What was your job (profession) when you moved to Thailand
Keeps replied to still kicking's topic in General Topics
Exec Director for a Global Insurance Broker. Specialised in Property and Business Interruption insurance in Lloyd's and the London Insurance Market. Not the most exciting job but had some good times (plenty of corporate jollies) and made some lifelong friends. Enabled me to retire at the age of 49. -
If you were cooking a batch of 4 average size portions you would only require 1 Oxo cube. The Thai Knorr stock cubes are considerably cheaper (any meat or veg flavour) and perfectly adequate. Add a bit of additional seasoning (not too much salt as stock cubes are naturally salty) ground pepper, mixed herbs etc. You can crumble/dissolve the stock cube into whatever liquid you will be adding to the pot. As you mentioned in a previous post, chicken or pork will work fine. You are better off with a slightly fatty cut of meat ie. chicken thighs or pork shoulder etc (as opposed to chicken breast or pork loin) as the leaner cuts can dry out during the cooking. Always best to brown the meat off first for added flavour. If you want a thicker gravy/sauce either dust the meat in plain flour before browning. Or just sprinkle a spoonful of flour over the meat and veggies before cooking, add the stock and give it all a stir.

Canadian Arrested in Koh Pha Ngan for Illegal Work and Ecstasy Possession

I think he may be entitled to a reduction in sentence for such excellent pointing. Eyes on the goods, straight arms and rigid digits. Ticks all the boxes. -
I am a Star Alliance Gold card member, originally from joining the EVA Air Evergreen Rewards program. I think the membership program is excellent. I fly EVA 3 or 4 times per year on the LHR-BKK-LHR route. I accumulate a lot of miles and also get them boosted by my membership tier level. I regularly use miles to upgrade cabin class. This is normally instant although there has been the odd occasion when I have been placed on a waiting list. However, I have never been refused the upgrade. I have just redeemed 35,000 points to upgrade from Premium Economy to Royal Laurel class on the BKK-LHR leg of a return journey in March next year. When booking the original flight, I had to pay around £100 more for a booking class which allowed points redemption. The price difference between cabin classes would have been in excess of £1,000. The one element I find pretty poor is when you redeem points against flight cost. For the 35,000 points I redeemed I would have only got maybe, £200 off the flight cost. I used to get free upgrades on occasions but haven't since Covid. I wouldn't expect free upgrades just because I fly the same airline 3 or 4 times per year although it would of course be nice and gratefully received. I also find it extremely easy to maintain my Gold Tier status just based on my current frequency of flying with Eva. All in all I find it to be a worthwhile program. Points aside, the tier level provides priority check-in, priority boarding, priority baggage service and lounge access.

I have been using Wise to transfer to my Kasikorn account for around 5 years. I always put the reason for transfer as 'long term stay in Thailand'. Not once has a transfer appeared as an international transfer in my passbook. It always shows as TRN which I assume is just an internal transfer. Not an issue for me currently though.

Best Way To Maintain A Healthy Sex Life As You Age?
Keeps replied to SoCal1990's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I get what you are saying but the way I look at it is you may not drive your car as much when you get older but it's probably best to check from time to time that the brakes are still working ( or some such other meaningless analogy). -
Loy Kroh Road? I drink there now and again. Have met and chatted to a few pleasant 'girls' there but you certainly don't see many (if any) 'lookers' these days. I have one favourite bar within the bar complex I always visit if I'm out but only to chat and have a drink with a couple of the girls and the owner is a nice guy. I don't know if there is an alternative area within CM where there is a bar scene and the girls may be a bit more attractive?

I genuinely mean this with the utmost respect (and have previously posted along these lines) but taking into account your birth year and previous occupation (policeman I believe?) you really should change your posting name to Burma 'Old' Bill....555 -

I've always known them as 'Thrupenny Bits' although I was only 3 years old when this coin was withdrawn from circulation in 1971. -

They are actually one and the same:- "Walkers is the brand name used in the UK and Ireland, while Lays is the brand name used in most other countries around the world, including the United States, Canada, and Australia.

I am on AIS pay as you go. I use it to make a 20-30 minute call periodically to an elderly relative in the UK. I just type in 00344 then drop the zero(0) and enter the rest of the landline number I am calling. This type of call usually costs me around 80-100 baht. No subscribing to a new package or anything. I would make sure you have sufficient credit on your phone as you are no doubt well aware of how long you can be left hanging on trying to contact a financial institution in the UK. If you do go the free trial route with mytello I would check whether the length of call is restricted. You don't want to be hanging on and then cut off when your free minutes expire.

£5 per can. Think I'll swerve that one....

I stay there from time to time (first time over 20 years ago). It's in a great spot within Lamai. Right on the beach and in the centre of town but quiet enough at night. Lovely strip of beach and the resort's own restaurant is pretty decent. They do a very good Larb Moo Tod. Plenty of other restaurants within a 10 minute stroll, both on the beach and on the main drag through the centre of town. The Hive resort (was previously Wanta) which is 2 minutes away from Lamai Inn 99 is ok aswell.

I always use 00344 calling a UK landline from Thailand on AIS network. Works out about 4 or 5 baht per minute. Might be better options available but this one works for me. People will suggest Skype etc but I am replying with a solution to the scenario you have outlined.

The thing that annoys me the most is when somebody comes up with a whole list of things that annoy them despite the original post clearly stating that they can mention only one thing....555

This is a good website to see if your email address appears in a data breach. Strange name for the website but it is legit. My own email address has appeared in 7 data breaches over the last few years. Never suffered any financial loss - just was receiving a great deal of spam emails for a period after each breach. https://haveibeenpwned.com/

I knew exactly what you meant as soon as I read your original post. I also knew that others would take delight in pointing out the ambiguity of your post. One in particular rarely adds anything of value to a topic but takes great delight in pointing out others errors. -
