But don't you think the Thais won't do anything, unless it impacted their incomes?  The fact that Thailand is an established pedo destination suggests that Thailand simply doesn't care about its children and youth.  I would bet that if the USA/UK/Australia/EU advised its citizens not to visit a pedo playground, then Thais would really do something productive.

I visited in 1998, and there were tons of kids for sale.  The steps where the old Robinsons was next to Lumphini would have dozens of youngsters sitting there.  Kids with single digit ages.  Taxis would swing by, a finger pointing to who was wanted and they would join the cab.  Tons of big German guys walking hand in hand in Pattaya with single digit aged boys - it was blatant and obviously Thais didn't care.  But right around that time there were several special news reports like Nightline that 'exposed' what was going on.  So by the time I moved here in 93 it was all swept away...probably mostly underground, I don't know.

I've been vacationing in Thailand mostly Pattaya since 2008. Up and down walking street, bars, beach road etc. Never seen a child for sale, never been offered. If it was a problem all the little kids selling trinkets in the bars would be seen disappearing to short time rooms now and then. Sometimes I think this is just made up to keep donations rolling in to NGOs. The occasional bloke arrested with a girl 17 yrs 11 months and 29 days old keeps this old tale alive though.

Cash Cow Organizations like World Vision define a 'child' as someone 25 years old or younger.  Makes their reports quite spicy!

One of the younger newer medical doctors doing cures on T2 diabetes referred to the old standards as "Doctor assisted suicide."   Unfortunately, the medical profession only changes course generationally.  Despite the evidence regarding smoking and lung cancer first appearing on the horizon in the 1930's less than 30% of doctors were advising patients to stop smoking as late as the 1960's.

If you are suffering from T2 diabetes you really have to dig up a good doctor and find a program that works.  This is difficult.

I was at the pre-hypertension phase and they were saying I needed to get weight off or start looking at medication, I really didn't know anything about that so educated myself.  Lost weight, insulin resistance, and am in a normal range now.  Still want to lose more weight, but my scores are good.  Doctor said good work, didn't ask how I lost weight, so I didn't tell him it was through extra bacon and no toast :)

You are 100% right!  However, It is not that Americans are looking for the easy way and the pills and the operations.  They are NOT EVER given any other options.   In the US doctors are not allowed to prescribe exercise or diet and the vast majority do not even try to give good advice.   They need to get to the next patient.  The US doctor starts with your diagnosis and then prescribes a treatment.  They do not tell you why you are sick!  And they do not make any lifestyle recommendations that might alleviate your medical problem.

It is almost impossible to get a doctor to work with you on lowering blood pressure or diabetes medications.   They are not trained to do that and don't want to get into that type of treatment as it is NOT approved by the AMA.  In fact, some will violently right in huge letters that you are refusing treatment on your medical file.  They think you are trying to draw them into a lawsuit for medical malpractice.   If the doctor insist you take the drugs or get the surgery he has done his job.  He is within the legal requirements necessary for his profession.

We really need to rethink this carefully.

Medical Practitioners get a minimal amount of nutrition education.  It is a shame.  Some are open to things like keto, most will spout off what the ADA or AMA say.  For T2 diabetic the ADA recommends a diet with somewhere between 240-300 carbs a day.  Outrageous!  A recommended breakfast was a six ounce glass of orange juice, two pieces of whole wheat bread with margarine, one poached egg, and some extra fruit like grapes or apple.  Jesus.

  5. I just figured out black soybeans have 16 carbs per cup, 14 of which are fiber and 2 sugar.  So very low carb.  I've been experimenting with them and I don't leave ketosis (still have the keto buzz, you know what I'm talking about).  You can get them in the dry bean section, where the Thai beans and seeds are...I get mine from foodland.  Careful not to get other kinds of beans or non black soybeans, those have a  lot of carbs (non fiber carbs).

