I consider lack of residence security THE major downside of retiring in Thailand on retirement extensions. Which bank? Kasikorn has been very aggressive with this. Are you required to file FBARs and have been doing so? In that case they already know about your accounts in Thailand anyway and I wouldn't worry about that form. I did run into an issue at Kasikorn though. I file my US taxes with my Thai address and they tried to order me to put a U.S. address on the W9 form. The instructions for the W9 form clearly say the address should be your filing address. This actually created a scene in the bank as they called in three extra people to confer on the issue and they weren't budging and neither was I. I prevailed. Now if it had just been an interview asking for a U.S. address without me actually filling in an official signed W9 form I might have given them a US address and that is happening to some people that way. I think as far as the bank is concerned that's the same thing.
