Sorry Big but this is the first time in history a president has withdrawn from the nomination after the primaries. Each party has existing and fully legal rules already in place for such an odd situation. It's impossible to redo state primaries in the context of the timing so opening this up to elected delegates definitely is a democratic process. A back room deal or not allowing for an open convention process and just a coronation of an unopposed VP would not be democratic. Primary voters chose Biden Harris not Harris fill in the blank.
