  1. It's a very different virus that's circulating now compared to late 2019 until Omicron emerged.
  2. Interesting I guess. It would be more interesting if they broke it down by the most prevelant variant at the time of death. I know there was a mixture going around but I suspect that kind of date sepration would likely show that the Delta variant caused by far the most problems and the deaths dropped off a cliff since the 'new' Omicron variant emerged from nowhere even though it's most recent common ancestor was very old, it didn't evolve from Delta, there was no trace of Delta in it at all - quite odd.....
  3. Ok, but did he not feel any other symptoms of heart attack? Like chest pain, arm pain, etc, etc.
  4. Indeed, and based on their level of language skills I think we might be able to establish if some of them are native Thais.
  5. Don't worry, you have until well inside 2025 before you actually need to pay up
  6. I really wonder how good their Thai was, was it perfect?
  7. Of course not, they're not stupid. This gift thing is obviously related to money that's already been taxed inside the country. If you send 10 million to your girlfriend she will have to pay tax on it, the same as you would if you send it to your own bank account. Assuming the money is already untaxed elsewhere of course.
  8. Striving to become as busy as 2019 is admirable but I can remember that there had been a steep decline in tourism around these parts each year BEFORE 2019. So 2019 was not very good
  9. I just wondered if it's illegal because I genuinely didn't know, apparently it is. Which means he's in a world of trouble.
  10. Well there you go - it protected his trees and he did it deliberately. Is this kind of behaviour illegal?
  11. This kind of pressure is created by the huge online shopping behemoths like Shopee Suddenly there's a shift in business from one courier to another and they have double the business they had the week before - with the same number of staff. I've seen it here in Hua Hin, which is a smaller place and they do seem to be handling it at the moment However about a month ago franchises of J&T seemed to get at least partially ditched by Shopee, one of the alternatives is Flash. Growing a company too fast often ends badly.
  12. I think pretty much everyone see it this way. But if the rule changes on Jan 1, 2024 and of course nobody submits a tax return before Jan 1, 2024 then this rule would supposedly be in force before the tax return is due - just something to think about as we remember that it's all about how they interpret it. So when they say Jan 1, 2024 - could they be talking about the tax return due between Jan 1 and the end of March 2024?
  13. I'll bet that you can and they will be rewarded with a tax bill exactly the same as you would.
  14. This is for the UK from here but widely known : https://www.bdo.co.uk/en-gb/insights/tax/private-client/leaving-the-uk To summarise - if you don't go to the UK then you're automatically non resident if you spend less than 15 days per year there or 45 in a 3 year period. For me, I've spend about 1 week there in the last 15 years and that was about 10 years ago. You still have to pay tax on UK earnings though even as a non resident - for example - if you're renting some houses out, etc. Edit: I don't think this is a new thing since the UK left the EU but I'm not sure.
  15. I am working on the assumption that this gift money would have to be already taxed as income inside Thailand and can't be gifted directly from some foreign bank account where you keep all your untaxed gains, do I have that right?
  16. Even the O&G guys? There's quite a few of them and they only live here for one reason - no tax
  17. I'm confused, did one of the victims die or not?
  18. VAT will inevitably go up, which government does it is up for debate. They're in the debt building stage now though and it's all borrowed money.
  19. What is flu medication? Are we talking antivirals like Tamiflu or just remedies?
  20. What? How? Why? What did he do before he was 33?
  21. How long until they begin offering discounted packages again? 6 Months? 1 Year? I doubt it will make it to 1 year without introducing new cut price packages due to them selling none.
  22. Age related allowances might come into play here which is why I questioned it. The older you are, the less you pay, apparently.
  23. I just entered a monthly amount into the UOB calculator which is available here UOB tax calculator : https://www.uobam.co.th/en/tax-calculation Maybe there's some allowances I missed but we're like 45/50 years old so I doubt there's much.
