I'm sure that in the future, if you have a long stay visa, you will be required to have a tax id, regardless if you transfer money or not, and banks will ask for that if you want to open an account. I have noticed that ALL 3 banks I have opened an account in the last 3 - 4 months, request passport with long stay visa, pink card - yellow book AND driver license.
