  1. This is the best, serious, solution. Pack in cardboard cartons. Tape up well, and bind well with twine. Then, take to bus depot and place in the lower luggage compartment, after buying ticket for someone who wishes a free trip. Or, just pay the bus company to haul the boxes to the correct destination. Very cheap. No loss. No damage.
  2. Can any new UK law be made retroactive? The UK is now in a very sorry state, some say. The UK is now just about totally unrecognizable to someone my age. Didn't you guys see this coming? If you did, then why did you let this happen???? Just wondering.
  3. Must have been a sawed-off shotgun which are illegal in the USA. Also, best to keep the safety ON, when not prepared to shoot something. Was this shotgun loaded with Bird Shot?
  4. Such a pity. And, now, who is the bull in the china shop?
  5. Thanks. Finally learned something worth knowing here. Thank you.
  6. One seldom hears such a royal roasting of one US president for the previous US president, just booted out of office. This address by Trump is a one-of-a-kind Royal Roasting for the old man, Biden. Every other minute of his speach, Trump refers to Biden as a complete and utter fool, in so many good ways. Seldom is heard, such encouraging words? True? False? Just wondering.... Trump, as his nature, never suffers fools lightly. Go Trump Go? Why not.... When Biden left the WH, the smell of the nursing home left with him? Seems so. Right? A breath of fresh air? No? At the very least, the worm has turned..... And, who was the worm, in this case? Just wondering.
  7. Sure, but your comment is missing one crucial piece of data: If we could see Andromeda where it is now... Then... What might be its luminosity? Only then might we know what a sight it would be.
  8. So then... Where is Negroponte when we need him most?
  9. You neglected to mention you were using solar panels. Now, your Bt.300 per month makes more sense. And, very logical.
  10. These panels, as you suggest, would have excellent heat insulating properties.... However, for sound-insulation, something of higher density seems more logical, such as 3/4-inch plywood. Just my guess. As you say, these panels would be easier to apply than installing a plywood covering...maybe. Something to consider, these panels, for energy savings on windows for a room, when one cares not about seeing outside...as happens to be my case, at the moment. Maybe use both plywood and the panels....if they are designed to be used on the outside of an exterior surface.
  11. Do you "borrow" electric power from your neighbor's line, or something? Or, do you not use a water heater or a kettle for tea? Maybe you use a human-powered generator to keep your fridge going?
  12. My Justification for Using Highly Reflective Paint: I figure, I can save at least Bt.500.00 per month in lower energy costs relating to AC cooling cost reduction. Probably about Bt.6000.00 per year, by my conservative estimate. I just need to choose the correct coating for the plywood shutters I am fabricating. Of course, the true savings will depend upon the heat differential between the outside temperature and the indoor temperature. If I maintain the Hot Season temp, inside my bedroom, at 19-degrees C, as is normal.... Then, my energy savings will be more. Obviously. I figure, since we are not on the equator, and since the Sun is not always at it's zenith, then the average radiation hitting my plywood shutters should be about 900 watts per square meter, give or take. Still, very worth the effort.....for sure. Those reading my words...should... Take heed, if they want to save a few baht.
  13. Then... Why did you leave???? I probably might not have left, if I were in Sydney.
  14. I think you are correct. I need to buy next week. I found this TOA product...for coating plywood which I intend using to cover windows as permanent "shutters" to block out all light and radiant heat from the Sun. But, it looks like this tub is about 4 kilograms. Too big. Might this be the best product for reflecting heat radiation, when applied to something like thick plywood? It looks good, as well, for avoiding moisture absorption into the plywood for outdoor use. Or, would this be better, the Roadline, which you mentioned? Need the best product for keeping room cooler, a room which is exposed to direct sun for half of the day. This will reduce energy expenditure substantially. Still, if this Roadline Paint is used, one worries that it might "sparkle" at night, like those hypnotic highway lines. This is for my bedroom which I need to seal off before the Smoking Season. So, something hypnotic might be good, unless it affects the neighbors. Were you joking about using highway paint for the walls of my house? Or, is this actually a good choice? Note: What are the risks of White Line Fever if used in my bedroom?
