Sorry to break it to you, but British standards does not rule the world. This is Thailand, which is a South-East Asian country. Here they teach a general version of English that can be spoken and understood worldwide. What I find strange, is that so many foreigners have problem with their children not getting to know English at a proper level in school. Why the heck, do you guys not teach them yourselves?

No, it´s not. They are doing checks in tourist areas to protect the tourists as they do not want them dead in the news. Also, when doing checks in tourist areas like Patong, Pattaya and so on, the most common to catch are foreigners.

Yes, it is, even if you can´t see it. What it delivers are information about that you should not drink and drive as well as a message to keep foreigners safe when driving in Thailand. I know that thousands of Thais are driving drunk every day, but that is no excuse. Anyway, as a foreigner, you do not want either accident or fines in Thailand, so it also serves as a deterrent for some people that has not been drinking away their intelligence. That you do not get it can only be based on two things. Either you do not drink and drive, or you drive drunk and do not realize the danger and wrong in that before you get badly hurt.

How does that in any way ensure safety for an upcoming holiday? Everyone knows they are not to be seen where something happens later anyway. Funny, that police are getting paid to make clown walks instead of policing.

That the foreigner was at high speed has of course nothing to do with it. Just blame the Thais when you can.

Why would it cost 50-100 baht? Just an added function to the customs computer system and an e-mail or sms to the person need to pay.
