It was clearly stated in GWTW that Scarlett was NOT a reader. This is why Ashley wouldn't have anything to do with her. Do you remember THAT? Ashley, on the other hand, was a BIG TIME reader....Big Time! I do not associate with those who do not read, and read often, and read in depth, and read books which are not trash, fit for White Trash. You recall how, in GWTW...most of the big landholder could not stand the white-trash family who owned only 3-acres of land down by the river. They wanted to buy them out at any price, and get rid of them. This turned out to be impossible as the white-trash would not sell their cotton-land. If they had, then it might have ruined part of the story. As for MAGA, I think you are on a different Topic, and might do well to stick to the 100s of Topics hashing and rehashing the MAGA themes....

Pitbull mauls monk to death in gruesome Nonthaburi temple attack
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
In Thailand, with nonexistent or unknown dog laws, or unenforced dog laws, NOBODY should have a dog larger than a Chihuahua, and should only be permitted to have a Chihuahua after the vocal chords had been removed. Thailand would be a much better place for humans if most dogs were removed from Thailand (not removed but neutered at birth). If this were done, then the problem would take care of itself if importation of dogs was also banned. -
Pitbull mauls monk to death in gruesome Nonthaburi temple attack
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Yes. I was about to say that monks need cars to carry out temple business and perform other duties. Also, one can easily see that this monk has a bed without AC in a very small area where he works on an old desktop computer. Therefore, none of what he is using to sleep or work could in any way be considered luxuries. And so, I was surprised, as well, by the comments about "car ownership", which may have not actually been his car. Most monks I know do not drive. And they are the smart ones, too. -
Twice-per-second Bleeping Bird: What's it good for?
GammaGlobulin replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I confirmed that one of the videos shows a bird which does sound identical to the Bleeping Bird, yes. (Two bleeps per second, unavailingly, although I know not if it also might make other sounds.) This bird has now been hanging around here since about one week prior to the posting of this Topic. This bird can now be heard but not seen. I hope it stays since it reminds me very much of this time of year in CM, Thailand. However, I DO have a few other questions concerning the YOUNG of this bird....and ESPECIALLY why the young bleeping birds do not bleep more rapidly than the rate-of-bleeping we hear from the adult bird. So then, how can we hear the vocalizations of Bleeping chicks? faster or slower? higher pitch? And, how much longer will they remain here? Where do they go when they leave? -
Dear Folks, Can you recall your first reading of Gone With The Wind? And, can you recall where and when you read it….sort of like when you first received the news of JFK’s tragedy? I am not saying that Gone WIth The Wind (GWTW) is that much of a tragedy, and it might even be more of a comedy, these days. Sure, it was a tragedy when Tara burned to the ground, or did it? I forget. And since I forget, what I am doing is listening to GWTW on tape, just so I can get my facts straight about things like the plot, for example. Absolutely, GWTW is one of the greatest books ever written, with umpteen copies sold, and even more borrowed from libraries around the United States. And, do you think there will be a remake of the famous GWTW film? Who will play Scarlet, I do wonder. Certainly nobody could play Scarlet as well as Vivien Leigh, IMHO. She’s British, you know. FYI: I found a wonderful audiobook recording read by, I think, Linda Stephens. She does all the characters so well, even the slaves. This particular copy of the audio recordings is cheap at half the price. If one had read GWTW in one sitting, as I did, back in 1964, then listening to the audio version in 2024 would be twice the thrill. I just wish that the Old South still survived, meaning not ALL of it, but the ROMANCE of it!!!!!! Anyone else here think this book is the greatest novel written during the past 100 years? I still love Scarlet, just as much as I ever did. Love this book! Best regards, Gamma (Rhett) Globulin Note: Love her, Simply Love her, to bits….!

Banged up: Thai prison nightmare exposed by British tourist
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes. Agree. He is using poetic license to create heightened suspense. If the guy had been intending to leave, he would have been all packed and ready to go, rather than hiding in a public toilet where he alleges that he was beat up, and received what he suspected was a concussion to the brain. Maybe the facts are not altogether what has been reported, simply because the actual facts of the case are not yet known. Also, the guy should state his full name! -

Thailand braces for cold weather and possible thunderstorms
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Someday, maybe, the increasing instability in the polar jet stream may bring us some REALLY cold days. When they say really cold here, then I normally think of some place like Mongolia, or Harbin, China, maybe minus 50-degrees C, or something. If this ever happens during our Cool Season in Thailand, then how might we survive? Another thing I often worry about: With these increasingly unstable Polar Vortices, it may someday be possible that we will up to a meter of snow in Chiang Mai. And then..... Who will shovel the snow???? As far as I know, Thailand shops do not sell proper snow shovels. -
Banged up: Thai prison nightmare exposed by British tourist

Does anyone know what REALLY happened? For example, the circumstances of his overstay, and... How long was the overstay? Was he intending to leave, or just hoping to stay even longer on his overstay? What other offenses, if any, had he committed? How long had he been in Thailand? Did he have sufficient funds? So many questions, and so little time to answer them..... Wish we knew more. That fat guy on the floor: How does he fit into the story? And, as fat as he appears to be, how could he fit into almost ANYTHING???? -
Chinese penis size matters: Cheeky joke blows up into beach brawl

Never a truer word spoken. Size measurements must be taken under controlled conditions if they are to have any validity. -
Chinese penis size matters: Cheeky joke blows up into beach brawl

Due to evolutionary advantage, colder climes, over time, promote shorter ones. Same with noses. -

Done after .... a. Flagellation b. Flatulence c. Happening simultaneously. This is the perfect moment to take the measurements. -
Chinese penis size matters: Cheeky joke blows up into beach brawl

This incident would never have happened if only all beaches in Pattaya were zoned as NUDE beaches. Also, I know what the young man said, in Chinese: "Gen Ni You Shenmo Guanxi." This is the standard retort. Meaning....what business is it of yours. -
Very interesting. Good info. Not sure how this works though, and the cost, and the time to receive. I will need to contact the international department of BKK Bank in Thailand...maybe.... Seems like a very good solution, however. Glad I opened two BKK accounts in Thailand. Getting tired of KBank, and new changes there (maybe just in my own mind, however).

The Red-Chinese Dragon has not changed its spots. The Red Chinese have not changed their plans for world domination. The question might be.. Will China (the government) implode before it destroys the world. There is no point in adding any unnecessary economic fuel to their fire. This is war we are now engaged in!

Heavy rain warning in Thailand as temperatures drop
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If this cold weather will please persist until the End of May, then I can save about.... Bt.2000.00 per month, or a total cost savings of ... Approximately: Bt.10,000.00 Still, although the hot season is preferable to me, and something which cannot be entirely avoided, cool weather is good for working outdoors. We have experienced warmer weather during the past decade. And, near-record-breaking low temperatures in Northern Thailand are already just a thing of the past, a distant memory already, so to speak. Time to donate heavier winter clothing, cluttering up the closet, if one has not already done so. Such charity is often seen here in Thailand as just one more instance of Making Merit. -
Phuket netizens slam half-naked foreign man on red baht bus
GammaGlobulin replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I find it incredible that such blatant disregard for accepted mores in Thailand is allowed to go unpunished. We need to find this Farang before he commits even more serious offenses. -
Has Elon Musk become an existential threat to humanity?
GammaGlobulin replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Elon's approach to China is what seems most worrisome. This is, perhaps, just a self-serving approach which Elon has taken, presumably to protect his business interests in Red China. But, is it best for the world? Likely....not. Taiwan cannot accept Elon's view of Red China, and neither can any thinking individual who respects freedom and rule of law.
