A lot of people and their friends and relatives aren't overly concerned about the sexual orientation of their friends and relatives or even total strangers. Right now, I imagine the friends and relatives of these victims are filled with grief and sadness and not the least bit embarrassed by the stuff that so obviously bothers you.

In our circumstances, we find that regular sweeping and housekeeping in the yard is the primary deterrent. With this cooler weather, rodents are looking for warmer spots as well. When I had my rat attack, the bro-in-law had dropped off a sack of corn for his chooks inside the front gate, burst a corner and the rats would grab a mouthful of kernels, cross the yard and climb aboard the pickup to eat. You could see their little footprints and <deleted> in the engine compartment. One got trapped in the recirculate vent and died which we 'discovered by nose' about 4 days later. That was a four hour job to properly clean and disinfect properly; took an extra hour for all the maggots to drop out of the duct work. The rats had previously gotten into a corner between the battery and nearside headlight and chewed on a few wires but nothing major and another DIY job to fix. I have since installed a couple of 'rat guards' for the openings in the scuttle below the windshield where Ford chose to leave a couple of large openings to the recirculation system. Got them on lazada. Before cleanliness became next to ratliness, a YouTube suggested mixing the napthalene mothballs with some regular tobacco in 'breathing' pouches or tubs in the engine compartment. I did that for a while but they were bit a faff to replace or replenish. Since the yardwork has improved, they've not been required. However, if we see the odd rat, I have a can of the regular deterrent and spray that around the truck's access points and in the engine bay, just in case.

Scratch on wing - insurance or out of pocket
NanLaew replied to recom273's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If me or Mrs NL do something inconsequential like the OP's missus, it's added to the half-a-dozen other inconsequential dings and scrapes and once a year, we turn it over to our favorite local panel and paint shop. Two or three days and 3000 to 5000 baht later, it's like a bought one (again). Our NCB is 50%. -
The total of bribes agents fees paid across the nation is peanuts compared to the figures being bandied about here. Hakparn is chasing after hundreds of Chinese who have paid millions, maybe billions, to get an immigration status that allows them to sit behind a Thai proxy and acquire huge tracts of valuable land on Sukhumvit and Ratcahdapisek. Hakparn isn't about chasing the old farang who's dropped 20k so he can squat on his retired school teacher wife's mortgaged half-rai in Bahn Nawk for another year.

Checkup Packages 60+ (liver, sugar, testosterone)
NanLaew replied to Posideon's topic in Health and Medicine
I used to do the cardio stress test as part of the annual checkup at Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital when I was in my 40's. Never any drama. Six months ago, I had to do one for a Malaysian Offshore and Remote Onshore Medical Cert. Having not done one for over 20 years, I was a bit nervous but after about nine minutes on the treadmill, the attending cardiologist ended the test saying I had surpassed expectations at around the six minute mark and everything was still tickety-boo. Quite stressless too. -
Checkup Packages 60+ (liver, sugar, testosterone)
NanLaew replied to Posideon's topic in Health and Medicine
Never heard of it so I did a Google search into Transient Elastography. As an oil and gas man, I find it very interesting to see shear-wave analysis in the health industry. For who is it being recommended and by whom? -
If you think @bubblegum , @Liverpool Lou or even @NanLaew is anonymous, you're not as sharp as I thought you were. The OP's openly offering to chit chat 'anonymously' with total strangers about this. Anyway, the OP's sour grapes notwithstanding, what ever happened to caveat emptor? Suck it up and move on.

Beagle bag sniffers at Suvarnibhumi airport
NanLaew replied to kidneyw's topic in Suvarnabhumi Airport Forum
There was an 'active' watch for pork products in arriving passengers checked baggage due to regional swine flu concerns. However, this latest blanket prohibition on imported food products is simply based on a tax (revenue) grab, that's all. Anyone quoting Australia and New Zealand's extremely strict border controls on plant and animal products as something that Thailand is simply following doesn't know their quokka from their koala. Place haggis in freezer for 72-hours before travel. Within 6 hours of check-in, wrap haggis in double-layers of aluminum foil and place that inside two 'ziplok' plastic bags. Place in the middle of your checked baggage. On arrival in BKK, scratch the beagles ears as he wanders aimlessly past your bag on the carousel (they like that). -
So this nameless online trader, already made aware of your potentially defamatory earlier thread (since moderated and closed), gets in touch with you, confirms you are defaming him and/or his business and takes you to court. Did you even read this forum's definition of defamatory comment that a Moderator took pains to point out before closing your last effort? Get over it and stop this nonsense.