  15. Terrible. Repeat....TERRIBLE. Agree. That's one video I will NOT be watching. Would not be able to UNSEE it..... Also, The dog was named Lucky? So unlucky, in fact. 2 months jail time is NOT enough.
  16. Another One Laptop Per Child? Hope the plan is well thought out.
  17. Dear Folks, Do you, also, find Leavitt a bit unsettling. She came on at her first press briefing asking: "How are we doing?" Sounded to me like a nurse speaking to a patient in the ICU. Does she lack the humility, due to lack of experience being alive among the living with real people, that this job might require? The best word one might come up with to describe her placement in her present position, and her, might be...OUTLANDISH. Something is off-key, maybe. Will she be completely tone-deaf, just due to her lack of time on Earth? In addition to the word, outlandish, what about the phrase "out of touch with reality"? Who chose her for this position? Is she is a child, playing with grownups.... How much longer can this charade last, do you imagine, before reality sets in, and we see her for what she is, just meaning her missing years? Something seems tinny and unreal. Maybe it is she. Just wondering if anyone else might get the same vibes.... Regards, Gamma
  18. Dear Folks, Decades ago, I spent 18 months, just outside of Shanghai, at TongJi University, a great school, one known for IT, at that early time. Also, known for the cats at the local dormitories where many lived with the profs. The smell of hundreds of catboxes in those dorms was incredible, and filled the Night Air. TongJi, at the time, had very little outdoor lighting, and students navigated at night, as the blind, with unfailing accuracy of bats, in almost total darkness around the campus. Those were the days when we still had the Night Sky. These days, the Night Sky is a thing of the past, at least within 100-miles of any small city. Even in the countryside, these days, almost every house adds light bulbs, a few per year. Every year, new bulbs are added, without fail, for no logical reason, blocking out the stars, and even the moon. Why? Most likely, even countryfolk soon habituate to any given level of nighttime artificial brightness, and foolishly pay to continually add more electric bulbs in some misbegotten crusade to block out the night. Do they ever think that, by their foolishness, their children grow up denied ever seeing the stars and the majesty of the heavens? I am not joking now. I have had it with all this artificial daylight at night. And I am moving to the Gobi desert, just as soon as I have worked out the logistics, and maybe also have found some way to get sufficient financial support from GoFundMe, but only just enough to pay for my airfare and tents. I am not asking for much. I am not joking about this. Because, I care about the night sky, and the loss of same. Here where I am living, it’s impossible to see as many stars as I once saw when I was young, even not too far outside a major city. The problem might be that outdoor electric lighting is now just too cheap. 50 years ago, most families in Taiwan could afford only a few dim electric light bulbs. Now, they can easily buy enough lighting to light up any major football stadium. How do the local birds sleep at night??? But, that is another Topic. Here, I prefer to consider the psychological impact of neverending daytime on the human psyche. Don’t parents care??? What is wrong with them, anyway, that they do not make a fuss about this important issue which affects their children??? Nobody seems to care, anymore, about the important and crucial contribution of the Natural Environment so fundamentally important for allowing children to mature to adulthood in at least a semi-unwarped way. If you don’t know what I am referring to, then please just consult Piaget. Where do you think all this modern aberrant human behavior originates? Obviously, it stems from the fact that humans are now forcibly separated from the Night Sky, for years on end, unless…maybe…once in a Blue Moon, they happen to be on a boat far out to sea, or travel far into the desert. As I say, I am not joking this time. I really do plan to find a place on Earth where I can see the Night Sky, once per day. And, the Gobi is a great place for this. I have a dynamite Japanese friend who told me that the Gobi was a life changing event. Now, I plan to act on what my friend shared with me. I will move to The Gobi, and stay there, if only I can solve a few sticky wickets such as dental cleaning, and other health checkups, when needed. According to my friend, the Gobi provides a spiritual experience that one just cannot find elsewhere. I believe it. I will depart, just as soon as I can muster the funds. Anyone here is welcome to join me, provided you are like minded. Here is what I hope to find in the Gobi, at night: (Thank you, Ira.) Of course, I have already considered the possibility of a return to the good old US of A, to search for a desert there. But, even there, one might find too many lights at night from American cars and houses, and too many aircraft flying overhead, with blinking navigation lights. Not good. The Gobi is not, so far, quite this light-polluted, so said my friend. This is a serious post, and not a joke. I miss the skies of my youth. And, it’s never too late. No matter how old we might seem to others. Best regards, Gamma Note: Come with me, why don’t you? Why DON’T you??? Note2: Plenty of sand in the Gobi. Therefore, we might even be able to grind our own primary mirrors from local resources. Stranger things have happened in the Gobi. Are you game? Do you speak fluent Chinese? This might be a plus.
