it's that long even in the usa submitting to passport center directly these days. when i did mine they had an expedited service, but i think it just saves a week or two and is not guaranteed (did not seem worth the extra cost to me really). how did you get a new passport same day?? i think they all have to be mailed to processing in the usa.

Jomtien's gone rogue on Non-Imm O visa
JimTripper replied to Pattaya57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You do need a residence in your home country to get the o-a though. They ask for a permanent residence address near where you are applying. I think you need to show a drivers license or other id with the address on it. -
Are there therapists for depression here?
JimTripper replied to sotonfarang's topic in Health and Medicine
I wonder why. Don’t they have psychology majors in college and grad school? Seems like people would start private practices with group therapy or psychoanalysis. -
Retirement visa / change of address
JimTripper replied to djayz's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Why would immigration care where you got the visa? Do a TM30 report where you currently live and then go in to the local office for the certificate of residence. You are allowed to move around. -
Packs of wild dingo’s on kasetsin. I don’t recommend walking around at night up there.

But the beach is dirty.

1st decide who you are. There are new modern condo’s (favored by Chinese) like Unixx or Treetops and there are old school condo’s (favored by European and western) like view talay’s. You can cut the choices in half when you decide.

Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke
JimTripper replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The legit medical users I have known have done edibles, not smoking. Edibles are much longer lasting and not an immediate high. That’s one way to tell if it’s someone who just likes smoking and getting high, or if it is for medical reasons. Another way is when they start doing it whenever friends are over, passing it around, etc, that’s more just wanting to get stoned. -
Where I am I don’t even bother to separate the recyclables. Whatever i put in the bin is rummaged through each night. I can hear someone taking the glass and plastic out each night.

Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke

When there is a run on anything most people lose. Happens all the time with fads, tulip mania, etc. people chase it up expecting to get rich, get loans and expand too quickly, which leads many to financial ruin. -
Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke

There is a medical cover for it’s use. People end up believing they are medical users when they actually just like getting high. I know people that claim ailments that probably are not 100% legit like arthritis, headache, etc stuff like that. There’s a list of such ailments. They go into a quack dr and claim they have a headache and here’s your script sir five minutes later. Dr bills insurance company for the sham exam. just in the company of friends they claim ailments now, to appear as genuine medical users because it looks legit or they actually believe it. -

Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke

I can’t figure out why Thailand allowed grass. They were all aboard on the family friendly tourism and high earning expat visitor train then they allow it to become a stoner destination. everyone knows higher class people don’t sit around getting stoned, with the exception of some rock stars. Are and families planning to brings their families to smoke weed or be around those who do? Do you like being in a resort where there are guys in dreadlocks sitting around the pool getting stoned? what are people doing in their rooms getting stoned? Utilizing the services of prostitutes? Does little Joey need to hear that or be exposed to that lower class of society? your father knew people who utilized alcohol and it was always a manly thing to do, even if it was not healthy. He also knew people who smoked, but he did not at all associate with that segment of society who smoked grass. What losers. Did they grow up and live in their mothers basements, become heroin addicts, live on welfare and food stamps? Did you end up there? Loser! What could you have achieved had you not succumbed to grass, the deadly weed. What kind of man did you leave behind in a puff of smoke and laughter? If only you listened to the film in family values class in high school you could have grown up to be a pillar of society, a doctor, architect or lawyer. Instead you got stoned in the bushes at lunchtime and became a loser student, and now your kids need a good example. Man up and change your ways, don’t let your kids take the same path! You won’t ever be your fathers man, but you can try to fake it, like your father did. -

Oh yes, beer. ????????♂️ What about coffee, do you get the jitters from it. I mean grass, sorry. I mean beer. Anyone else notice how calm it is outside today? Feels like i’m in a different country. No alcohol sales today ????????♂️. Everyone either decided to stay home, or they just shut up. Can’t decide which it is. -
Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke

Seems popular on here to change the drug of choice subject anytime grass is mentioned. So, I tried tripping after I got out of college and bad tripped on that too. So I no longer do that either. -

I stopped liking grass after I got out of college. It just stopped doing what I need as an adult. There’s something odd about older people getting stoned. Just feels weird. -
Stranded in Thailand: Bankrupt foreign woman unable to return home
JimTripper replied to snoop1130's topic in Krabi News
you don’t need a return ticket out if you have any kind of visa. Return tickets are only for visa exempt entries. Even if she had one many people don’t use the flight, they just don’t show up and they expire, or they are irresponsible people in general and don’t bother to change them, or can’t watch their finances enough to see that they will ever run out of money (go figure), or they have some sort of personal weakness (like booze or women) that sets them on a downward spiral whereby they can’t control their behavior. -
Stranded in Thailand: Bankrupt foreign woman unable to return home

The us embassy does not support broke expats. No free airline tickets. the most they would do is coordinate with family so could help her withdraw the funds. -
My guess is none of them really mind. Your just walking in and getting employees that are dumb and don’t know how to open accounts ????. Keep trying.
-
That’s strange. I thought they would have extended a year out from each entry checking the insurance each time. How are you going to get 2 years if they don’t extend it when you re-enter? Maybe you should have asked the officer at the border. It’s not illegal to ask. Or go to immigration and ask them to extend it a year without using the border entry to do it??

So the major problem with elderly farang here is that they lost ties or moved away from family. There’s nobody to fill the gap when they need assistance unless they are really wealthy and can buy the help, or if they are lucky enough to meet someone special and their family. I have never seen this factored into the cost of retiring in Thailand. It’s usually just rent, food, etc.

New rental owner wil not assist with TM30
JimTripper replied to jumbo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Does anyone have the link for me to do them online? Or can the form noted above be dropped off at immigration after moving in? (Is it just that form, or are other documents required?) I don’t mind doing it, I just want it done correctly and on time. -
New rental owner wil not assist with TM30
JimTripper replied to jumbo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The place I rented for a month was my only permanent residence during that time. Is there a way of checking to see if it was done, or is getting a copy anywhere I stay the answer. Feels like places would be reluctant to give out paperwork. Maybe I can print out my rental agreement and present this to immigration at the 90 day appointment. If it was not done they should have the landlord on record to forward any fines to them directly.
