  1. IMO the militia they wanted was to keep the government from becoming like the one they overthrew, not one to protect from foreign invaders. Perhaps they understood the meaning of "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely".
  2. I doubt they could even imagine fully auto weapons in 1791.
  3. While I agree with most of your post, food can be grown along with solar panels, so it's not an either or situation.
  4. According to the article I saw on Al Jazeera, Germany will be using coal to produce power instead of the nuclear power- I couldn't make this up. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/energy-environment/wind-farm-destroyed-converted-coal-mine German energy company RWE is defending its decision to expand its Garzweiler coal mine in and around the small town of Lutzerath, despite it appearing to be “paradoxical.”
  5. I hope Harris agrees to be his VP pick so that when, I hope, he fails to get elected she is gone as well. I have this recurring image of her getting to be POTUS by default- the horror, the horror!
  6. The best weapon for home protection is a shotgun, IMO. Don't even have to take time to aim. Second best would be a handgun. Fear is probably why so many have weapons in the US, and I'm sure the media are doing all they can to make people fearful, with all the stories about crime.
  7. In case someone tried a home invasion on me. Same reason I used to have a shotgun. No desire to walk around armed in public.
  8. I tried twice, which was once too many. I did learn that lesson.
  9. My first job I was only allowed a couple of inches in the bath to save power heating the water. The boss wasn't poor, but he and his wife lived through the great depression and it changed them to be very frugal.
  10. Golly, but that name brings back memories! I used to have a stalker that kept getting banned and coming back as someone else. I think he died or something as did stop eventually.
  11. LOL. I used to shower at the hospital, and I didn't even have to pay the water bill.
  12. The rich didn't get rich by being generous.
  13. Didn't take long for someone to insult bar girls.
  14. Are they actually religious? Do they attend church services, and tithe? Do they only have one coat? Do they forgive those that sin against them? etc. If they don't, then they are not Christians in truth. other supporters of the 'wait for your reward' bunch To qualify in religion for heaven, one actually has to do something more than turn up at church occasionally, like being a good person. There is nothing reported about Jesus saying that simply being rich disqualified one, other than being "difficult" to enter heaven.
  15. I saw him on tv yesterday, and he looked positively ancient. Can't imagine why anyone would vote for him now.
  16. I'm sure actors used them in war movies as they looked identical. Probably easier to get than M16s.
  17. I have no problem with banning any modification that allows a civilian to own an auto or nearly auto rifle. I agree that a fully auto weapon has no place in any civil society. IMO they are a waste of ammunition even in a military situation, and we were never authorised to use the M16 in other than semi auto mode. One should never pull the trigger if one can't aim it at something.
  18. Also useful for killing criminals that try to attack one and one's family in one's home.
  19. Not at all. I never lived in the US, but I owned 3 weapons- 2 rifles and a shotgun. No longer though. If I lived in the US I'd have a lot more than that, including handguns, and lots of ammunition ready in magazines.
  20. Never held one but I understand the metal parts are all steel, and the rest is wood, which would make it heavy, The M16, which I have used extensively, is very light. The AR 15 is basically an M16 without auto.
  21. From the BBC article, and is rubbish. A semi auto can only fire as often as one can pull the trigger, so not many per second at all. Professor Metzl, for his part, said that the simplicity of the weapon that makes it a favourite of enthusiasts also makes it a preferred option for would-be mass murderers. "If you're trying to kill a lot of people. They're just very effective. You can fire that many bullets per second and at that velocity, it's a perfect killing machine," he said.
  22. Other than random chance safer than London or Auckland IMO. I've never actually heard of a farang being "mugged" anywhere in LOS. Certainly not without cause.
  23. I had a couple of friends for over 25 years each, but they both "changed" and are very much ex friends now. As for the OP, perhaps a trip to an isolated beach somewhere might have been in order for the rest of his trip. He could have got as p*****d as much as he liked and not upset anyone. Doesn't sound like he was interested in sight seeing anyway.
  24. Still needs insulation in the cavity. The ones I saw being built used polystyrene panels.
  25. Yes, right across the back of the house, but you could have a passage to outside at the side of the house. Why have a smaller bedroom just for access to outside at back when you have 2 meter access on side of the house? You could also put in a ranch slider for access direct from bedroom to pool, which would also give more natural light in the bedroom. Passage doesn't have to be between master and bedroom- could be between ensuite bathroom and next bathroom Sorry, don't have a scanner to be able to attach a decent sketch, so this effort using paint is the best I can do in a short time.
