen. The front driver's side kick plate has already started losing its rubber surround and looks naff: "Someone has stepped on it" was the instant reply. "A kick plate that you can't step on?" was mine. After around 20 minutes of haggling over the cameras, they said they would "speak to the man in Bangkok" and see what happens. 2 months later and they have fitted a new one and also said it does have a guarantee. Thanks, but why not just agree to this in the first place? 3 of the 4 months of car ownership were without recording. Not pleasant. My free service cost me ~3000 baht. No big deal but I did ask why they call it free servicing. "The labor is free sir" they said... "so call it free servicing labor then" was my reply. While the camera was being replaced (and the interior taken apart for the 3rd time in 5 months), my wife agreed to buy 4 new kick plates. Apparently they only come as a pack of 4. This is to replace the driver's one with the broken rubber surround. She didn't want to argue the toss. I can't wait for them to arrive. If the rear passenger kick plate says "Fortuner" I will ask them to buy another set of 4 to replace the "Legender" one, which is normal apparently. They will have to buy 4 of course, or they can just buy the one that came in my pack of 4 If it says "Legender" I will offer them my full apologies and be on my way ????
  10. "Officials said that wind was strong at the time of the accident and the net might have given way because it could not hold the weight." This one must have graduated top of the class.
  11. Although there were reports that he muttered "wibble".
  12. Seen that quite a lot in Bangkok... and always in areas where there are zero trash bins.
  13. Lots of cruel things in this world. Not sure I'd include that on the list.
  14. They seem to be making it harder and harder. Last time I needed passport copies and original plus copy of rental agreement and the application form. They also now seem to be checking that the stapled address info in the back of your passport (not the 90 day report slip) is recent and accurate. Don't bother trying to be smart and downloading the forms from the immigration website. Every time I've done this they've told me the forms are old and given me new ones and a trip to the back of the queue.
  15. Rarely if ever used white tape on straight connections with a washer. It's the washer that forms the seal, not the thread. On things like pool water fittings it's a different matter. If you ever do gas connections, it's a different kind of tape (usually yellow and thicker). If you're short of rubber washers, Boonthavorn have them. I've not found them at the likes of Home Pro or Thai Watsadu.

    True vs 3BB

Used True for 7 years. Internet is pretty good. The odd outage, but friends in the UK seem to have more. I'm forever remoting onto computers in Europe and the US and it works better than I expected (perfectly in fact). Their TV service, on the other hand, is a completely different story.
  17. 5 months into having a new Fortuner. It's a lovely looking car and OK to drive, but is overpriced (ignoring the fact that it holds value well to offset that initial cost). Pay more for folding mirrors. Pay more for front and rear recording cameras (even though it has a million cameras built in). No rain sensor on windscreen wipers. Have to use Android Auto or Apple Car thingy for things that are standard features on other cars (and wireless doesn't seem to work, so the wireless charging pad is pretty useless when you have to plug a cable in anyway). Not had to use 4WD as of yet so can't really comment on that. I'm ultra critical of new cars (especially when they cost $60k and are mode in Thailand). Still glad I bought it, but my friend just bought a Nissan Terra and that seems to be a hell of a lot more car for the money (literally, as it's bigger too).
  18. At 5000 baht per day they'd need more than that.
  19. Pretty much the only comment on the whole topic worth reading.
  20. It's the intensity of the backlight of the panel.
  21. With no vehicular traffic of any kind, it was a waste of time for me.
  22. Please send my regards to Moneypenny and Q.
  23. My step daughter's (Thai) licensed moto rider doubled the cost of her ride home from school the other day - because he said he does it to everyone. The day a license actually means anything to the passenger and/or when I can get more than 1 in 20 car taxis to use a meter then I might consider giving a damn. Till then, not a chance. I don't use moto taxis myself but use lots of cars. Stopped using Grab a long time ago when their prices went through the roof. I now use Bolt and always tip the driver around 50% directly. Much cheaper than Grab and the driver also gets more direct cash because of the tip.
  24. I pretty much answered that in my reply ***** to userabcd up there. As a SCJ, she should have answered it in the eyes of the law. As a scientist.... using science. They are not necessarily the same answer and I have zero problem with that.
  25. I would usually agree. However in this instance, those elected officials in positions of power should have worded the question in a way so that it was clearly not a bait - which I would hope anyone with an ounce of intelligence could see that it was. Her composure and wisdom in the response she gave (or didn't give) pretty much told us the answer and also showed her depth of thought - again impressive, even for a SCJ.
