  1. Your balcony is a good place for a beer. Don't feel like you have to be around Thai's or go out to have a good time. Just like in your home country you can relax at home. I used to feel like I had to go out all the time because I was in Thailand.
  2. I should get a shirt with that printed on it.
  3. Would you tap it if there was nobody else around? Be honest.
  4. It seems like many no longer want to get involved in private rentals. I tried that in a couple places and they just direct me to the community board.
  5. Probably more like tracking deposits in Thai banks, deposits for retirement visa's, moving money in to buy property, etc. If you don't have a bank account here you're probably safe for now.
  6. One good way to deal with a Thai guy is to force them into a situation where it's quiet and they are alone. They can't stand it. I have seen situations (usually a security guard or similar) that have to work alone in an empty or dark space. They get real agitated and depressed. If you can't go to extremes, just approximate as much as possible. For example, keep the radio and TV off, don't talk and give eye contact, give them rooms in the back away from traffic sounds with a lot of privacy, or anything that's not social, stuff like that.
  7. You have 8 months to think about it. Let me know.
  8. Any opinions on renting there?
  9. Can somebody summarize for me? I don't have time to read the thread. I have been here over 2 years, do I need to file and when?
  10. Lots of people simply don't understand what you're saying. They know a certain set of greetings and words that makes them appear to understand you, but the rest is jibberish. They just make up responses to avoid embarrasment. I never buy what they recommend anymore, it's often wrong. When I shop without "help" it's always correct. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♂️. That gives me the creeps. I don't like people "hovering" around me when I want to browse. It feels needy and weird. I wish they would go away.
  11. Yeah right, either act normal or get lost, so it's not an issue. Instead of hovering around acting weird.
  12. They are not avoidable. Believe me I've tried!
  13. It's frustration. That's why they are looking a bit weird in the pictures. Kind of unprofessional poses and grimacing.
  14. It's not "sales people" and "girls following you around". They are watching you so you don't steal. Need to look under the surface a bit.
  15. Imagine being the woman and the guy starts getting horny. He starts floating around with an erection. Eventually, you would give in just to take the edge off the situation and focus on flying. Maybe passing his bunk on the way to the toilet pretending you dropped something. You drop your pants half way and he pounds you for 30 seconds while you are kneeling down. Worst case, he's staring right at you and stroking his buddy. You could also act like you're helping him with his space suit and reach in and do a hand job quickly, stroking it, acting like you're adjusting the suit.
  16. Completely ignored in Thailand or you're ignoring it? Almost every shop I pass calls me in and follows me around while I'm in there. What planet do you live on?
  17. Yes, envy & pride (entitlement). Two of the cardinal sins are a big problem here. An envious person does not matter to me much. I can just avoid them. When envy is mixed with pride however, they are moved to act, by tearing me down in some way. Usually in some passive-aggressive manner. An example would be following me around everywhere to make me uncomfortable or overly restrictive visa policies like 90-day reports.
  18. It's racism. They are trying to make foreigners uncomfortable while they are shopping. They are not allowed to interfere like small shop owners do by talking, standing in the way and distracting, so they just follow obviously and closely.
  19. It's going to get worse as the economy sours. The anger gets vented onto tourists and foreigners, because they are viewed as a meal ticket that's not delivering. I already had some owner in a cafe tell me his sob story and how he was looking for a business partner. They think they are owed something for allowing foreigners to be here and utilizing services and goods.
  20. It's pretty obvious. All one needs to do is look around. Do you see mixed groups of guys walking around, eating or drinking together? It's very rare. It would need to be a group from work or something like that. It's not a language barrier, many Thai guys can speak English fairly well. Definately enough to be drinking buddies.
  21. Agreed. After many years here I think it's insecurity (inferiority complex). Probably due to knowing you have more money or a bigger penis. Jokes aside, it's very real. If I do get in a group it quickly devolves into whether they can get me to pay for drinks, etc. There's always a weird undercurrent or 'inside joke' thing going on. Less so if it's one on one. Less so the older they are. Have you tried showing them your penis? When in doubt, whip it out.
  22. Not pit bulls. It can make them angrier.
  23. Yep, you may need to carry around the reading glasses just in case when your out. That becomes troublesome because I end up sitting on them or looking like some old guy with them in my front shirt pocket or with them on a string around my neck. With varifocals I don't need to do that.
  24. I had a bed linen cleaning charge and move out cleaning charge on my past two contracts. I guess it's a thing here. The a/c needed maintenance through me every six months. Failure to do it and I could be liable for any problems. Also, many places come with dishes. A common scam is if you break anything they need to buy an entire new set, not just that one dish, so be careful. If that happens you can take the rest of the old dish set (which I did once). It also forces them to really buy a whole new set and not just that one dish after you're gone. If it's not in your contract you don't owe it though.
  25. Sounds good, I need to try that. Removes the human error aspect. We can always chat, after the exam.
