Well I'm in favor of deporting criminal non citizens but it should really be based on the individual cases. In other words the specifics of their immigration status and the severity of the crimes. For example peaceful prorests are allowed in the US even by non citizens. Violent protests are crimes. Visit Mexico as a TOURIST at least once and then you might be eligible for this loophole many years later. So what's the point? Well if Mexico is on your list as a possible backup to Thailand, and you're visiting the U.S. or Canada anyway, a little trip down south could set you up for this option later. Even if you could qualify financially, in some ways this is better, because for standard method, you must make application at a Mexican consulate abroad. With the RNE, you do the application in Mexico. Once you have your temp residency status you're in the exact same boat as those who qualified using the standard method.