  19. Ant spray? But those are lizards! Why not use lizard spray, instead? Have you asked your wife?
  20. You cannot help but know far more about noodles than Trump knows about Science. This is totally true. Trump, for all his other accomplishments, has very little understanding of science, either Natural Sciences or Social Sciences. Although, he might know something about unnatural science....for even .... Weird Science..... (Such a classic!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  21. CO2. No living creature, such as one that breathes oxygen, can hang on the ceiling for long, in the face of high-concentrations of CO2 gas. Just be careful when using CO2...that you...too.... Don't breathe in too much. Otherwise, it might be curtains. Note: CO2 is heavier than air (mostly nitrogen 78-percent, and a bit of oxygen 21-percent)...and so...how to get the CO2 to stay up in the rafters, might be difficult. If, for example, the lizard were inhabiting your basement, than use of CO2 might be far easier.
  22. Dear Drummer Boys….. Can anyone tell me how Gene moved so fast? What made him so SPEEDY, for example. Also, do you recall where and when you first heard this guy on the drums? Was it SING, SING, SING? Probably so. I first heard Krupa play when I listened to him on FM Radio, maybe when I was about 12. Unforgettable. Has anyone here actually MET Krupa, and what was he really like? Was he totally obsessed with his drumming, for example? Did he drum his fingers on the dinner table, when he was young, and go to bed scolded by his mother for doing so? Just so much to wonder about. Also, in your opinion, what are Krupa’s TOP 10 recordings? By the way, you might wonder what is the inspiration for this second glorious Topic of the evening: Easy to answer, really…. I have been sitting here listening to the TERRIBLE drumming coming from small-sick bands around my house, probably much the same sick and too-intrusive drumming that is now happening throughout the country, at this time of year, when unschooled drummers use HIGH-POWERed amplification to advertise their questionable drumming talents. It might be OK if they were actually able to drum better than drummer boys in some out-of-sync army. Anyway, back to the questions of the Topic: a. What made Kroupa’s moves so fast? b. What were his Top-10 drumming performances…OTHER than…Sing, Sing, Singha!, one which almost everybody has already heard. Best regards, And keep on drumming, but, just…. Not near my house…. Please! Gamma Note: Don’t you just LOVE Gene’s facial expressions….He is really feeling it…..! ((Take…THAT….Ginger….!!!!))
  23. Did you mean Caribou Beer? I recall drinking this while on fishing excursions up in Timmins, Ontario. They would helicopter it in, by the pallet-load. Not a human in sight, for months, way back then, and the only access was either portaging from lake to lake, or by helicopter. Those were the days, and the Canadian Caribou beer was rather good. https://northernontario.travel/sites/default/files/2023-04/SunsetCountry.jpg One could, back in the day, leave the road in Ontario, and never see another human soul for months. Just me, the fish, and Caribou beer. Maybe, Singha is the next best thing, now that one is in Thailand. Tiny bubbles. Pristine lakes. And, occasionally, the haunting call of a far-off loon. Magnificent.... Really.
