Regrettably any transfer from overseas is never going to be guaranteed to arrive urgently. It is usually coming within seconds if not too big (too big is always a variable) from the right source to the right source. if you need to guarantee the best possible outcome then transferring bank to bank (preferably within the same bank) in Thailand has the highest chance of success. other than that the method with a virtual guarantee is handing cash in person,

One of the Partners in Forvis Mazars asked exactly that question to the head of the TRD and his colleagues. The answer is that, in the current state of the law, if you remit a gain that was realised while you are tax resident (all this of course post 1.1.2024) your status of tax residency when remitted is irrelevant as the gain is always assessable. The Forvis Mazars partner found this answer very difficult to believe and so made absolutely sure that it was correct the TRD officers confirmed that indeed his answer was current interpretation of the law. TLDR an assessable gain while tax resident when remitted to Thailand is always assessable irrespective of your tax residency status when received in Thailand. DO note TIT and such set in stone policies and laws are subject to changes if the right people with the right influence put their minds to change. So it set in stone, until it isn’t.

Apple Ipad swipe gesture ...go back
sometimewoodworker replied to Kenny202's topic in Apple Products
If you have the dictation function activated (I almost never do) then it will translate all spoken words to text. The only specific word/phrase that is responded to is Hey Siri or Siri However if you go into Accessibility, voice control, commands there are a plethora of commands you can switch on or off. Personally I have never invested the time to bother with those as the standard interface is easier for me to interact with, but as you seem to find voice control a good option then you need to spend some quality time to personalise the interface to you Personally the navigation functions are so easy to use I never navigate using spoken commands. -
Apple Ipad swipe gesture ...go back
sometimewoodworker replied to Kenny202's topic in Apple Products
You just found the speech to text function, it is really quite accurate and will let you dictate almost all of your text instead of typing it. I’ve been using Apple products for so long I find it hard to swap to dictation despite the hate I have for typing and that I am a single finger typeset even on my iPad. virtually all on screen keyboards have a mike button. -
For me the process is request the transfer from Wise to a pre saved SCB account, they ask from where I select my pre saved RBS account. wise transfers me to RBS where I authorise the amount pre determined go through the RBS security and I am returned to Wise who have already received the RBS transfer and requested the transfer in Thailand. Since I have filled in the required information to allow wise to request a transfer from RBS previously I only fill in the amount once in Wise and just check the amount and click which RBS account to pull from. This process and the U.K. banking process makes everything extremely fast and secure. I suspect that my transfer is a couple of seconds faster than @Chivas as I have fewer steps. I used to do it his way but now let Wise fill in the amount. But they are both secure and fast

Your experience and conclusions are totally independent of mine. My last 2 transactions of £2,300 and again £4,500 both within the last month arrived in less than 60 seconds from initiating the transfer pulling from my U.K. bank (RBoS) initiated by Wise to arrival in the Thailand bank (SCB) Previously it took quite a time, up to 3~5 days

As @Crossy said but to be more insistent. It is extremely unlikely that you will have a lightning protection system that will negate a near or close high energy strike. It is certainly possible to do the work and spend the significant price to virtually stop damage from even a direct hit. However the work is significant and the costs run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. So the costs of a few replacements lamps and electrical items is insignificant related to the cost of protecting them. Lightning strikes are not common enough for most people to want to spend that kind of money. if you are in a high risk area, like some Japanese golf courses, then you take precautions, they have lightning protection bunkers on the courses. Or if you are outside then you need to understand how not to be a target (regrettably one of our villagers didn’t do that a year or two ago with a deadly result) So far my minimal precautions have resulted in zero damage to anything I own for over 70 years. Luck? Maybe. The results of being sensible? Possibly. If I get any damage then the amounts of money I haven’t spent over the years are more than enough to cover the costs

Are phones with Telecom branding locked?
sometimewoodworker replied to Hal65's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
I should have marked the forum read, but it was and is a true comment -
When was that important in this thread? Do try to actually learn to read what you wrote and follow the thought process involved in your post. If you do that the answer to your question becomes obvious. You should actually follow that advice yourself, as a forum user since before Sir Tim even had his idea I am able to both chew gum and walk downstairs, a concept you seem totally unable to follow However . Are phones with Telecom branding locked?
sometimewoodworker replied to Hal65's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
There you are wrong. As long as you want a data plan and you buy it with your phone and you want the colour that is available you can get a very significant discount iPhone 16 pro max over ฿6,000, iPhone 15 ฿12,000, iPhone 14 ฿12,000 so discounts are around though you have to want the data plan that gives you that discount along with wanting the colour and memory that is available -
Neither of my iPhones, both purchased from the online store, required an activation step, however they were both unlocked and the activation could have happened in the background. This is different if you have a carrier locked phone. I have a Japanese locked phone and that one is only used as a iPod, no phone functionality available and the unlock for a Japanese one is problematic iffy and not worth bothering with.

