Drunk Drivers Face Morgue Visits in Thai Road Safety Push
MalcolmB replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don’t know what world you to live in. Of course I know that they all got home safely, because I see them again. It is called socializing, you should try it sometimes, good for your mental health to have friends. Over 30 years experience drink driving and I have never had even a minor accident, and I can not recall any of the thousands of people I have drank with over the years ever having an accident either. The closest thing was my car getting smashed into when parked out the front of the pub by a sober driver coming around the corner too fast. I was in the pub and everyone heard the smash. Bloody inconvenient that was. I had to pay for a taxi home but insurance reimbursed me. -

You are carrying on a bit. Especially for someone who claims* to get his friends of drink driving charges. One of the advantages of living here is when I go back to the UK I can volunteer to be the designated driver for my friends. If they take my license off me there I don’t lose my Thai license. -

I don’t know how many times I have to say it. If you are going to drive after having a few PLEASE drive safely. What I am advocating will save lives. I would like to think people have listened and many lives have been saved already. When people are leaving the pub I always say goodbye with a friendly reminder to drive safely. I am making a difference. -

Which is why I am very careful crossing the road and stay off bikes, way too dangerous in Thailand. 80% of deaths in Thailand are on motorbikes. I believe you ride. Whether you like it or not you are a lot more likely to die on Thailands roads than me. Maybe you should have a good hard look in the mirror before criticizing me all the time. -

killed in traffic accidents in 2021, 25% (294) died in drunk driving crashes. Among vehicle occupants, only 18% of deaths occur on roads with speed limits under 40 mph -

Of course it is true. Someone who is reckless and speeds and shows off when drunk driving is a worse driver than somebody obeying all road rules and driving sensibly. It is just argumentative to claim otherwise. -

Not quite, only 25% on average. Speed is the big killer, I am very unlikely to be killed in a car crash doing 50kmh or less. -

Do you have double vision when drunk? Classic example of somebody who should never drunk drive. You probably shouldn’t drink at all and get same help. -

It certainly is looking that way. It won’t end well. You also have to look at the opposition. An old woman whose only qualification was marrying Bill Clinton. And a strange cat woman who couldn’t string a sentence together. He couldn’t even beat a sleepy old guy with Alzheimer’s. -

Again like 75% of members on this forum. The same rules apply to drink driving as drug driving, drive safely and take a lot of care. I don’t really know where the law stands in Thailand as regards to driving after having 10-15 bongs? I don’t believe they test for it? Is it illegal? What is the limit? Some people should never do it, some people are more than capable and will never have an incident. -

That not true. i have regards for others which is why I am a big advocate for driving safely and carefully after having a few. And as a result I have probably driven after having a few, as do 75% of expats in Thailand do, at least 600 times in my life without any incident. The problem with some drink drivers is they go a bit silly and drive less safely after having a few, which I strongly oppose. -

Indeed, if anyone should be taken to the morgue it is Richard. I am very skeptical it actually happened. Third different version of the same story. Sounds very far fetched. Especially since he acts so opposed to anyone else drinking driving. -

That is right Richard. Problem is also people such as yourself boast about getting your own friends off these charges by putting pressure on your police friends. If you really believed what you are sprouting why would you go out of your way to get your friends off after they have been arrested? -

They have done a lot of work and continue to be vigilant. Easy to criticize when doing nothing. The road deaths trend during Songkran is on a downward trend and has saved hundreds of lives. -

I am a bit. It kept me from breaking laws when I was young, the fear of the prison train.
