  1. If you cut your booze and don't pay for your bang, you'll easily live on a lot less.
  2. Love going to Krung Thep ... also love leaving and coming back home, surfside. Has it's perks ...
  3. Actually you post had nothing to do with evs, (never mentioned) while replying to the anti china guy on my ignore list. Yours was about people's choices and doubting manufactures product claims. The usual off topic stuff since neither of you have any interest in evs. BYE BYE
  4. Easy ... Because I know how much she'll be driving it and how long it should last. That's not rocket science. 2+2 still equals 4.
  5. Chance are the average Somchai household has 3 generations living there, don't drink 5 large beers in an overpriced tourist / expat bar every night, or need a happy massage every few days, or daily on the cheap. Actually same as most expats, living thrifty, except for the multi generation thingy. But then the thread wouldn't be interesting. Getting drunk in a bar every night with daily happy massage ... yea, that's believable.
  6. 2 bedroom townhouse, and as stated, I abuse the AC, and poorly constructed/insulted building. Not located at 'usual' tourist destination or expensive metro area. Solar will be completely self sufficient. Providing more than needed monthly. Use about 700 PEA units a month now, and solar will provide more than that. 67 yrs old, 68 in Dec. Have no health insurance, never needed, never wanted. Have an oops fund, JIC, and some would say that was financed, by never paying for silly health insurance. Actually much less than paying for health insurance over 50 yrs, and silly priced now, with risk of being dropped if actually needing. So I can't be bothered.
  7. NEWS FLASH ... it's only going to get hotter. It's what the planet does, and has been doing forever. OK, all of 1 or 2C over the next 100-200 yrs ???? = a big nothing. So deal with it, if you think you need to. Turn AC on, if in warm area, or move to, if in cold area. Options abound.
  8. Y'all purchase what makes you happy. I've been very satisfied with my 'thrifty' car purchases, and they've served me well. Got a good resale price on all of them. Toyota, Mazda, MG (SAIC) ... all excellent manufacturers with good reputations, and fine products. Choose wisely and you'll have no regrets. Topic is 'EVs in TH' ... moving on ... ????
  9. Didn't buy the house for me, though will enjoy it. She's put up with me for 16+ yrs, and 20+ yrs younger, so she'll benefit being rent free. She definitely deserves to be taken care of, as I promised I would. Don't need the EV car either, but will last her 20+ yrs, at minimal operating cost. So wife & daughter are set for about 20-40 yrs if needed. On a retirement visa, monthly deposit, so finances isn't an issue. But if wanting to live on the cheap, very possible, whether owning or renting. Been fortunate, and could walk away from it all tomorrow, and wouldn't bother me, as long as the dog came with me.???? Or we could sell for 2 mill easily. She's pretty darn good at investing. She sold 1st house for 50% profit, and 2nd house for 150% profit, which has financed this house & EV, arriving later this year.
  10. Believe what you want, but they are actual numbers. Actually, house & car didn't cost me anything ... sort of. Simply using the profits of the first 2 house I bought and lived in here (rent free), the past 17 years. I actually still have my original savings from first arriving here. Actually more from investing after arriving. First didn't cost millions, not even 1 million, and only $20k/ 800k THB at the time. Present house (120 m²) cost 1.521 mill, and includes the solar system. 76k for land 1.1 mill for house 345k for solar Choices make all the difference in smile factor. If you're 50+ yrs old, on a retirement visa, and can't rustle up 1 mill for a house purchase, and renting is going to strain your monthly budget, then you probably shouldn't be here at all. What did you do for 30 yrs living elsewhere ... rent, bars, hookers ... oh well. Live with your choices, don't complain about them. Plenty of folks here, screwed royally in divorce before arriving, but living quite happily on less. Drunk & massage everyday ... nuff said.
  11. If not doing a whole lot of highway kms, budget to buy & operate, Suzuki Celerio, at 328k MT/408K AT. Perfect for daily commute. Anything else is about 200k more, entry level Toyota, Mazda, Honda.
