  1. As mentioned, unless you are really lucky, some are, 2 years is the norm, even from a factory equipped unit. If you can, we have talked about Boliden dry cell battery to be the best and last a lot longer. :)

PS. just to check, put a volt meter across the battery with engine off for a reading then start her up, the reading should go from around 12.5 up to 13.5/14 volts when started. This is to check that the alternator is functioning, not the batteries amp power.

  2. Interesting read this AM over my glass of OJ.

Are we making any progress? 7 pages in and looks quite A1 typical TV thread normal. Of course "Normal" being subjective. Its down to a battle of about 4 or 5 regular multi thousand posters. It should fizzle quite soon as they will tire of themselves but they definitely padded their post numbers.

    Next thread please...........

That reads like you are the OP. :D

  3. I haven't seen TV poster "BEENTHEREDONETHAT" in awhile. If my memory doesn't fail me he mentioned he was 75, and that may have been a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed his posts and I sure hope he's still around somewhere.

Your memory is excellent, two years ago I was 75 and now 77 and going strong. Haven't posted much as the wife 68 (don't tell her I told you that) and I have been doing a lot of traveling this year and I don't carry a computer when I travel and dislike internet cafes so that is the reason you haven't heard from me much.

In looking at the internet we found that some of the prices on property in the US is half of what it was in 2008 so we took a trip there and found a townhouse in north Idaho that we really liked and ended up buying it. we plan to spend our summers there and the winter in Cha Am. So we are out of here next month and will be busy furnishing our townhouse and enjoying sane traffic.

We also considered getting a place in Australia on the Gold Coast, in fact we got 10 year visa's so we could do that. But when we got there and checked things out we decided that Australia was way more expensive to live than the US, and their medical insurance is very expensive and covers very little. It has really changed a lot in the five years we have been gone. But the banks are friendly to deal with and pay very good interest on term deposits.

But on the original question I'm 77 and really enjoying life, things are going good and I look forward to every day. My mother reach 96 and was in great shape until the end so I see no reason I can't do the same or a bit better.

One of the first things I will do in the US is get a computer and hook up to the internet so we will still be in touch and keep up with what is happening here.

    Nice one. :)

  4. While all us farang are having a whinge, it's worth mentioning that u will hear many similar stories from hard working honest Thais.

Abundant natural resources (now depleted) have been followed by a heap of farang and their money.

That sounds like the makings of a good sob story, but could you flesh it out a little bit? That is to say, what the hell are you talking about? More details please. TIA :jap:

    Must agree.

Thought farang money saved many Thai people from disaster . :)

  5. Just an enquiry, if you had say 15 rai of rubber trees that you paid people to work, can it make money ?. Think must include a % going missing in the figures.

Depending on tree condition, good bad tappers and you making RSS. No reason you would not make 1200 trees X 5 kilos a year at $5 US a kilo. 6000 kilos or $30, 000 US worth of rubber a year, minus costs about 50 plus %. Should have 10 grand in your pocket. Jim

    Cool. :)

  6. Yep, thx Trans, this has to be the answer and it's the same conclusion that I reached earlier today so I've decided 2 things, re-tile my patio in slate grey colour and to park my motor overnight on a 45 degree angle :D

On a poss note, I called into mitsu again today as my rear light cluster was very wet...inside! to their credit they replaced the unit within 15 minutes.

On a neg note, i mentioned to the mitsu 'salesman' that i checked my tyre pressures following the 1000km service there and found all 4 had a whacking 47 psi instead of the 29 (front)...he just shrugged & smiled!

Makes one wonder on a service what else they do wrong if they can't get a simple thing like tyre pressures correct, after all it's an important safety adjustment on their check list to take care of driver/passengers. :(

  7. B&D hover and a 3500bht no name one. Crap.

My chum the same. He also bought a Thai made petrol with drive for l think 9000bht which didn't last much longer, in fact everywhere l went offered no guarantee . So l bought a Honda powered mower where the motor has 1 year guarantee but not the rest of it , and yep, the handle sheared off. Welded some steel to reinforce it so now cool. BUT it has no drive so it's the only exercise l get.

  8. Change tires every two years on the wifes car and and the family car due to age more than any thing .

    Transam 50K 5555555

Check your tyre pressure and by good tires, if you are getting only 50k from a set on 4x4 and changing due to wear you are doing something wrong.

Or is it your 1000hp chip that is doing it

, With me it's two things on my ''mega'' chipped 4x4.

    1. Stop light drags, l know l am old enough to know better but can't break the long time habit :)..

    2. Run 35psi in the front. Which is what l want for the perfect ''feel'' for me. Must add that the fronts are not worn out in the middle, even wear across the tread.

Original factory tyres and probably could get another 10K out of them if l want to be tight. :D

  9. Ray with only the small amount of km you have on your vehicle shouldn't be any problem's just as a thought does it happen all the time when you park over night or when you or your wife wash the vehicle maybe spraying water up the exhaust then starting next morning will blow all the wet crap out.

Good point John, I've been wondering this myself as the problem only happens now & then (altho not just after washing or driving in rain)..maybe even a condensation build up?

Still seems odd to me that I haven't had this before in over 37 yrs of motoring..

Think l mentioned before about condensation in the rear box. Have you noticed when a box rusts out and falls apart, it's from the inside out, it's the water build up inside on some exhaust designs. You start up and it blows it out. If you do short runs you might not be clearing it out. :)

  10. You're going to get hosed by customs and the shipping cost will be well over $500 usd.

    It's not worth the hassle.

Search for a local shop that stocks your specific brand.

I use Bridgestone RE-11's but you are not going to get them in a 20 inch diameter, only a runflat that is specific to the Nissan GT-R are available from Bridgestone.

Go Hanook or Nitto make a great tyre called "INVO".

Such a quiet and soft ride in the 20 inch size, which is usually noisy and harsh ride.

    I recommend..jap.gif

Yeh, theres been some good input here about Hankook. :)
