  1. I am by no stretch of the imagination an authority here... but I think only one book says to kill any who will not convert. I kind of doubt Gaza will get nuked... those on shore breezes would be deadly for Israel - not to mention Israel could not then occupy Gaza...
  2. I don't know, but I read yesterday that Poland also said they sending military transport to pull their people out.
  3. I don't get it... why wouldn't Thailand want to know where foreigners are in their country. The US would have ½ of their immigration issues if they kept tighter tabs of folks overstaying their tourist visas - or simply entering illegally. So let's look at Thailand for a minute: 1. 800K in the bank, or 65K per month income, or a combination of both. In the US, when I brought my wife into the country... I had to prove I could support her, and agree to do so for 10 years. Why shouldn't Thailand want to ensure the people it allows to live here can pay their own way? 2. 90 day check in... 3 minutes online - such a burden. (I think a pc works better than a telephone...) 3. Re-entry permit... nothing is free in any country... crossing the border uses resources that need to be paid by someone. Besides... all borders all over the world (except the US southern border) are profit centers. 4. Annual extension of permission to stay... I have heard the stories, so in some IO it can be a pain... In my own experience, having my TM-7,pictures, lease, passport, and proof of income together and organized - I was in and out of the IO in about 40 or 50 minutes last July.
  4. One the one hand... Macro Economics 101: if you want to slow sales, increase price. On the other hand... If it really will be used to "providing emergency medical health insurance cover and other benefits for 30 days from the point of entry"... Well that is at least somewhat more palatable...
  5. I didn't have to last July in Chiang Rai. Just the TM-7, lease, landlords id & tabien ban, bank book and statement ect.
  6. This is good information. Correct me if I am wrong, isn't a TM-30 also required upon returning home if you give your passport to a hotel in Thailand while traveling? I wonder if the OP has been doing any traveling within Thailand?
  7. 555 My mistake. The notification link brought me to his post. Thanks for letting me know.
  8. I have... everything from Shogun through Noble House... Granted it's been a long time, but I do not remember him describing "doing it" no top of a high-rise. 555
  9. I am very happy for you BritMan... are you trying to live on 60K per month? Me personally? I live in a muban - no soi dogs, no pool either 555. The park is about 15 minutes away, but people walk, run and bike in the muban... There are a couple pools to pick from within about 15 minutes. Anyway, I'm sorry if my post upset you. It was geared toward someone looking to come here on 60K per month. Cheers!
  10. No. At 60K per month he would only need 80K thb in the bank. 800,000 - (60,000*12) = 80,000. Of course he will want to be sure his monthly transfers into the Thai bank are marked FTT. I'm not sure how it works for the first entry. At 60K he should do okay just about anywhere there aren't a ton of farang. I'm up north and have a Thai friend in Phayao Province with a decent 2/1/1 for rent @ 1,000thb per month. I'm in Chiang Rai & know of 3 houses in my muban 3/2/1 for 7,000... If one really wanted, it is easy to spend 50K per month here... but why? Clearly, it depends on where and how one wants to live. If you want to be in BKK and want like Park Ave NYC... a boat load more that 60K will be needed... So... with a bit of thought and a bunch of research your friend should be fine.
  11. I'm not sure I understand Jipputum. I came in on a non-O visa 8 years ago. (I had a Thai wife if that makes a difference) After 90 days I extended for a year based on retirement. I have extended each year afterwards based on retirement. Are you referring to something else?
  12. A long time ago now, on a whim, I bought a scratch off for $1... won $60. I then bought 60 tickets... won $0.00. The moral of my story... invest the 10,000 for sure, but not in lottery tickets! 555
  13. The 560B will come in part from the new income taxes we will be paying. (I actually read that somewhere.)
  14. I'm curious... does Thailand have a standard deduction in lieu of itemized deductions? Or, do they consider the taxable income as that amount taxed in the source country?
  15. If he could park that 1 million AUD at 6%, the monthly interest would be 118K thb (less fees). Add in the pension and he is golden forever.
  16. I'm sorry about your friend. Condolences to his family and friends. When I was growing up, we dismounted horses... got off bikes and bicycles. And... no, I do not know how you feel. That said, I do hope you enjoy being a guest of the LOS, until you move on to a place that suits you better.
  17. Maybe shouldn't have done a lot of things... I think this is just the tip of the iceberg...
  18. I wonder what was more welcome... the Russians, or their tourist money?
  19. I've NEVER heard anyone say after a bender, "I am so glad I did that. I feel better. My live is better. All my problems are better or have evaporated." Never, not once. In your case, you will be sicker, short 100K and still have all the bull to deal with. A better idea? 1. call 090 269 9707 - leave a message if they can't pickup. 2. Go to https://www.aathailand.org/all-meetings?language=en We all have another dunk in us... we may not have another recovery. Good luck.
