I think Jomtien is good around Dvaree & Lumpini condos.

US auto industry changed to metric in 1975. The first "metric car" was Cadillac Seville. When they showed up for service at the dealer nobody wanted to work on them... American mechanics thought they needed metric tools! 90% SAE tools work just fine. They still hate "metric cars". US military is metric since 1975 (I think) but aviation still is mixed mess which hurts US companies worldwide sales. I can handle both. Plus British oddballs like "British Standard Whitworth (BSW)"

Who has cheapest PIZZA? There's one pizzeria in Jomtien who sells for 130THB. Haven't tried it. Saw the price on window. It's next to "Jomtien Lane’s Expat Foods" close to 2nd road. Just around the corner is German bakery "Back Fabrik".

Do you still keep up with news in your home country?
GypsyT replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Not much good coming out of USA. My ex there listens to the AM radio! Yes, she does. The man there sounds like fake Hitler on internet, screaming and yelling something about Trump... I suggested to get coat hanger antenna to her million $$ home, like hillbillies have in trailer parks, and start to watch black & white TV.... Didn't go well. -
You who know VT5 is it true only those who has end units can park under the buildings in shade? My ex gf has one end unit and claimed that. I see many empty spots under the buildings. I was thinking she wanted to boost the price when I was interested in renting it after we split up.

Exactly - why to complicate things? Simply stay out of conversation if you don't like it. PS. Just walked by "Transit Cafe Kebab" next to Sands cafe on Pratamnak 5. Looked good and popular and there were line of customers.

Yes! Can't understand that at all. There are many empty lots available if zoning allows supermarkets. They could make killing.

...which is daily.

The worse kebab? It's here; Lake Mabprachan Kebab DTK. Near 7/11. - My gf learned to eat there w her late German bf (didn't die for kebab...) - I tried one bite and spit it out. They put SUGAR and maybe syrup to it... - I have eaten decent Kebab in Europe by Turks. Always lamb.

Me too wonder what kind of meat is it? Where does it come from? In US South I saw "Road Kill Cafes"w signs; "YOU KILL - WE GRILL". Every time I see Kebab I remember that.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadkill_cuisine

...and enough roads to walk 5km in QUIET area -:) When I stay at VT1 I go there to walk. Guards are OK, they know me.

Where to meet 50 something like-minded individuals?
GypsyT replied to Celsius's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thank you! The best people I've met in the US: https://www.meetup.com/los-angeles-hiking-group/ I was part of that group and 4-5 other hiker groups for 15+ years. I wish there were similar group here. OP, this is not very smart: "Guys who are not afraid to walk on their own and don't need a woman to hold their hand" - Hints you hate women... or can't get/hold them - Good luck -
I know, it used to be great to have US passport to Vietnam. Now I use EU passport. Pre-Covid I paid $75 for 6mo and could have bought 12 mo for $ 135. No longer similar deals. The reason? I don't know for sure but Vietnam and China have many economical deals going on and China gets cheap land lease deals. Vietnamese people don't like it and have been protesting openly. I also tried to help one family to visit close relatives in the US but they were turned down 2 times. No reason given. US Embassy people handling the case were from Malesia (they think) or similar country and were very rude. I hope Vietnam - US relationship will get better and some kind of retirement agreement for easy and inexpensive handling come quickly. I could very well start to spend my time and money there instead of Thailand. Today, Feb 3, I was at Jomtien Immi to get 30-day extension. 2 weeks ago I was told "come closer to expiration date" which is Feb 7. Didn't get it, "come back on Feb 8" was an excuse today. A day past expiration... Circus at Jomtien gets funnier every time....

I think it's very smart to keep connection to the US. I don't like politics and 75% of anything else but still I feel my money is safe thanks to FEDs overseeing everything. When I was living there full time I was investing to risk banks with highest rates. 3 of them went under, Fremont one of them. I was one of many standing in line to get my check from FED's official for full amount PLUS full interest up to fatal date. I was so impressed and really thankful something is so well taken care of! I never lost anything since I always kept just under max insurance amount. I still do the same.

It's normal they, hotels & condos, charge premium when they can. I had "as new" condo for 700B/night. The owner asked if I could find an other place for 4-6 nights so he can cash in during New Year. He had some free spending Russians coming in town. He's a cool guy so I said "Yes, I can". In return I get to stay 500B a night starting in February. It was win-win for both.

I just got back from Lake Mabprachan. I don't like crows or noise on Jomtien beach so that was a perfect weekend escape to nice area. Super clean new hotel, East Shore Pattaya Resort, balcony over looking the lake toward sunset. The cleanest pool I have seen. Nice 11km evening or morning walk around the lake with likewise friendly people. Will be back. But today I'm happy to be on Jomtien beach. I'm not foodie but I like cheap good street food. Jomtien has it! Life's good -:)
