Be aware: Re-entry permit
NoDisplayName replied to RafPinto's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The agent was correct. You can get a re-entry permit anytime, valid until the expiration of the CURRENT permission of stay. Agent asked when you would return. You gave a date before the end of the CURRENT permission of stay. I'll have to assume the agent did not ask if you were going to get a new permission of stay that very day, nor did you offer than information. There is a reason we all get the permission of stay first, then the re-entry permit. Note that we have to provide a copy of the current permission of stay to the IO at the re-entry desk. The re-entry permit is keyed to the permission of stay, with the POS number and expiry date written on the re-entry permit. -
Which BASIC pickup would you buy new or almost new?
NoDisplayName replied to Sandboxer's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
We're borrowing my wife's BIL's old work truck and will eventually buy it. 12 year old Toyota Hilux basic contractor's model, dual fuel (petrol or NGV) with nearly 400K on the clock. Don't know about AT as an option, though. Runs great, expect to get another 5 years out of it. I'd buy another similar model used next time around. Toyatas seem to go forever, any mechanic can work on it, and repair parts are readily available. -
1000 Island Dressing on a Pizza????
NoDisplayName replied to sqwakvfr's topic in Western Food in Thailand
You could try something amazingly devious. When you order, ask them to use regular pizza sauce instead of 1000 island. -
That would depend on the bylaws of the condo, if any exist. I would expect that anything attached to an individual unit is the responsibility of the unit owner. The regulations may state that the exterior must remain in accordance with the building plan, but that simply means the owner can't deviate from the plan. It says nothing about maintenance of privately owned units. Windows must also adhere to the building aesthetic, but if the owner breaks the glass, who is responsible for replacement? Same-same with balcony railings.

If I had to guess......... Bike is speeding along, drafting closely behind a big truck. Big truck slows down for unknown reason....perhaps the big truck parked in the emergency lane. Rider pops left without looking to undertake in the emergency lane...........Bam! -
The great firewall doesn't discriminate against salads. I can honestly say during my 15 years in 'red' China, I never needed a VPN to find salad making instructions, nor has salad been pixilated in movies. Yes, the Chinese know salads, but they aren't too keen on eating raw vegetables. Something to do with the nightsoil commonly used on the lettuce perhaps? The problem the Chinese have with western food, is they don't have many real, authentic western restaurants. Some Zhou will open a restaurant featuring western meals, but he has no experience, probably only ever had Scottish food at the local MacDonald's. He copies a menu off the internet, gives some photos to the cooks, and says make this. They prepare food that looks western, but tastes alien. I can confirm spaghetti made with ketchup, pizza with vegetable oil instead of pizza sauce, and poor cuts of meat smothered with pepper sauce and labeled steak.

You bought the condo? You own it? The railing in question is on the balcony in your unit, NOT a common area? Seems that should be your responsibility.

Bangkok Bank Changing your branch.
NoDisplayName replied to roger101's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Kind of pointless to change branches, if he can use any branch of Bangkok Bank for most services. There is no need for him to change branches. That's simply a waste of 3-4 hours of his life. ATM usage is irrelevant to his requirements - as you listed services that cannot be done at an ATM at any branch. The question to ask is what services can ONLY be provided by the branch that maintains his account. -

Understood, but the subject is changing bank locations. There is no need to change, as the services you listed (possibly excluding new passbook) can be done at any branch. Services unavailable from an ATM at his branch are unavailable at all branch ATM's. -

Not much of the above must be done in the branch where your account is based. Passbook?........probably, but I don't know this for certain. ATM card? Nope. My silom branch ATM card died, i got a new one in a Korat branch for the silom account. Immigration? Any branch can do your bank guarantee letter. (not sure about outside province). I used silom or ramkhamhaeng bangkok bank branches for my fixed accounts, got the bank letter at chang wattana or laksi branches. -

TM30 instead of a Cert of Residence when getting driving License?
NoDisplayName replied to Greenside's topic in Chiang Mai
No. Not acceptable. They want either a certificate of residence from immigration or a notarized affidavit from your embassy. (I got lucky...........the clerk accepted my notarized/legalized "affidavit of singleness" from my embassy.) -
Phimai has a new Hokee big box store with a newly-opened Swenson's in the mall area.

Amazing Thailand - Hub of Elvis Impersonators?

Your partner downloads the immigration sec. 38 app from the google playstore, submits a few documents (housebook, id card, rental contract depending on situation) to register her residence in the system. When that is approved, she can log into the system and fill out a TM30 registering you at the residence. You can do a search in the app to show the status of your application. Once it's approved, take a screenshot for your phone, and print off for future use. Your first 90-day report must be done in person. After that you can use the online system.

If travel is an option, then consider India. I had a valve replacement at Apollo in Chennai. Roundtrip flights from southern China, a week recovery at a beach resort. Total was about 10% of the cost in the USA......essentially equal to just the cost of the valve itself in the US. They accept visa/mastercard.

Have an acquaintance In England wanting to spend about six months in Thailand. The embassy website is unclear, with dead links and unanswered questions. So I'll ask here. An e-visa SETV allows for one 60-day stay. Can that be extended an additional 30 days at immigration? Is the e-visa METV available at the London embassy? The website did not specifically say it was, only that METV fees would not be refunded if an SETV was issued. Can each entry on an e-visa METV be extended an additional 30 days at immigration? I suppose he could do the visa waiver + 30-day extension three times, fly in once, plus a couple day trips to Vientianne. Thank you for any and all advice.
