  1. I disagree with much of the GI, and agree with many of the thoughts expressed here: https://www.nature.com/articles/d42473-022-00018-z#:~:text=The GI%2C with its narrow, not consider chronic disease risk.
  2. Yes & no. Free to express yourself, though it may cost*** you, but won't be jailed for it, as you might here in TH. Free to earn as much income as you can, and still the Land of Opportunity, for those that take advantage and actually do something to better their finances. Is harder everyday if abiding by all the rules & regulations. Great country to be born in, and retire from, though not that good to live out your retirement in. *** expressing displeasure with any administration to the WH ... 'WILL' get you audited by the IRS. My experience anyway ... YMMV
  3. Also snapped on Phuket ... what's not to love
  4. Well said, hmm ... may have to take you off my ignore list, and unless quoted, wouldn't have seen this. Agree completely with above. Curious how you got on my list now????: ... anti TH ... anti CH ... anti USA ... anti EVs
  5. Only 3 come to mind for myself: ... almost -0- RE Tax ... affordable, accessible healthcare ... close to friendly China Proximity to China making all things inexpensive, especially high ticket electronics: ... EVs ... Solar system components Added plus, ganga able to be enjoyed at your leisure without fear of fine or jail, for 'responsible' adults. Easy long stay visa, IMHO which I really have nothing else to compare to. Can own condo without any length of stay requirement. Since some are stating negatives, only 2 for me; ... air and sea pollution
  6. If wanting, needing fast chargers. MGs for instance will only accept about 76kWh. along with most battery packs in the MGs are 50.3 kWh (46.3 usable), so shouldn't really need much more than 30-45 mins to top back up. Charging from 80-100% slows down a bit as cell are balanced. Why they state in promo 30-80% in about 30 mins, reads better than 50-100, as taking a bit longer. 30ish % to 100% takes about 45 mins, and a welcomed rest stop after 3 hrs on Thai roads.
  7. TA is IMHO, the worst site for travel or any advise. I don't even bother using as a cross reference any more, for any input. I stick with Gmap & Thai sites, with lots of photos for 'customers/visitors'. Rarely disappointed.
  8. If you've never worked in or consistently visited some kitchens or restaurants. trust me, you'd avoid dining out. Price and star ratings, in my experience of delivering to, the finer, higher rated restaurants were worse. I worked for 1 vendor that supplied linen service, and another supplying flowers, aside from working in, and all 3 experiences were eye opening. The 2 family bakeries I worked at, were actually quite good, and would expect them to not be. Why we rarely dine out, and cook at home from scratch, using minimal processed food.
  9. No, why would it. It's holding steady, considering the west's attempt to destroy it, which as with everything else, has failed miserably. Holding fine against the THB & CNY on a 5 yr chart, and even against the USD.
  10. This guy talked me into this style of shaver, though didn't care for the need to replace heads so often. Although didn't expect the Durablade to last 5 years either, and they last about 1 year, maybe. As I posted earlier, bought one here on LAZ, died, but before that, ordered more & heads from USA. Don't know if he did any updates since 4 yrs since have, and not ready to change.
  11. I believe same ones BritMan2 suggested, from Makro:
  12. BS ... where do you people come up with this krap. Thais mourn just as much as everyone else, from loss of loved one, child, friend. People are the same worldwide, losses are grieved, especially sudden, younger, unexpected more so of course. To lose a child, I can't imagine and hope I never find out. A wife, husband, partner, best friend you've loved for years, that's traumatic. Older folks on borrowed time or diagnosed terminal, a bit easy to deal with.
  13. Very firs thing that needs to be done, is buyer get approved for a mortgage for sale price. The rest is normal processing in any sale. That mortgage will pay off wife's mortgage, which will release chanote/house to be transferred. When we sold last house, nobody (3) applying for a mortgage could get qualified for 1 reason or another. So when they signed contract, we asked for small deposit (non refundable) to take off market, with 3 month window to get approved for mortgage. When buyers came to look at house, and stated, 'yea, we want, have to get a mortgage' ... I just laughed. Both houses we sold were to cash buyers.
