  1. i love the logic that guys like this don't twig that the bus company will know who was driving. running away is a waste of time and effort.
  2. doesn't matter which country you're in, if you make a potential target of yourself someone will take advantage. mate came to thailand, went to an atm and put his bank card in his back pocket. it was stolen. i asked him would he do that back home? his answer 'no'.
  3. no sensible person would make a huge stink in immigration as the chances that you would get your way just because you threw your toys out of the pram are extremely slim.
  4. who knows...? 'journalists' here just write or copy and paste stuff without checking, reading, or attempting to add any benefit.
  5. agree, airline ticket prices contain all sorts of taxes and landing fees, have these ever stopped me visiting a country? absolutely not. has anyone here not visited a country because of its taxation policy?
  6. throwing water just isn't fun unless you include motor vehicles or motorcycles. endangering other people's lives and safety just makes the whole experience even more exciting.
  7. it screams; come on suckers, give me your personal details
  8. loads of places sell second hand/reconditioned phones, just keep your eyes open
  9. yea, good point, could you imagine such a story appearing anywhere in the media in your home country? is it news? are people on this site really interested? really, who cares?!
  10. agree, he has a point. most countries in the world have guns, but don't have similar problems. it's the people buying/owning/using the guns and the authorities, who allow pretty much anyone to buy and own a gun, that are the problem. we think things are pretty crazy in thailand sometimes, but they are not a patch on the usa, it's a scarily mad country, with some people who really should learn to control their temper.
  11. agree. who writes this stuff? i'd be happy to offer my services, at a price of course.
  12. polite request; could you stop referring to 'seven deadly days', there is no statistical evidence that road traffic accidents, injuries or deaths are in greater during songkran than at any other time of the year.
  13. strange so many boats should be at sea in such conditions. was the weather reporting accurate? did they decide to ignore the weather forecast? hope all will be ok.
  14. there's non so blind as those who don't want to see
  15. agree, i've never met anyone who came to thailand specifically for songkran, i do, however, know many expats and locals that leave thailand over the songkran holiday. those figures don't get published... ????
  16. it sounds like the problems with your wife come from two sources, which may be connected; A. expectations. differing expectations and lack of understanding/appreciation/acceptance of the other's expectations, B. lack of effective communication. with seeming limited ability in each other's language, clear and effective communication must be difficult/impossible; leading to ineffective problem resolution, and contributing to point A - catch 22? if you're genuinely happy with the situation and your life, fine, but if you're not, get out.
  17. yup, 62 to 64, the age at which fully paid up citizens can claim the state pension
  18. the government gateway site is extremely good, easy to use to check pension, get passport, driving license, covid vaccination, and so on. i absolutely understand that they have to be strict when people first sign up, but it's very much worth jumping through the hoops as the benefits are great. i recommend every uk citizen sign up so you're ready to go when needed. i have dealings with the DWP every year and find them professional and efficient.
  19. yes, easy calculation anyone can do, the figures during songkran are similar to the annual figures, occasionally going down... the media, and this site, always get on the 'seven deadly days' bandwagon that statisticaly doesn't exist.
  20. do a netflix documentary, write a book, go on chat shows all to complain about, invade the privacy of, and attack your family and friends. i'd suggest the first step is getting a new therapist because any fool can see this is not the way to reconciliation and achieving mental wellness...
  21. the uk is extremely civilised, IMO anyone relying on the state pension is mad... pretty much all my friends managed to retire/semi-retire between 55 - 60, they either have excellent work pensions or private pension pots, all it takes is a little forward planning. when the state pension kick in it will be a little cream on the cake.
  22. 75% of people are wise and probably better off not paying tax. you can hardly blame thai people, i would guess the tax they paid is unlikely to be spent on education, health or social security and much more likely to 'disappear'...
