Kicking right off out the front of the AUSTEMB Jakarta. One Indonesian 'gentleman' leading a group of protesters stated "Within 24 hours, if the Australian government does not apologise, we're ready to attack this place. We're ready to (target) Australians."
Where as the much more level headed Mr Abbott said he would respond to the letter he received from Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who has sought an official apology and a full explanation as to why Australian spies targeted his mobile phone, as well as those of his wife and some of his closest confidants, in 2009.

Suthep - It's time to pack up, go home and do your Chrstmas shopping
Why ?? He has his foot on the throat of PTP.
-
Now the government of Australia will know if Pak Bambang is having nasi goreng or mee rebus for lunch before the president knows!! Alamak!!!
I have it from my ASIS source in Jakata that he like noodles more than rice.

Apparently Abbot is drafting a formal letter of apology for Indonesia.
Do you have a source ?
ABC News this morning on the Australia Network.
WOW ! Massive backflip if it is true. Almost shameful. I cannot find anything on it ATM. Just stories on Indonesians burning Australian flags and what not.

In response to SBY expecting an apology,
This is what one Indonesian had to say about it in the Jakarta Globe by Fransisko Lojaya
“Took 200 years for the aussie gov to apologize for the stolen generation, hope SBY’s not holding his breath”
The stolen generation removals occurred between 1907 and 1969. Your maths is out quite a bit. But yes I agree SBY will be waiting a while.

Everyone knows everyone else does this type of spying. It goes with the territory. Has been the same for eon's.
What this is really about is the Indonesian's looking for an excuse to beat up on Tony Abbott. He called and implied all sorts of things about them in the lead up to the election on the topic of boat people.
Now it is pay back time.
If it wasn't the spy thing, they'd look for some other manufactured excuse.
Tony Abbott fast learning you have to play nice in the sand pit with the other kids.
You can be sure the Indon's will make sure that 'stopping the boats' is one election promise Abbott won't be able to keep.
Indonesia has already suspended co operation with Australia over people smuggling and will not resume until Abbot makes a public apology for spying on Indonesia. When will Indonesia apologise for spying on Australia? It will never happen and is a one way street. They will however accept the foreign aid from Australia and that is not on the suspension agenda.
Indonesia was looking to suspend cooperation with Australia over people smuggling from the moment Abbott was elected. How do I know? I had a mate who works for the Indonesian government who works with the Presidents office tell me as much. Given this is a web forum, I don't expect you to believe me, so I'll just put that our there. But for me, that is fact.
This spying stuff was based on the docments leaked by that American bloke. My understanding is that they were released months ago, so this is hardly 'news'. As said, it is convienient excuse to stir and piss Abbott off for this tub thumping on boat arrivals prior to the election.
And Abbott wasn't even in government when this is " alleged " to have taken place. It was the F.O.T and her cronies.

Me thinks Indonesia will stand to lose more than Australia will. If the Australian government doesn't go soft. I remember Australia giving $1 billion dollars in aid after the tsunami. And aid is always ongoing in a one way direction. Hope Abbot cuts the ambilicle cord.
As for ceasing military and intel cooperation... well I think Australia has bigger brothers to rely on than Indonesia in this field. Furthermore Australian SASR trains Indonesia's entire SF group Kopassus. Last year Australia gifted Indonesia 4 C130 aircraft etc etc etc etc......

but warned that if they still did not get the money, protest could happen.
I think that goes without saying.

Any chance of going full time soon ???

Sounds to me like a simple case of misunderstanding on the OP's part. If not then a little paranoia. This sort of thing happens all the time for apparently no reason, when there generally is one. However trivial it may be.
Older people always receive the highest of respect here in Thailand regardless of race as it is embedded in Thai culture.

I wouldn't get out of bed for 200 baht.

I wouldn't take this to the bank.

i am pretty sure that the foreign bank will be glad to learn that the main culprit, a police officer, is actually walking free
and ready to skim again...
It doesn't say he's walking free and ready to skim again.
He has been dismissed from the Tourist Police Force.
Now, being under arrest, he awaits disciplinary action, whatever that is.
Maybe a hefty fine paid to his superiors will be sufficient disciplinary action.
-
The probe is intended to discover if more police officers are involved as accomplices.
I eagerly await the results of said probe. More than probable will be fruitless and we will hear nothing more of the matter.

Trust they give the locals a bit of warning so they can properly organise their whistle blowing welcome.
The people in the south's MO aint blowing whistles. It's blowing things up.
They might well solve the problem for the benefit of Thailand.

I am sure there are people down there thinking exactly that.

PTP really wants to bring this country to its knees.

Time to ready the foriegn cash reserves to buy the baht when the ar$e falls out of it like in 1997.
That's not likely to happen. They are in a much better position this time around.
But are they? I personally believe that the deficits that the government has owned up to from their various populist policies will prove to be merely the tip of the iceberg. When they are finally ousted and an audit of their time in office is carried out, the final bill may prove to be ruinous for this country.
Right !

The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China, where they were invented. The heavy Chinese influence and cultural ties with Thailand, especially in the north, would be a possible reason for Thai facination with fireworks. That said, as a young lad I was quite facinated by them also. And I have no ties to China.
As for why so at the " wee hours ". One word.. Alcohol
They were still at it a 5am this morning as I rose to get ready for work.

"Each year Thailand gets a lot of revenue from the tourism industry - but the government has never used money from this industry to develop and support tourism," she said.
This sounds like a personal problem of the government. Definately not the fault or doing of foriegn tourists. Where is this revenue being employed? In corrupt politician's pockets that is where.
"We want good tourists to visit Thailand - not the [type of tourist] who does not want to enter because he or she has to pay Bt500 as an entrance fee," Pradit said.- 1

Maybe they plan on ciphering it off out of the two trillion baht they are trying to borrow for the government's infrastructure mega projects. It is a shame that, that bill also seems to be dead in the water. They may find themselves waiting a little longer that 45 days for payment.
