  1. I'd kill first, probably slice it in two or three piece with my shovel, before any negotiation. The Putin way...
  2. The LTR stands for "Long Term Resident", 10 Years, near zero effort; at 70, why would one bother....
  3. Honestly, why invest time, money and effort in PR when LTR is so easy to get. Took me 3 hours flat, expect the same in 5 years, one 90 days [equivalent] a year, no financial constraints, etc...
  4. He's not completely wrong, I keep telling my wife that the Thais should look at Japan if they wanted a model...
  5. Last week I used one to cut blue pipe. And then I couldn't connect it to my valve...
  6. Jack, many of our colleagues have used their CIGNA plans to get their LTR visa. Why don't you contact FAFICS and/or send an email to the member who represents non Thais. FAFICS
  7. Clearly a victim too, victim of toxic males or the abject system that keeps most people in poverty.
  8. Should it be legalised without a referendum? As much as I was in favour of civil partnerships would I vote against marriage. I would also support adoption of children of a previous normal marriage but only that. The family is the Atom of our society, it should not be interfered with without good reason.
  9. The answer lies in the number of physicians per 1000 people, 0.9 in Thailand versus 3.9 in the EU.
  10. Googled "Riccardo Morandi", died some 34 years ago. We are safe.
  11. And sadly I wouldn't believe any of your reports, as I know that the system can be manipulated in the most ruthless fashion. Reading reports of doubtful veracity is just a waste of time.
  12. Do not write any review, good or bad, for services in Thailand. I stopped reviewing after that incident in Koh Chang.
  13. They found a UK cost of living report on his seat, apparently he wanted to stay in Croatia
  14. Obviously social services weren't involved in the divorce, separating the children is preposterous. As expats we should ensure that our children have up to date passports and speak english, otherwise we are failures as fathers.
  15. Prepare your post in Word, or any other editor, and then copy/paste.
  16. Thanks for reply, actually I have been reading you for a while on this topic, thanks for sharing. Have to say so now that I have started posting. My plan for solar is to install as many panels as possible in places where that are optimally efficient. I will not plan to go "off grid". What I'd like is to cover most of the consumption during daylight and maybe get a backup pack for one or two hours. This would save about half my electricity bill and cover over 90% of the blackouts which here are mostly due to planned day time maintenance or last less than one hour when caused by lightning, wind, etc. Now, I couldn't agree more that an EV should come into the picture. Right now I am running two ICEs a CRV and a Jazz, both ICE. The plan will be to replace the Jazz by an EV and keep the CRV for longer trips. Nice way to go hybrid isn't? I have never like the Hybrid cars as I see them as overly complex, and Emperor Joseph told Amadeus: "too many notes".
  17. Well, if I take a 4.5k midpoint of your billing range, that's a 100 months payback. So over 8 years without any maintenance charges. Makes it a questionable investment IMHO. I.e when will you need to replace your panels, inverter, etc... Ok, let's not highjack this thread. But I was thinking of getting solar panels, but only of the roofs exposed for maximal yield. Now I am thinking there may be a better use for my [little] money.
  18. Yeah, some guys would boast about their 162.47 electricity bill and forget to tell that they've just spent half a million on solar panels... My answer to the OP would be 100K if single, 200K to 300K for a family of four. The latter is my situation out in Surin, and I consider my standard of living as modest. But I don't try to compare myself to the locals, as I watch them in amazement.
  19. You are not wrong, but there is something else about torrenting: I have set up my own media server with Plex, where my downloads are nicely managed. Gives me a flexility that I wouldn't get from Netflix, especially in Thailand where only a fraction of Netflix' catalog can be viewed. Don't tell me my that my media server costs me as much as ten years of a Netflix subscription, I know.
  20. Easy to fix: euthanise elderlies above a give age. Kidding. But many expats are in the same predicament, with embassies requiring physical presence for passport renewals. Some even require holders to make a second trip to pick up their new documents.
