You reckon they wouldn't know what a visa looks like?

When I had to carry passport it was in a money belt tucked inside my pants. Never carried a wallet as concerned about pickpockets, so had money belt on anyway when going to the city. Didn't cause me any problems.

Exactly. For those that don't go out of their way to cause trouble, the chance of being asked by a cop for a passport is very low. I had longer in LOS than yourself and never asked by a cop- only driving license.

Bus service between Jomtien and downtown Bangkok
thaibeachlovers replied to WaveHunter's topic in Pattaya
This may be shocking news for you, but it's not necessary to use a mobile device to get around Thailand. I never did for decades, yet I was able to travel over much of LOS, find hotels ( by looking ), use buses and trains and taxis, etc. I even did much of it before the internet existed for us. Have you considered that being dependent on a device is not really a good idea. Had it failed while you were traveling would you then have been unable to continue? -
UK faces biggest fall in living standards on record

Perhaps some would rather have a life than invest in the IMO gambling for rich people that is the stock market. -
The Guardian view on a demographic paradox: the rebirth of pronatalism

While the 50s were brilliant for western countries ( the rest of the world not so much ), western populations are aging. However, western countries should be able to use technology to overcome many of the associated problems, though it will probably require an influx of people from poor countries to do the jobs no one else wants to do, and that can cause problems too. Given that many western and some Asian women eg Sth Korean and Japanese, have realised ( quite understandably IMO ) that having lots of, or any babies is not what they want to do, the situation isn't going to change. -
China Covid: Shocking protests are huge challenge for China's leaders
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
Suppress too many people for too long and the result is usually unpleasant or unwanted for the suppressors. Eg French revolution, American revolution, Russian revolution, the current protests in Iran, and now apparently in China. One can only hope it's as unpleasant for Xi and his cronies as those in the past.- 19 replies

Why is the UK struggling more than other countries?
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
Seems too obvious for me to bother giving specifics other than the proliferation of American style ( and branded ) fast food outlets. Does Britain have no equivalent of maccers or BK? -
Thailand going cashless. Are you for or against it?
thaibeachlovers replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
LOL. What could go wrong with giving your phone number to every Tom Dick or Harry? Ever heard of hacking? What if the other person doesn't have a banking app? If people want to do that, OK, but why force everyone to do so? Is that a free society? Is that democracy? What happened to freedom of choice? Are bank profits and government control so important that we all have to become slaves of the system? Make no mistake, if we don't control our money , we don't control our lives. -

You refer to a tiny minority of the people on the planet, and superexponential growth is killing the environment we need to live in. IMO you ignore the effect of greed, which IMO is the motivation for the uber rich that have far more than they need, but want even more, and will never give it up willingly. -
When I can actually remember stuff I'm not too dull a tack myself, but I "dislike" ( being polite ) the modern age so much, I not only want to live in a different age, but in a different existence, such as those one can only see in movies. If "ying" is good and "yang" is bad, there has been far too much yang for my liking, not just now, but for my entire life, since I was able to understand such, and the yang is winning.

They are there to direct the passengers to their seat. Do you think they are trained psychologists that can evaluate a person passing by in about 30 seconds? -

Why should I? Accept what I said already or not, but why would I make it up? Up to you. Did I not say that I asked to move? I had to give a reason. He was by himself rest of flight so not flight attendant's problem. What would you expect them to do? I'm not, and the vast majority of people flying are not, so hitting someone in the face is only something that you would do. Then you would be in handcuffs the rest of the flight. -

I'm sure that you are aware that boosters can kill if heart is dodgy. I used cialis for about 6 years with no problem, and then I thought I was going to die on my last time, so never used again. My wife also thought I was in a serious condition, as she freaked out, so I looked bad as well as felt bad. I didn't try anything else as it was far too scary to do so. -
Simplest solution, Piece of plastic sheet duct taped to stop water splashing on the unit. The unit should be above the level of the shower head. Does that unit have a button to check a cut out? I can't see one. I wouldn't feel safe using one without. As said above, I'd be concerned to see if the unit is actually earthed. Just because the cable has an earth wire, it doesn't mean that it's connected at either end to earth.

I have dual passports too. I'd leave the country using that country passport and enter the different country using that country passport. I'd give the airline the passport details of current country, but is that a new thing? I don't recall being asked that when I booked. I'm pretty sure the airline only care that a person is able to enter destination country, so they don't have the hassle of taking them back if rejected. Why would they care what passport one travels on? They probably only care that she has a valid passport to enter on and has enough time left on passport ie 6 months. BTW, I'm pretty sure that your wife should exit Britain on a British passport if she used that to enter on. As always, the only people that really know the answer will be the airline.

Canny politicians can pull the wool over voters eyes for a while. Tony Blair certainly did so in his second election. -

The next step, NO STAFF in a store !

I've mentioned it before on this forum, but imagine being able to travel without leaving home? No need to fly to Thailand to see the temples any more- just pop on the virtual reality headset and it's like being there. Perhaps the boffins of the future can also give the happy ending experience without the chance of contracting some nasty. -

Fair enough, but after we all go cashless and can't go back what is to stop banks imposing a transaction fee? Even a few cents for each would result in massive profits for the banks. With that much money to be extorted, I fear it's inevitable. -
One of my neighbours has no computer, never had a computer, doesn't want a computer and is a happier chap than I for it. He doesn't even go to the library for e mails ( probably doesn't know what an e mail is ). After every problem I experience with my computer experience I tell him how much I envy him. To be honest, if I could go back to 2001 I'd never buy that first computer that gave me access to the great and extremely addictive internet, and consider myself better off for it.
