Taking this closer to home suppose Trump put 50 percent tariffs on Thailand seriously damaging the Thai economy. Would Thai people become hostile to Americans here? Would the government take any action other than tradng even more with Russia and China. I really don't know But I would expect some tit for tat. For example if bank accounts of Thais in the US were frozen why wouldn't Thailand not do the same to expat Americans?

Typical ugly imperialist Yanqui BS. On par with saying slaves were actually happy. Panama's economy is doing very well. Panama City is a great expat destination often compared to Miami but housing there is too expensive for the lower budget seeking expat crowd. You can't equate the Noreiga era to now and that was well before Panama became super popular with expats.

It obviously depends on the specific nations, the specific actions of Trump, and whether there are many US expats living there. For example Panama. If Trump invades Panama as threatened to reclam the canal of course there would be backlash. Of course the state department would tell Americans to leave before invading but many would stay.

As I was saying, being a big bully and treating Latin American nations without respect did get a short term transactional win for Trump. That's all he ever cares about. But longer term, that kind of behavior will be backfiring BIGLY. Opinion: Latin America will not put up with Trump’s new Monroe Doctrine

Trivial sheit. COLOMBIA is an important country and if you know the first thing about the Colombian people, you would know they're particularly sensitive about dumb gringos spelling the name of their country wrong. For that to come from the White House really is notable. Hmm. Now I wonder if it was intentional disrespect. You know like when Trumpists would intentionally mispronounce Kamala.

First of all, flippin' learn how to spell COLOMBIA. Even the official white house communications spelled it wrong which is kind of a hint at the level of idiots working there under Trump. I am no fan of Petro from the left or Trump for outer space. Petro had a right to be offended by the use of military planes (unnecessary fascism theater) which is a big change and also the reports of inhumane treatment of the deportees were valid points of diplomatic discussion. You're right Petro overplayed his hand as he can't afford to have his economy ruined. So agreed Trump won this hand. But the world is watching Trump acted the ugly Yanqui bully when just talking first without threats would have gotten the same result, so Trump degrades the American brand internationally. Trump in no way represents sanity. Humiliating Colombia, a proud nation, when it wasn't even necessary in the first place, is going to plant poison anti-American seeds there and all over Latin America. How will they react? They'll pivot even more to China.
