  1. From what I read it's not an infrastructure problem, but a lack of rain. Unfortunately for residents, Gaia cares not for the problems of a destructive species.
  2. It would be unusual for local government to "think" about anything except more ratepayers. Seems to be a pretty universal problem. I see no reason not to be cynical when I look at the people that rule us.
  3. IMO the entire human world is falling apart at a great rate of knots, it is claimed that climate change is going to destroy us in x number of years, inflation is ruining millions of lives, and we all face annihilation by nuclear war, so is this really a good time to be spending billions of tax payer $ on an expedition to Mars, or is it certain people's plan to establish a colony to escape to when the rest of us die in nuclear winter?
  4. Seriously? I've always known that it's sarcasm. The free dictionary agrees with me. My bolding. https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/couldn't+happen+to+a+nicer+guy couldn't happen to a nicer (person) Of an outcome, completely deserved by the person or people in question. Sometimes used sarcastically when referring to a negative event happening to an unpleasant person.
  5. What about those of us that don't like Trump as a person, but dislike the Dems even more, so want them out, even if it takes voting for Trump to do so?
  6. Hmmmm. I can understand covid being a problem, and Trump makes a convenient scapegoat to blame all bad things on, but perhaps you can explain how Putin is interfering with the US economy?
  7. Oh dear, not as secret as they hoped then.
  8. That is how it should be, but sadly for all of us unless a party gets to rule the chance of an individual getting anything done is slight. I'd like to see the end of parties altogether and all politicians standing as independents.
  9. Sadly I have to agree, though if he does stand and win I'll be as happy as a sand boy in a very big pile of sand.
  10. I disagree that that is a bad thing. IMO house prices should fall by a great deal, so ordinary people have a shot at owning a home without mortgaging their future. If people paid too much for theirs, that's down to them thinking nothing would change. Many have been aware that cheap loans would not last forever, but some thought they knew better, apparently. I doubt any government that wants to get re elected is going to tell the truth about a sagging economy, and Trump makes a convenient scapegoat, despite the economy apparently doing well on his watch.
  11. I think you meant "Trump and supporters would not be so angry about it all". If that's what you meant, it's not just about this specific case they are PO about. It's the continual persecution using the law to try and prevent him running again ( with no success so far ).
  12. As I see it, it's going to be rather hard to find an unbiased juror, which always leaves the possibility of an appeal succeeding. If it makes it to the Supreme Court, IMO Trump will be hoping for some gratitude from those he nominated. This case could be providing entertainment for years to come, which I guess will make CNN happy.
  13. Are there not phones that can only be used for emergencies to give kids? Times must have changed- when I was a kid my father just wouldn't have given us one and that would have been that.
  14. I inherited my mother's phone ( one of those ) but I hadn't realised that they were special. I don't know if it still works as haven't used it for many years. The first mobile I ever had was a second hand one from a friend that I paid 10 quid for. Dropped it and broke it shortly after- d...m! Now people just throw them away.
  15. That's so funny. Unfortunately it doesn't happen enough.
  16. Yes, but they could have built another "old one" and saved a bit of money for the craft that will be transporting the base to moon, when they get around to that. However, it's taxpayer money so no need to economise, perhaps. No need to invent new environmental systems either, given they have had a space station up there for ages.
  17. Strong? LOL. That will be decided by the jury, not Mr Bragg.
  18. He'd have done better investing some of that money into his rubbish train company. On the Virgin train I went on half the toilets were out of order and there were not enough even if they had been operational. On the service to catch the ferry to Ireland there were not even racks to put luggage on, and everything was just piled in a heap on the floor. The different rail company I used on return didn't have any of the problems of the Virgin disaster.
  19. Oh the irony. I'm lovin' it. Now perhaps they can find the evidence to arrest a few other political crooks that are still walking around.
  20. You're welcome. It's not like you can't go visit as often as you want.
  21. PS, I'm a country boy so I was initially happy to live in the village, and was planning to get into gardening big time, but events changed that and I just couldn't stay any more. It's not like the city where one can move a short distance given an abundance of housing. We ended up moving into a family house in Lamphun, which was OK, though I'd have preferred Pattaya, but for financial reasons not possible. So, in the end neither of us were happy with our situation, while we'd both been happy enough in Pattaya before.
  22. You sound like you know what you need to do, given your age, and I'm of the opinion that if it ain't broke, don't fix it ( ie, if she is happy to stay, why not do so? ). Good luck.
  23. I know that is not addressed to me, but for what I do windows 7 is far, far better than 10, which I loath, though I had no alternative when I had to buy another computer as I'm keeping the 7 for the things I need to do on it. Far as I'm concerned 10 is inferior to 7, so I'm certainly not going to change to 11. However I expect that vile company will do it's best to force us to change even if we have no need to do so.
  24. I added a bit to my post after you posted that. It has to be about what you want, for obvious reasons. I'm sure she wants to live there, as my wife did, but it was just not possible in the end and I was leaving with or without her.
  25. Would it not be better then to rent a place till you decide if YOU ( not your wife ) want to live there permanently? My wife had a cunning plan to get me to live in the village and support her there ( many hints about building a house for her ) and basically made it a fait accompli, but her plan fell apart when I decided I was not going to live there. I don't think she ever got over it. It would have been better if I had refused in the first place and just visited occasionally.
