Now you're making my brain hurt. IF you were not a tax resident of Thailand during tax year 2024, then you didn't need a TIN and you didn't need to file at all. What office was that? OK, so you probably meant a non resident of your home country. I don't think that changes the DTA rules on pension exemptions.

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. The issue is there on stepping on and stepping off. Many really do rush to get going before they should. I think it's even worse on boarding because they might look in a crowded bus that you have entered but then you might need to get to the back of the bus, so you're still walking when they speed up. Then there is speeding in general. A certain percentage drive like total maniacs.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)

I absolutely agree that if there is to be credible investigation, his background and what was happening with his family would be a vital part of the picture. Of course I have no idea if such a credible investigation will actually happen. He could be railroaded on the murder charge or he could be let off without at least considering there was a damning back story.

I do understand people who are skeptical that this remittance based tax will actually be enforced meaning people that technically do need to file and/or pay some tax can safely just ignore it. This is Thailand after all! Wasn't it widely broadcast that "recreational" cannabis would be criminalized again by now? You never know until you know. On the other hand we're hearing more that global non remittance based taxation is coming down the pike here. We need to be a patient and see what happens.

I will respond to this by citing a foreign example. Doesn't even need to be about Hitler. Let's look at today's Russia. Let's consider Putin's policy to erase Ukraine. Consider a Russian national that opposes that policy and does NOT want Putin to succeed in that. Ipso facto ... “Every red-blooded Russian should want your president to succeed, whether you vote for him or not, whether the same party or not, whether you like him or not.” Should they really? Or is it actually much more patriotic to oppose obviously wrong actions of our leaders?

No. Not me. I am not self enforcing anything. I am not rushing to get a TIN and I detest the commercial and otherwise pushers saying we all need them. I know I don't need a TIN yet based on my personal situation. If how I read the IRA policy is correct I will need one during a later year. By then I presume that rule will be much better clarified and I do predict expat retirees are that have accessable income are going to be more or less forced into the system. But don't accuse me of pushing it. I hate it but we don't always get what we want.

Let's get real. Probably zero expat retirees with no in Thailand income has filed before. The information given is about the reading of the DTA about pensions. Absolutely what has changed was about the timing, but like it or not (I don't like it) there is almost no doubt the starting this year such expat retirees with only remitted accessable income to show WILL be filing and most likely such filing will sooner or later be ENFORCED.

Are jaywalkers criminals or did they commit a crime? You'll be hard pressed to find people who object to deporting undocumented people who have committed SERIOUS crimes. Most everyone would support that enthusiastically as I do. But Trump's stated plan of wholesale mass deportation is destructive and unwise. Rather we should be seeking bipartisan immigration reform. Ironically, someone like him could possibly pass that ever elusive rational and civilized goal, but instead he's going for cruel, fascism theater that will greatly damage the economy.

IF a big IF Trump does manage to end that war in a way where Ukraine is secure to be a sovereign nation with IRONCLAD security guarantees, then I will give him credit for that. I doubt he can pull that off though. I think he's more likely at the end of the day to try to push Ukraine into a crap deal so he can take credit for BS that will be a setup for Russia to invade after they've rebuilt their army at a later date.
