The first quake that brought human causality(of 2) was in Chiang Rai in 2011. While one huge half-built building crumbled in BKK, no damage was done to the apartment I live in Chiang Mai(it is more than half a century old though).

While that skyscraper(under construction) crumbled, the Chiang Mai(closer to the seismic center) apartment(over 50 years old) I live in, didn't have any damages. The taller the building is, the shock of the quake is more amplified.
