Missing Canadian found dead at central Thailand railway station

The 1st thought that occurred to me after declaring, yesterday, that Thais have no work ethic forcing the country to rely on exploiting foreign workers. -
Illegal Immigrant Workers are Taking Over Thai Jobs in Tourist Areas
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I am 81 so no not now. In my 20s & 30s I held THREE jobs to ensure my children had a good life. My generalisation obviously excludes the exceptions but the general rule continues; ask any farang employer. -

He's been put on even more inactive duties. -
A crack down on police scamming tourists and Thais alike might benefit Thailand. I speak on the day the two most senior police officers have just been condemned to inactive duties by one of the Prime Ministers.

Illegal Immigrant Workers are Taking Over Thai Jobs in Tourist Areas
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thais have no work ethic; in fact little sense of ethics at all. There is not one area of Thai life free from corruption (check out the millions stolen by crooked monks in Korat). There is no sense of building a customer base by thoughtful service; they look no further than the immediate baht. There is over-reliance on restrictive practices like price-fixing cartels/monopolies. When farangs attempt to plug some of these gaps they cry foul.- 34 replies

Chonburi Immigration Busts Illegal Foreign Workers in Pattaya Area
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Raids like this usually occur just before month end so the Thai employers escape paying wages to the illegals. -
Man Killed in Fiery Car Crash in Pattaya on Motorway
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I totally agree. A Thai cop adjudged I was at fault whilst waiting to turn right when two tearaways ploughed into me at 90kph. This cost me just short of 90K. My then wife was extorted to the tune of 15K lest my visa became 'difficult'. My S-i-L had her car stolen; family members made a citizens' arrest & I helped drive the miscreant + cop + accusers to Jomtien where a fat cop refused to do anything without a 10K sweetener ((I was in the room at the time.) S-i-L continued to pay off her car loan for 4 more years despite having no car & the thief was never charged. During the intervening years when Pattaya cops were to be seen milking the public on Sukhumvit, I was regularly stopped (on 60% of my journeys) for the offence of driving whilst in possession of a white face. My favourite bar pays hush money for a 'music licence' despite having no sound system; I was present when the envelope (white not brown as is often reported;) was handed over. This has somewhat tarnished my view of the local Plod. 'The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing'. Or say nothing. -
Immigration Collaborates with Airlines to Enhance Passenger Experience
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agreed LAX was a scene of utter chaos when I took my Thai wife on holiday to US. A far worse scenario takes place at my home airport of Manchester UK. Arriving is no problem as I have a British passport. (I'm taking my Thai GF this year so watch this space.) The real problem is when leaving: my brother or daughter is charged 1 UKP per minute to say our goodbyes (aged 80+ maybe for the last time!) Then comes the squalor; lack of seating and unbelievably rude Security officials strutting their machismo stuff. I was harangued in broken English by a jumped-up Little Hitler for putting my bag on a conveyor belt without his permission. -
British and American men arrested for real estate violations
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I bought the house before I met my ex; in those days you had to have a variety (I think 3 or 5 Thai shareholders - usually working in the Audit company.) The rules tightened after I married & it seemed simpler to use my wife as a shareholder. -
British and American men arrested for real estate violations
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Did the company route : farang 49%; Thai (ex-wife) 48 + 3% in crooked audit office. They had me sign the normal 46 pages in Thai for the annual audit but on this occasion added a 47th which changed my wife's share to 50%. By this time we were separated & despite spending about half a million in legal fees, the Thai court awarded me 25% of house/cars/furniture. I'd happily accompany the police to the audit company which is close to Tesco Lotus' at Thepprasit. I've kept all the papers. -

There are lots of Thai Auditing companies doing this; and I mean LOTS. I'd be pleased to accompany the police to the offices where I was diddled out of my house.- 252 replies