They cook quickly, just boil them for about 30 minutes and they are done.  Drain the water keep in the fridge for a couple days while you use them.  I made some chile con carne (just a couple servings worth) and added a half cup of the beans to it....fabulous.  Also I made some refried beans and they are pretty darn good.  They can stay a little crunchy, but if after you boil them you let them set overnight int he fridge they soften up more.  One person says to freeze them and when they thaw they will be creamy like regular beans.

Some people warn about soy, I won't be having these every day, but treat them like a cheat meal type thing, though I'm not cheating at all, it just feels like I am.  Villa has those low carb tortillas that have 4 net carbs each I think - they are big and are a little fibery in a slightly strange way but not bad.  I usually don't eat them, but freeze them and thaw one out when I want it.

Try 'em out!  I bought two bags for about 75 Baht, That'll be enough for me for a long time.

I chop them up with a pair of scissors if it calls for rice and leave them whole for spaghetti.

Haha I do the same scissors trick.  Then cook them till they are much drier and a little shrunken, add some meat, and a tablespoon of tomato paste and some italian herbs.  Drizzle just a bit of olive oli and sprinkle of sea salt to finish.  They are pretty good!  Except for that throat thing.

  7. I like them once in a while but it's weird, the day after I eat them I feel like there's something stuck in my throat.  Don't know what that is about!

Much better to make zoodles!  Thinly slice zucchini or peel it with a potato peeler, then blanch it.  Makes great noodles, low carb, and I suppose healthier than the shirataki.  Also cubed zuke sauteed with some meat is great - let it cook long enough and it gets nice and firm like potato almost, except without the glycemic load.

Actually 20 - 25 years ago it was much worse, many businessmen and rich /  self important folks had bars of flashing lights fitted across the roofs of their cars and many also with loud speaker systems fitted.

No approval to fit the lights and speakers, they turned them on whenever they felt like it and forced / intimidated their way through the traffic and the police too frightened to stop them.

You still see this (the flashing lights anyway) every once in a while.  A couple of years ago it started getting popular again but they cracked down.  But they are still out there.

The revamped Pantip is a busted flush I'm afraid.

A poor runner-up to other IT malls such as Fortune which along with the IT stuff has other interesting shops. Panthip is clinging on to a reputation it no longer deserves.

Still, we'll always have the Loso song to bring back memories of the old place, with its fantastic food court and the old khao soi woman.

Yeah that food court was good!

  10. Stuck again today for over 40 minutes waiting for the VIPos to go by. Seems to happen at least once a week where thousands and thousands of commuters just trying to get to work have to wait for an hour for some idiot. For Christ sake just put them on a helicopter and fly them where they need to go, and let us commoners use the road and get to work on time. I suppose if they did a cost analysis of how much time people are missing at work compared to these idiots that need to have the road all for themselves it would be pretty amazing.

  11. Sounds like a great way for the government to make a lot of money via these "driving schools". Hopefully it will create better drivers, though the yahoos on the road that I encounter every day taking so many risks by driving crazy on the road probably will not decrease in number. I actually think a majority of Thai drivers are pretty good, there's just about 10% of them that have no regard for anyone else but their own fun.

Today I have cycled 25Km (including a very steep hill), 10 push ups and 20 sit ups.

I have eaten 1 7-11 grilled ham and cheese sandwich and 1 banana and chocolate smoothie.

I might have a bowl of 'Great Grains Banana nut crunch' with milk later.

I think today is going to be a net weight loss day.

No nutrition in a meal like that.  Just a bunch of empty carbs (except for the splooge of processed cheese food, which might have something in it that is redeeming, certainly wasn't real cheese though.  And processed nitrated ham.)

All of this bickering is ridiculous.

The lot of you could ruin a wet dream.

you guys have degenerated to the point that you chastise someone for the claim that eating less helps lose weight?

Maybe its time to get your nose out of your books and go exercise.

I find it a great discussion.  If the science is too much for you and a healthy debate is not to your liking you don't have to join in with your poopy talk!
