  1. I practice my incantations on Saturdays, or very early on Sundays.
  2. I always buy my computer stuff from JIB. It depends upon the individual shop whether your get good service, poor service, or just barely adequate service. The guys at my JIB shop usually speak extremely limited English, and so be prepared to speak passa Thai, mostly. I have not shopped at Banana for about 10 years. I think that the Banana in the mall provides better communication skills. As to warranty, the JIB store in the mall here is really not good. But, the JIB shop at the IT center deals more with locals, and so they do not fool around when they know they need to provide the after-sales service and warranty they promised. In the mall, I guess they deal more with tourists who are here today and gone tomorrow. Still, I have never had JIB not live up to the warranties they offer. And, I really think that JIB has been improving in service-related aspects as the years have rolled by. If it were I, then I would go to the IT center here in CM, and then I would begin shopping around. I bought an ASUS laptop in 2016, but I bought it not from JIB but from a shop next to the JIB shop. ALL computer components, such as power supply, CPUs, and also UPS's, I buy from JIB. They seem to have the best/most-complete inventory of computer stuff.
  3. I would, in this case, which is rather sensitive, prefer not to. But, thank you for your suggestion.
  4. Definitely go with the most conservative approach...the repair....FIRST. If that fails, then go for replacement. A replacement is NEVER as good as human tissue. I know of that which I speak, in this case, having had femur removed and replaced with titanium and ceramic joint. Save what you can, whenever you can. In my case, the femur was completing shattered, and replacement was the only option. No pinning of the femur was practicable. Good Luck to you, for sure!
  5. I am operating under a new SOP Policy... Due to internet security risks involved with potential METADATA unintentionally added to digital images from phones, in general, I have stopped sending photos from my phone to anyone, anywhere. Thank you for your understanding.
  6. Thankfully, interested parties can find accurate information about the REAL Thailand, just be visiting TV. Especially.... My Topics.
  7. Clarification: I first noticed it this morning, and was suitably amazed. Amazing Thailand!
  8. It's EASY. But, you need to install the sensors package, and you need to ensure that sensors is working. I have used this to monitor CPU core temps, on all cores, for decades. It works!
  9. Hi Folks, While sitting out drinking my Chinese green tea this morning, I noticed a new plant in my garden, one which may be a weed, or it may be a marijuana plant. I am no botanist, so how can I tell for sure if the weed that is growing is weed, or not? It looks like the cannabis plant that I have seen in magazines, but who knows, and how to definitively know? I did not plant it. It just suddenly appeared this morning. The plant is still only about one-half meter high. Five leaves, at each level, etc. Should I try eating it to see if it is weed? Or, should I dry it and smoke it? How did it get here, anyway. And, anyway, I will continue to water it, at least until I can identify it. It's morning like this one, in Thailand, that really perk up my day; I must say. Best regards, Once more.... Gamma
  10. Yes. But, you will need to add the libraries, check dependencies, etc. Linux can do anything you want it to do, but you just need to customize it, easily, so that it provide the functionality. Even in 2013, everyone knew this: https://forums.opensuse.org/t/software-tools-for-monitor-cpu-temperature/91225/5 I have been using OPENSUSE (or Suse) since....about.... the year 2000. I would still be using it now, except that I must run Windows for teaching purposes, and because I no longer wish to be constantly vigilant to avoid stuff like ransomware. I love using LEAP from OpenSuse. It's just that I must use what my students use. I also do not wish to run Windows on VirtualBox, because it becomes a bit too laggy, and because the graphics, on VB, when I was using it 8 years ago, were not what I wished for. VB is OK for testing software, but not for running an OS 24/7 that you use throughout the day. Just my humble opinion, which, I must say, most people on TV think is not worth much, and they may be correct.
  11. One other justification for teaching the Chinese is this: a. Life in China, these days, is crappy, based on many metrics. b. Growing up, being a child in China, is tough, and extremely competitive. c. Life for all of us, these days, is crappy, just referring to the prospects for the human race in coming decades. d. Therefore, anything a good teacher can do to improve the chances for success of just a few students is a blessing. And, the provision of such blessing provides the teacher with a reason to live, when there are no longer many reasons one can think of. So, as Randy Newman sings: You give me reason to live, teaching gives me a reason to live. Teaching, itself, at least for me, is exciting, as well. I find it exciting to create "unique" strategies for ESL learning, such as vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension, and writing skills. Please note: I would say that the writing I do on TV is not entirely representative of my academic writing, by the way. However, YOU be the judge....