  14. Ignorant tourist doing no research prior to visit... ... nuff said 3rd world tourist traps ... where's the surprise.
  15. Depends when you 'attended' the funeral. Body held at house for 3 days, if possible, then off to bbq, and would thing those going to get emotional, already did so prior to the bbq. Not much difference than the USA, having an emotional viewing, day/night or so before, then at gravesite not so much.
  16. 'sport plus' is in the driving mode ? For MG ... eco, normal, sport At MG & PEA CS, don't notice any difference timewise in charging, though didn't pay attention to actually kW reading. Only time I noticed a difference was at MG/Hua Hin, noticeably slower, but charging cable was noticeably thinner, so either original was smaller or replaced with smaller cable than local PKK/municipality's MG dealer's cable.
  17. Do NOT mention the sale price, let the land office state the appraised rate, which is what I've/we've done on every sale. You can find this out ahead of time, or just look at your paperwork when you bought the house. as chances are, within 3 years it hasn't changed, or if so, very little. This is 2018 info, and I think changed a bit since 2010, as I thought it was 10%, sliding scale down, 5 to 1 yr of ownership. But apparently 3.3%, if that info is current. https://www.sansiri.com/en/news/thai-property-taxes-explained-what-you-need-to-know-286/
  18. Y'all should discuss that in PMs.
  19. Aside from the negative comment of what if, she did or didn't, primary residence or not, but 83k sounds about right, depending on sale price of house. Less than 5 yrs, and it is a higher tax rate, I think, along with possible income tax via profit of sale, though doubtful, since only 3 yrs old. Actually 83k sounds low, but depends on sale price. It reads like, she wants out of the mortgage herself, so can't see any negatives. As that liability is all hers. If you break even or make a few, then all is good. It's not in her best interest, for you to just walk away, so I'd ignore most of the previous replies. Next time, buy a condo.
  20. Yet another fake news Op-Ed. Shouldn't it be ... "Russian investors wisely taking advantage of the buyers market after covid shutdowns hits the island of Phuket hard" As the older, family folks with that kind of money, surely aren't on the draft/conscription list for the RU military. Wanting to move their money out of RU because of financial sanctions, is a good reason. Doing that via China banks is quite easy, so I read. Doubt they're taking Thai jobs also. Since illegal, and do they really want them. Use a bit of common sense, it's not hard, and you avoid the BS.
  21. So he says ... and with some of the new fines prices I've seen, 2000 is definitely a possibility, as is 5000 baht. Hope he learned his lesson ... follow the law, as there are consequences. ...it's not rocket science. Anyone planning on cruising my area/PKK, as I was O&A the other day, and noticed a few new speed cameras on Phetkasem rd/Hwy #4. Might want to use that cruise control set @ 90kph as I do now.
  22. If the soap opera happy public didn't support these influencers/YTer, then the market and their annoyance wouldn't be there. I think people should be required to get permits to publish content not about themselves and themselves only. As it is a commercial business for profit, and should require a release form signed. They are not news agencies, which also need permits/licenses and are accountable for their reporting (in theory).
  23. Saw Rory Gallagher open for 10CC .. there's a mismatch. Amazing who got airplay, and who didn't. Strange bookings & beginnings for many. Bluesology w/Reg Dwight (Elton John) touring with Isley Brothers, that Hendrix did a stint with ???? Reg also doing a stint with the Hollies. SRV & Bowie never happened, except on 1 album. SRV only offered $300 per show on tour to play. Along with not sure if Double Trouble would open all shows. So they all cancelled the contract. Apparently SRV was 'complicated' at times, as his wife & cocaine seemed to be an issue with Bowie and his manger. Saw Beck & SRV tour, and at the beginning they ended the shows together n stage playing a song. They alternated headlining, but by the end of the tour, they didn't play together and didn't get along at all. Egos got in the way, or so reported.
  24. Yes, some on many 'western' motorways, unless a certain size scooter, CCs, they are not allowed. No news here ... just another farang complaining about being caught violating the laws.
