Well they're lying to you, it's as simple as that. You're dealing with a moron at that branch. I was once asked for a work permit when I went to order an internet connection, I told her that was nonsense, work permits are for working - and to go and get the manager. The manager came and suddenly a work permit wasn't required. The trick is to get past the first line of idiots and hope whoever else they send is a little smarter.

Getting a 'restaurant license' is as simple as filling out a form at the local government office and paying the fee which as far as I'm aware is about 600 Baht. They will then come out and do an inspection at some point in the future. The alcohol license is completely separate from a restaurant license and is also normally a mere formality to obtain. I have read on this forum that they're not going to renew alcohol licenses in Pattaya when they all expire on December 31. Not sure how accurate this is but it's definitely on this forum somewhere.

He's right, no alcohol = nobody's coming. Far easier to just go elsewhere and enjoy a bottle of wine or a few beers in the evening, or even on the beach in the afternoon if you're so inclined.- 162 replies

That's exactly what it is. It's going to be hilarious when they realise nobody cares even a tiny bit about the country, and why should they, after all it's just a holiday. No beer = no tourists, it's as simple as that. I'm just wondering which country in this warm part of the world will take all their business.
