Ripley's 'victim' is a painter; they view a Caravaggio; their view is of stunning Italian coastline; it's difficult to tell if the Picasso on the wall is from his 'blue' period. There's a discussion about how hideous the colours of a dressing gown is. For all that it's riveting.

But why shoot it in Black & White? I am terrified neighbours will call round and think I don't have a colour TV. Only one episode in and find it very slow after 'Renegade Nell'. I just started 'A Gentleman in Moscow'. Ewan McGregor stars despite sporting the most ludicrous false moustache I've seen on TV!

Thai Tourists undeterred by Taiwan earthquakes for Songkran
mikebell replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Even the Thais are fleeing Songkran. I'd risk an earthquake to avoid Pattaya Waste-of-Water Festival. I went to Makro yesterday & can now withstand three weeks of famine and flood. -

Pita bids farewell to parliament, calls for cabinet reshuffle
mikebell replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Agree 100%. Going back nearly 20 years I remember a Thai politician urging Thai women to marry farangs. They rarely stoop to the violence dished out by Thai men; nor do they flee in the face of morning sickness. There are two more teaching graduates thanks to my intervention + every year at least 3 of my friends and family add to the tourist numbers. Malaysia seems to understand the value of ex-pats. -

NACC probes “tea money” demands to get children into Khon Kaen schools
mikebell replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Getting a job as a teacher in some schools is also dependent on tea-money; my step-daughter couldn't afford the 300,000 demanded by the unprincipled principal.