  12. Moving into house (owned), so 6k in rent gone Going solar, so another 3500 gone Don't need the car (theoretically) but at leas 2k in petrol. If actually got rid of the car, another 1000-1500 for insurance/tax. About 13k of now mandatory bills, eliminated. When EV (car) arrives, then no petrol or expensive maintenance. Have e-motorcycle now, cost near nothing to operate, and realistically, all that is needed. Next month, all we have to do is feed ourselves. If in home, then we can easily do that on 10k a month. Renting townhouse now, at 6k a month, if no dog, same townhouse is only 3500 a month, anyone could do rent/utilities for 5 k a month. I abuse the AC, so 3k+ a month for PEA is a bit silly for many. No need to live that inexpensively, but it's very possible, if no health issues. Would easily leave 20-30k a month for vices, if wanting on a 50k budget.
  13. Thank you ... ... next time, don't take one part out of context. Use the whole statement: "That and the economy, many skeptical or ignorant of the practicality of owning (forum shows that). Availability to charge at home, or even the need for a new car, after 2 years of stagnant economic growth. More than a few, waiting to see what's around the corner, and waiting for newer tech & batteries to hit mass production." With statements from members thinking the battery is dead after the warranty, and not enough charging stations ... then yes, many are skeptical & ignorant of the practicality of owning. Some even think EVs are more expensive, and whole battery packs have to be replaced. The MG EP is about the same price as 2 of the most popular cars sold in Thailand. And yet cost 100s of thousands of baht less to operate over the 8 yr warranty period. I'd say their ignorance shines.
  14. Please tell us where that OZ pension provides such a lifestyle. Seems anyone wanting to live that lifestyle and can't, made a few wrong choices on their way to retirement.
  15. Managed by replica business owners, with food prepared by replica chefs, that fail miserably.
  16. Chinese brand now (thankfully), and also made in Thailand ... ???? MG Motor UK Limited (MG Motor) is simply a subsidiary of SAIC, for distribution purposes, I think.
  17. Fasa Exxel pressure washer, still going strong after 15yrs. Looks something like this. 2 wands, 1 for car, 1 for stripping what ever.
  18. I ordered on 7th, shipped on 9th, arrived on 11th, Phuket to Prachuap Khiri Khan. I'd add another day for Patts delivery.
  19. Even though a single male shouldn't be here on 50k a month, (visa requires 65k), it is easy to live quite comfy on that amount, with those extra vices. Maybe not a happy massage everyday, depending what that cost, as I haven't a clue. No reason to pay more than 10k a month for housing & utilities, along with 10k a month for feeding yourself. Leaves 30k a month for vices. If that's not enough, you got a few issues. IMHO The wife & I do it on less than 30k a month, and next month, that will be cut in half, as we'll eliminate rent, electric & petrol for transport if wanting.
  20. Owning a car, is a huge expense, renting even worse. Do you really need, as it appears you can't really afford one at this point.
  21. Too cool ... liking the bike path. I would definitely visit, as the ferry is a turn off, and Samui isn't worth the hassle. But if I could drive over ... that works.
  22. The 2nd Amendment works ... 2 thoughts go with the link below about Mass Shootings: If more people legally carried guns, less people would be killed in MS. If nobody legally carried guns, more people would have been killed in MS. https://www.newsweek.com/indianapolis-just-latest-time-good-guy-gun-stopped-mass-shooting-opinion-1725737
  23. Wow ... you seriously just said that. Knocking on 8 billion people on the planet, and there's nothing we can do. Have less children Drive less, walk and or bike more Use less electric, especially if produced from oil & coal. EVs, scooter, ebike, motorcycle, car/truck Solar - small system, large system ... ANY system Holiday locally, drive that EV to where ever. Nothing we can do. 8 billion people, and nothing we can do. Mind boggling. First thing to do, is stop telling everyone about climate change, and do something... ... anything to slow it down. If you care, or just keep talking, that's helping a lot. International cooperation ... putting your faith in govts ... and I thought you were intelligent at times. There goes that thought. So we'll just sit and wait for guidance from the folks, that basically are creating this mess. International cooperation & govts ... you apparently haven't been paying attention. As those people don't care, never did, never will. People waiting for someone else to do something, is why things are the way they are. What ever happen to thinking and doing by and for yourself. This isn't rocket science. Think you both made it to my ignore list ... Have a nice night ... BYE BYE
  24. Nice deflection. Still flying international ? Still driving that fossil fuel car ? Have you gone or plan on going solar ? Instead of electric from oil, coal. Either part of the solution ... or the problem. You decide.
