  1. The guy actually wears shoes and your complaining? ????????‍♂️ He is better dressed then most people around there walking on dirty streets with open ended sandals.
  2. Do any of the banks require re-certification every year or re-checking of the visa, or is it just a permanent account forever? I may want to leave the country and park some funds here.
  3. Is Bangkok Bank better then Kasikorn in any way?
  4. Do I need the certificate of residence. Kasikorn website does not mention it under required documents.
  5. Are there any problems opening an account with an O-A visa, or are the problems just for a tourist visa?
  6. In Pattaya now ????
  7. The rental money paid for a place to live so it’s not lost, it bought something. The money saved by not buying a property was used for other things and not tied up in an illiquid asset that’s hard to sell.
  8. One good thing about Mexico is as a U.S. citizen you can get Mexican citizenship, yes citizenship, pretty easy. I think you need about 120k-150k ????????‍♂️ usd and your fast tracked in basically just extend things out for some years with minimal hassle. You can also come and go into and out of the country as you please. So that balances out the “safety” factor somewhat. You won’t ever get kicked out like you could in Asian countries. That’s “safer” for a lot of retirees that may not have a place in their home country left to run to. Or if there’s some kind of problem you have rights and won’t just be jailed, etc stuff like that.
  9. Tried it for you already. I’m american (California) and also lived in Thailand 10 years. I got tired of Thailand about 5 years ago and tried Mexico. I already knew Mexico, but wanted to test it out long term living there. I lasted about 3-5 months or something. Lived in puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Mexico City before calling it quits. Here are some of the reasons: I was stuck in a very touristy resort location or a gringo apartment. local housing is not very accessible, esp if you don’t speak spanish Resort areas are pretty pricey. Usually just under USA costs. the Mexican guys are really annoying the Mexican women are very shy and difficult to spproach I could not eat beans and rice every day the stupidity of tourists drinking got to me theres something wrong with the toilets and plumbing felt like I was trapped there. No nearby countries to visit or move to if I needed to. seems like the people are poor just like in Asia many places, but the Mexicans kind of “know they are skint”. They don’t deal with it well. So they are kind of pissed off and jaded about it because they know what’s going on in the USA.
  10. There was a big empty lot near my place in Bangkok that planted banana trees on it. Now I know why. I thought it was because the neighbors complained that it was unsightly ????????‍♂️.
  11. Why don’t Foreigner-Thai couples ever build modest homes to fit into the rest of the community? Maybe they want to stand out as special in some way, or better then others??? Or pride, trying to buy respect??
  12. Not if you get it at the local Thai market. It’s fresh there because it’s setup for Thais each night. Also, they can’t mess with the ingredients because it’s already cooked. ???? That’s where I went wrong. I used to buy almost always at the market, but switched to getting it cooked when I moved to a touristy area from places that served a lot of foreigners, because it was easier and the thing to do. Fortunately there are some fresh markets in my neighborhood I can’t wait to check out.
  13. I’m getting a lot of problems when they “ask me”. I’m going to just wander off and figure they will make it as it’s supposed to be, or oh well, try another place next time. Liked it better up north where they don’t kiss <deleted> so much and just make it like it’s supposed to be without asking.
  14. I have noticed that in Thailand as well. I don’t see disabled out in public. They must exist just like other countries. Do they just sit at home??? Not sure.
  15. Maybe after a year. Two month deposit usually would be lost if you move early.
  16. I have noticed places and vendors messing with the food recently. They are not putting spicy in it and are asking about it more when I order. Even when I ask for it spicy, they are not doing it. is this a new thing? Never noticed it before. I keep getting bland dishes with no punch at all. Maybe it’s from foreigners complaining “it’s hot” etc ????????‍♂️
  17. No birthday suits on walking street
  18. Are you in a rush? Try SCB and krung thai bank. Forget Bangkok bank. Keep trying one branch every other day. can you get bbb fiber internet in your name at your rental? Get your name on a utility bill and bring that in with you. Get a postpaid cell plan with AIS or true move with your name and address on it, bring that in… oh yeah, forget Bangkok bank if I forgot to mention it…
  19. So you profited $100 a month by staying in the same spot for 23 years. (I mean a million, sorry, sounds better ????????‍♂️).
  20. A lot of the guys in Pattaya are utilizing the services of prostitutes. I see them all over town walking around.
  21. I take a 50 and fly them from the USA when I return every couple years
  22. It causes a big stir in thailand because a foreigner is doing something other then being in a bar and drinking. Any gesture of individuality is seen as a threat.
  23. It’s also lost a lost more if you buy and your property value goes down. Property values don’t always go up! That’s a myth created by the real estate industry.