  12. "to be a teacher China" When teaching the students in China, or from China, it is always best to have an Ivy degree. Most Chinese students have plans to go to Harvard. Therefore, the teacher should have graduated from Harvard, OR, from a school like PENN. I tell my students that PENN is superior to Harvard. And, I know I am correct, culturally speaking, and in many other respects, as well. PENN is just better than Harvard in so many ways, especially for education, although my degree was not in Ed. I would suggest PENN to any of my Chinese students. And, obviously, I know how to get in.....! Note: Naturally, before even considering entering an IVY school like Harvard or Penn, one should have an IQ of at least 135 to 140, as a starting prerequisite. Why is this? Just check out the SAT scores of Harvard and Penn students, or MIT students, for that matter. If you do not have an IQ of about 140, minimum, then you are going to struggle all the way through. Therefore, be smart, first, then apply to Harvard or Penn. This is my best advice to you, and my students. Chinese students are smart, and hardworking, and they have grit. So, some of my students, a few, might get in to Penn, in a few years.
  13. You should choose some other field besides teaching English. The reason we teach is to benefit students, and not to live an exciting life. I teach, in my Golden Years, because I have a lot of experience in language acquisition and strategies for success. I have also helped students from age 10 to Gad School with ESL learning, to the tune of over 10 thousand hours. Teaching can provide a purpose in life when nothing much else does. This is good for the teacher, and very good for the student. To be a teacher, one must enjoy teaching, and to be an ESL teacher, one must enjoy both learning and teaching to those who are interested in language acquisition. Most teachers do not perform as well as they could UNLESS they, too, have learned a second or third language. Simply because they have no first-hand experience with learning a second language. They have no clue. They are idiots, trying to teach something that they have never experienced. IDIOTS!, I say! But, that is just my opinion.
  14. Re Intel, some like it hot. Question then: a. If you had to choose an ASUS mainboard for the Intel i5-13600K, what would it be IF... b. You had no intention to overclock c. You were trying to save money, where reasonable to do so d. You had no intention to play computer games The reason I ask is that I have yet to purchase a motherboard for the CPU. But, I must do so w/in the next week, or so. Therefore, Which ASUS board to buy? (Size of the mainboard is not a constraint in the choice.)
  15. Did she steal from you as pay-back for not returning her wais, consistently and repeatedly?
  16. Yes. Ransomware is bad news. I was hit with ransomware on a Linux distro. Wiped out or locked many files. I had backups. This is one reason I am using Windows. I just find it easier relying on Windows to update security software. I do not fear virus with Linux. But, ransomware is something else.
  17. Best way is to go to this link https://www.opensuse.org/ Add OPENSUSE Choose Dual Boot. Or, backup all your data. Then, format your entire SSD using one of the Linux file types of your choice, and set up partitions according to your needs. Install OPENSUSE Leap. Then, if you have a good enough CPU, and since you have enough RAM, add Virtual Box, and install any copy of Windows 7, 10, or whatever, on your VirtualBox. Then, use Win Office in the Virtual Box. OPENSUSE is very user friendly. Choose YaST as GUI
  18. Yes. And, there are several very good YT videos about how to do this, one good series is put out by some guy from Scotland, I think. He is very qualified.
  19. Yes. The LEDs I bought on Lazada were garbage that stopped working within one month. Or, the plastic bulbs feel off and dropped like hailstones on the floor. I bought 25 Panasonic fluorescent bulbs, and I know they will work for several years. No point in trying to rewire the garbage from Lazada. Just not worth the time. Better to just buy high quality bulbs LEDs from Philips or Panasonic or GE, or any big names. I learned my lesson, and I will never buy from the cheap suppliers shown on Lazada. The potential risk of re-wiring or replacing capacitors is just not worth any potential savings. For example, anytime you replace a battery in a UPS is also potentially lethal, if you make an error. Capacitors can hold a lot of charge, depending on the size. Although, this is not the case for LED lighting capacitors.
  20. Because: Poor sartorial choice, for one...
  21. Why is the Moroccan wearing that strange green hat with the screen attached?
  22. Yes. I do agree with this suggestion. I like the mall at the airport. Plenty to eat at very low cost. This mall is quite relaxed, too, and much better than the new mall (new about 5 years ago, at Festival.) No traffic worries. I also enjoy wandering around the Tops supermarket looking at the retail foods for sale. This place is fairly well-air-conditioned. There is also a nice hotel within walking distance from the mall. Good choice if CMU is not an option.
  23. Two weeks is not enough. I left my wife/wives about 43 years ago. Best decisions I ever made. Leaving for two weeks is pointless....because...then... You must worry about your return.
  24. This is an EXCELLENT Topic. This question is one that all of us think about, from time to time. However, it might be best to not become overly preoccupied with worry about it. As for me, if I am put behind barbed wire by the Chi-Com Bandits, then... I will make a run for the wire, and attempt to climb it, until.... I am shot down by machinegun, like the dog that I am. (I meant, the running-dog that I am.)
  25. a. So far, no nuclear exchange of more than 25 big bombs. b. Therefore, no nuclear winter. c. What had you expected?