Extraordinarily unlikely unless you request a printout of each individual transaction. Though it would be useful if you didn’t obfuscate your words so much. There are quite a number of countries ending in “stan” from Afghan to Uzbek AFIK you have to be on a non resident visa/extension to apply in Thailand. Also you need to ask for clarification of exactly what is required, in what format, from whom, and the requirements for authentication of the documents. It is extremely unlikely that they are requesting the individual transfer documents as that by itself will be a couple of thousand baht in bank fees

Yes, I have unlimited! I prefer my plan, at a little over 4,000 per annum for 2 devices with the same number
-
No, I don´t! It´s well known that who ever wish, can use the name/title authorized for what they wish to use it for. It means totally nothing. End of! You are displaying your ignorance of the Apple ecosystem. Just because in your opinion it has no meaning doesn’t make it true. Apple have given it a definite meaning with their use to describe their contracted resellers. So in that context it has a definite meaning, that you don’t accept that or can’t understand that just shows you lack of knowledge.
-
You probably have a data limit that is much larger than mine, for me my data limit is set for using WiFi for the vast majority of my use. It has a definite meaning in relation to the Apple ecosystem. You seem to have an idiosyncratic view of vocabulary. Some models are at less than the Apple retail price from some phone companies.
-
While it’s not very likely, the risk is still there. If you think that just connecting to an unknown WiFi network is safe that just shows your lack of knowledge. And any WiFi network that you do not have absolute control over is by definition unknown. TLDR Safe? Probably. Definitely safe? No. The question should not be am I paranoid? It should be, am I paranoid enough?

They can do that. BUT and it’s a big but they can’t get onto the Apple website, and it’s the Apple website that is confirming that they are Authorised Resellers

insulation - roll up shutter door - critique my plan?
sometimewoodworker replied to gamb00ler's topic in DIY Forum
They are virtually the same product, the space blanket is probably stronger and, by area, 10 to 100 times the price. -
That is great service if you actually want them to do it. Personally I do the setup for both my and SWMBO’s devices myself. my phones I get direct from Apple online for SWMBO we got it from studio 7 because it was the fastest way, could use her aunts credit card for the zero % 10 month payment plan and got a screen protector installed by the store, she does rather like the iPhone 16 Pro Max
-
You probably mean an iPad Air as there is no iPhone air and an iPhone 5 would be at least 11 years old and worth almost nothing
-
Absolutely 100% Apple Authorised Resellers all you need to do is search on apple’s website for local suppliers and they will give you a list of nearby resellers, some are premium resellers

Filtrete air con filters -- I've been doing it wrong?
sometimewoodworker replied to wpcoe's topic in DIY Forum
You either want some very specific version or can’t use the Lazada search function (hint “Filtrete”) there are multiple suppliers and I have bought from one of them a few years ago as I posted. -
You should do the job to do a good job, if you spray the roof with sodium hypochlorite first you will use much more than is needed and there is no guarantee that it’s going to actually get to the roots, but if you want to go against the standard practice feel free to do it your way. All commercial sprayers use metal fittings even if you use downstream injection you can avoid most contact but there will be some so washing your equipment is good practice. You can soft wash if you want but even then the spray tip is metal. If you actually read the studies you will find that it is far from proven safe a levels required for treatment and is long lasting. However that is not true of sodium hypochlorite that has been studied in depth and very extensively due to its use in swimming pools and was first used in the 18th century. sodium hypochlorite Is the prime chemical used in the USA not Benzalkonium chloride and their use dwarfs the European use case, so it’s only those who are restricted in their thinking who believe BK is superior to SH. They both have uses but SH has a rather longer pedigree. Neither is safe if used carelessly.
-
That is exactly the wrong order of cleaning. You should do the first pass with water to get as much dirt and debris of the roof first. Then you add sodium hypochlorite with a surfactant (DO NOT USE DISH SOAP unless you want to create a nasty poison gas, read the instructions on your detergent to see if it is safe to mix with bleach, many are not) Doing it this way reduces the amount of bleach you need. Get your bleach from a pool supply company, it’s cheaper and stronger. Do not believe the myth that bleach will not kill your plants, the only time it doesn’t is if it is so dilute as to be almost pure water. How do you think the bleach can kill off moss and algae on the roof but not kill your garden plants?
