  1. "people driving on the wrong side of the road, without lights, without drivers license, without helmet, police collecting money like buying eggs at the market from the above motorbike drivers."

These are the reasons I love Thailand; the fact you can pretty much do what you want. Many people are tired of the 'Nanny State', I'm a libertarian, it's innate within me. Try living in Europe for 365 days!!

If you are a farang, you just wait and see what happens to you if you cause a problem. You will cry for your nanny states help, OR here. sad.png

  2. A lesson for all reading here. Switch OFF the main breaker before doing ANY electrical stuff here, no matter how small or big the appliance.

    RIP brother. Trans

You are right, of course. But doing that is not foolproof. Not here. The main switch may have been overridden by one of the qualified technicians claiming to be electricians. I have seen it.

Me toooooooo, in my place. sad.png

    RIP brother. Trans

A lesson from the OP, is to

He was warned by his wife not to enter and wait for a qualified technician to arrive.

Rest in Peace Mr. Timothy Jackson wai.gif

My place is safe YET my mrs mum will not take a shower, goes to the garden for a wash down. FEAR of death from electrics.
  4. This isn't shocking news with the quality of some of the electrics in these places.

    RIP.

Well, it is "shocking" in the sense that this poor man was electrocuted to death. Working with electricity without the proper knowledge or safety equipment can have deadly consequences! Most of the "electricians" here lack proper training, or simply don't care enough to do a safe and proper job. You can't be too cautious when dealing with electricity!

How to you know that MOST electricians here lack proper training or don't care. Are you making this up or do you have real evidence. If you have real evidence, then please share. Otherwise, don't make comments that you can't back up. I've used electricians twice here and they both knew what they were doing. Both very professional.

You were lucky. My place l wanted earthed 3 pin plugs, they laughed. sad.png

Many farang do not understand the ins and outs of electricity so please don't slag off others for lack of knowledge of a trade. rolleyes.gif

  5. Yeah, I can relate. I fear severe poverty more than death. I wouldn't last a day on the streets.

In my case, I haven't worked for pushing ten years now, and I thought I'd be richer at this point than I actually am. What hit me wasn't so much inflation or personal events, but the BAD luck of the TIMING of when I stopped working. (Market meltdowns.)

What about the expense of eating out so often?

Or his new fridge. huh.png (Why do l remember that stuff, l was hopeless at history)laugh.png

  6. Everyone here has a lot to say about the "poor electrical work in Thailand" but all of them have overlooked the fact that it is THEIR responsibility to ensure that THEIR house or THEIR premises are safe. Not to mention that all the posters here seem to be very knowledgeable when it come to (after the fact) electrics - yet NOT ONE has mentioned the one inexpensive little device that could have saved ALL of those lives. It's called an Earth Leakage Relay - or a Residual Current Device. Look it up - and if you don't have one installed, then install one immediately. Before we have to type in yet another RIP!

Some, the deceased, may not have had a clue about electrics. The fitters of the stuff should have, BUT they don't. sad.png
  7. I am happily retired here and if I have a day of doing nothing because I can.......do I feel guilty?......nope!

If I get the urge to get mobile and cut some grass, I do because I can, not because I have to. It is a whole different mindset this retirement stuff.......I love it.

Have to agree, except I do feel vaguely guilty when I take a day off to do nothing and, I've no intention of buying one of those awful industrial sized 'trimmers' and standing out in the sun cutting the grass! Fortunately for me, there are local, working people that are happy to do this for me.

  8. No mention of Brazil? hot all year round, the women are fantastic, weird it wasn't on your short list.

Why would you go somewhere where it was hot all year round? Some of us might not be sex tourists, and not really bothered about the women in our holiday destinations (speculation on my part, I know, but it is possible; perhaps we should ask Eek or Phuturatica...)

I'm looking forward to a bit of a change for the weather, to be honest.

    SC

Since when was I talking to you? I was talking to the OP, not that I need to justify myself to a brain dead narcissist as yourself, the OP did say he was looking for a place that was HOT all year round and HE! mentioned the women, and secondly why are you even mentioning the sex trade in this? show the size of your peanut brain inside that rock hard head of yours, many PEOPLE like to travel and admire the locals, women do it all the time too, since when does that make someone a sex tourist? now pull your fat head out of your ass and get a life. Honestly some people on here make me cringe in disgust to the point it makes me physically ill after reading some the garbage they post.

Your ridiculous comment made me go back and recommend SCs!

Mr. West is everywhere on the forum but he says he doesn't look. laugh.png
  9. No not really, I thought it would be at first, and after seeing how many abhorrent sociopaths live on here, which is a good reason to keep me away, so now I just come to read the news and on occasion to ask genuine questions, seeking genuine answers, not some morons' negative and twisted point of view.

We know if your looking you know. huh.png Yes we do. .........................w00t.gif

  10. I just signed up to thaiVisa, Oswald was a kind and generous fellow, things are beign followed up by his friends here. In the meantime perhaps it is best if we focus on RIP for him and his family instead of ametuer sleuthing and off topic discussions of tourist deaths in thailand.

There is a man and family behind this story and he will be greatly missed.

    Yes Sir.