Bank insists I wear a mask
NanLaew replied to happydays's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
What hasn't changed is they (still) have your money. And the bank (still ) has your money too. It's not paranoia, it's being polite. But why is it even a debatable issue any more? Yes, masks are voluntary but when push comes to shove, is it just too difficult NOT to slip a mask on if/when a local kneejerk reaction collides with your otherwise peaceful coexistence here in the Land of Incessant Wind Ups? -
UPS vs Fedex vs USPS for sending documents from USA to BKK
NanLaew replied to lowp's topic in General Topics
The USPS tracking number will appear on Thailand Post local tracking once it has been cleared through the Postal Customs Service Division at Lak Si. I have used USPS maybe 10 times and only had one package go MIA. FedEx will typically use local services for 'last mile' delivery anywhere beyond their 10 regional service centers. They have another 6 centers serving Bangkok so the OP should have no worries. https://local.fedex.com/en-th When I lived in Pattaya, they had a local office as well as their regional depot just off Highway 7 around at Pin Thong. I used to have inbound packages delivered to their Naklua office address and go collect them myself. This got around playing phone tag wit h a delivery driver. I collected one time from their Pin Thong warehouse when I found a package they had been holding for several days went uncollected (I was out of the country unexpectedly) and I had to intercept it before it went on the 'return to sender' wagon. Beyond that, a 100% success rate with FedEx inbound/outbound. -
Non O Savannakhet
NanLaew replied to sjbrownderby's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Thanks for that. It's not linked to any work, just an old man enjoying his twilight years in the Land of Smiles. The re-entry permit was issued at BKK so theoretically I could stop by the extension desk and ask them to cancel it before I fly to Vietnam. Actually, I would like the multi-entry Non-O to go in my other UK passport but I ran the gauntlet of Immigration at BKK about 7 years ago when I tried a visa waiver entry on that passport. The IO started gurning as his database showed I had the other passport, had an extension, was married (used to do Mar. Ext. so in their database), lived in Udon, etc.. His supervisor was even worse and thought that one of my passports was fake. The upshot was being told if you have a passport with a valid visa and/or extension in it, that's the only one that's allowed for entry to Thailand. YMMV TiT -
Plane Returns To Phuket Airport After Extra Passenger Found On Board
NanLaew replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Happened to me with Delta out of ATL. A very late 'technical' call resulted in a change of equipment and it was only half-way through the already delayed boarding that the ground staff spotted the seating configuration change. Worked out to my benefit in the end in that myself and three other pax who would had already been bounced of the flight for not attending Delta's arcane "pre-boarding" event where they swap your boarding pass issued by Delta elsewhere to one issued at ATL (I think it's a scam to get the infrequent flier to involuntarily give up their seat). Anyway, we got shunted to the front of the bus (turn left on entry) for the flight to Rio. Roundabouts and swings though: since ATL ground crew apparently stop loading planes at 22:00, no baggage was loaded on our late departing plane which made for a frantic hour for their agent at GIG the following morning. And some say Thai VietJet are dodgy? -

Then (again) there's that story of the chap who got chopped up by an angry taxi driver who went for the samurai rather than close any doors left jar by the petulant.

You are crediting that Thai chook with way too much intelligence here. After a "week or two", the OP will either have a pretty good aim or a bloody sore arm. Probably both.

Re-ENTRY permit at Suvarnabhumi Airport
NanLaew replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ridiculous it may well seem but it is a reality. If one uses a Fast Track entitlement at BKK but still need a re-entry permit, you will get the 'sideways shuffle' into the plebs Immigration Zone 2. I once had my ear seriously bent by a discomfited Fast Tracker who was obviously in a huge rush to get to the lounge for his pre-flight cocktails and canapes. -
Non O Savannakhet
NanLaew replied to sjbrownderby's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I have a Retirement Extension and associated Multiple Re-entry Permit that expires on 15 February 2023. Can you confirm that I will only be able to get a Multi-Entry Non-O (marriage) in Savanakhet in the same passport AFTER the current entitlement expires? I believe there's also an option of getting the Multi-Entry Non-O (marriage) at the RT Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. If there's any links to a thread where this has been done recently, that would be appreciated. -
Excellent, thanks. Not a fan of what Australians call a pie. These look like the real thing with cold water pastry.
