I wonder if the alcohol hours and early closures have anything to do with it? Many people won't show up if they need to keep track of hours and closing times. It becomes a chore to plan when to show up and leave. Watching the clock basically.

I'm not sure how you can't find new girls in Bangkok? If you mean at the same bar, ok. Millions of people around though, while Pattaya is very limited. I was referring to customers in the red light areas, not girls. There still seem to be many girls. I just got out of Pattaya after a year! In Pattaya, I was bored out of my mind. Same few bars (all pretty much the same) and foul attitudes all around. I just stayed in central though and walked. No driving around to those "hidden gems" and great areas elsewhere everyone seems to know about.

Japanese Tourist Goes Berserk, Fights Girlfriend, Rams Sedan
JimTripper replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Japanese men can get real angry when they snap. Almost like a kamikazee state. They act real calm usually, but it reverts. I think there are many suicides in japan where guys snap or go into these extreme depression episodes. -
British yoga teacher stranded in Bangkok airport over passport tear

It's a rogue airline employee. Just as concerning are simpleton clerks checking visas at the airline desk. They don't know the rules and are not trained in immigration matters. -
They probably want to goto those new trendy clubs like in Thonglor or whatever, or the emisphere (whatever that is). I feel like I'm too old for those.

It feels like Bangkok redlight areas like Patpong, Cowboy and Nana are devoid of customers. Especially Patpong. The night market was dead and hardly anybody there tonight. Is it just me? I think if I went into a go-go I would be the only one there. I remember the Patpong area crowded with people when I first came to Thailand, standing room only. What happened? Where is everybody? I don't think it's a low season thing, feels more like it's going out of style. There was some activity and traffic on the Japanese street, but the old school street was dead.

The Patpong foodland is deserted as well, only a few other customers in there in the evening. Also, the Patpong night market near there was almost deserted as well. I remember it being packed full standing room only when I first came to Thailand ages ago. The whole area felt empty, lots of girls in the gogo's still or sitting outside, but I think no customers. A sign of the times I guess. Must be hard for the bars around there. Come to think of it, Bangkok nightlife in general feels empty to me. Maybe it's just me because I have been away for awhile, but it feels like there's not as many people around. That includes, Nana, Cowboy and also Patong.

Certificate of Residence (CoR)
JimTripper replied to SouthThailand's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just go in. That's your home country. -
Maybe what happened is she was verifying my current Rx in the exam room, rather then doing an actual new exam. She did ask for my old Rx and also the dumb questions about having contacts in one eye or both. No normal optometrist would ask that. Opticians are allowed to verify current prescriptions. Or some wigged out new person on their first day and really nervous?? Only thing I can think of. There's no way she will last in that high end shop. The customers won't stand for it.

That's correct. Anything physically invasive requires a MD. Blowing the puff of air, drops, dilations, contacts, etc are allowed for OD's. I think Lasik requires the MD as well since it's cutting off part of the lens.

Yeah, I figured that out with the dentists. I always book with the one I want. I slipped up here, need to do it everywhere I go. That is, book with exactly who you want or you end up getting some assistant or generally inept person.
-
She also asked me several times if I was currently wearing contacts in both eyes, or just one eye. I don't know anybody who is corrected in only one eye, maybe that's a thing here. Also, why ask? Just do the exam and get it right and make a recommendation. It's not my job to figure out what I need.

Is it ok if I have a beer while I'm there, or am I only allowed soda water?
-
No, I had gone into this place last week at random because they sell a high end frame and talked to the owner who I felt was competent and agreed I would return next time for the exam because it was near closing time. When I went in this time that sane guy was there, but another staff took control who did the exam. I did not realize the lady was going to do the exam until I was already in the chair. I don't think she was a doctor.
-
I would If I could find a deserted one. Still looking for that nice Hawaii property. I guess it's never perfect. In the meantime I need a beer.

I was walking around Bangkok. Wanted some mental relief from the traffic and noise. Needed a beer with some alcohol in it. When I get home I will have a lemonade.

No wonder people are rushed/confused and can't drive around here. They are not seeing properly 🤣

I went in today to get my Rx checked for contact lenses. This was at a fairly high end shop that sells designer frames, etc on the Silom business district main drag. The exam was free. What a joke and botched job some lady did. Just a real rushed slapdash job on the machine where she barely waited for an answer, sometimes just skipping my answer altogether and moving to the next slide. Took about five minutes. Final verdict was a handwritten Rx on a small piece of paper (no bc or diameter for the contacts Rx) 🤣 and a recommendation to see a medical eye doctor. I'm sure lucky I did not order an expensive pair of lenses or pay for the exam. I hope Thailand can do better then this. 🤷🏻♂️

Was walking around in the heat today and can't even get a cold beer around here in the afternoon. Not at a sit down bar anyhow. Feels similar to not having ID when I was 16. Now that I'm 54 though, I feel like I should get a cold one. 🤷🏻♂️

British Tourist Hurt in Pattaya Hit-and-Run Accident

Not possible, unless they are blind. They have to be looking somewhere and traffic can be coming from any direction. -

Indian tourist's holiday horror: Robbed, assaulted in Pattaya

It's much higher then reported. There is a reluctance for media to report since it tarnishes tourism. You're only hearing the tip of the iceberg.
