  1. I get the impression that China is educating women better than before. Whenever women get educated the birth rate tends to fall. One only needs to look at Japan where they have a falling birth rate, declining marriage rate etc. file:///C:/Users/Owner/Downloads/leader0002.pdf Japanese women are strongly inclined to reject prospective marriage partners without equal or higher levels of education, and as they acquire advanced educations, it becomes harder for them to find a suitable partner. Happened long ago in Singapore where the government was running campaigns to try and get educated women to have babies. https://www.aware.org.sg/2010/11/the-birth-of-awarepart-one/ An accompanying trend of reduced birth rate was that women with higher education were having a smaller number of children than women with lower education levels.
  2. Exactly right. Back in the 1950s cars were unaffordable for many- they used buses or bicycles. No reason why city dwellers can't do the same now as long as there is a bus service.
  3. What about us that are not right wing and don't like her, Harry or Markel et al?
  4. IMO most bar beers will vanish because it's cheaper/ easier to find some "company" on the internet. Obviously some will survive as guys like to drink and oggle girls, but the unpopular ones that never had many customers will be gone. It's not the time to be buying a bar beer IMO.
  5. Perhaps not everyone likes traffic jams and concrete. I liked it for about a week at a time, but had to get out then.
  6. Those were 2 stroke m'bikes. I remember well the huge puff of smoke as all the m'bikes at the traffic lights pulled away. Back then it was quicker to walk in Bkk than take a bus, the jams were so bad. The worst was the road to Don Mueang before they built the overhead expressway. Always stressfull not knowing if getting to airport before flight closed, despite giving it an extra 2 hours to get there.
  7. If I could have stayed I'd still be there, whether it's not as good as before or not. Whatever, it's still better than where I am. Sadly, my LOS days are no more. I chose to leave because I couldn't afford health insurance, and short of winning Lotto never going back. I envy all that still get to live in the best country on planet earth.
  8. Don't Americans need a laugh track to know when to laugh at "comedy shows" on tv? Perhaps that's because they are not actually funny.
  9. It would be a magical wall that wouldn't melt.
  10. Agree 100% with not having kids- a bottomless pit financially. I only know 2 families my entire life that had nice kids, and that doesn't include my family. So, I see nothing that makes me think having kids was a good idea.
  11. You do realise that we earned a lot less when young don't you? I earned about $20 for an 84 hour week when I started out. I could have saved every cent I earned and it wouldn't amount to diddley squat now. IMO the best we can do when young is not get into debt for silly things- best not to get into debt at all. I cut up my credit card in my 30s- best thing financially I ever did.
  12. IMO a major driver of costs in the US health system is people suing them for anything. They have to charge a lot to cover the cost of insurance. Most countries don't have that so costs are lower. BTW, if nurses were paid what they were worth the health system would cost waaaaay more than it does. Be grateful they choose to work for less than they deserve.
  13. What is that meaning? Immigration don't like tourists staying in LOS too long as the suspicion is that they are working illegally.
  14. Right! Whatever any other poster's experience, it's always down to the individual immigration officer to decide what is acceptable.
  15. Trump needs to have someone that he listens to make him understand that he is yesterday's man, and retire. It's not like he needs the money. I hope he isn't able to stand again, as we don't need another 4 years of the attacks, which is the likely outcome if he did win. At worst, he'd split the vote and let the Democrats win again.
  16. Not many do. Lots of Sunday Christians don't give their second coat to the poor. IMO it wasn't so much about his Christian values ( or lack of ) that they supported him for, but rather the values of his opponent that they didn't want in any shape or form. With that election it always came back to voting for the least worst candidate.
  17. OK, but why pay for yacht crew to fly if it was sailed by them?
  18. Indeed, they are using more German dirty coal instead.
  19. The translation of BM in google is probably not the BM you are referring to, so an explanation of that in words would be appreciated.
  20. I'm unable to open the link in the OP, but he was pretty famous about 30 years ago.
  21. NZ has large areas of the country with no proper public transport, so unless they can drive, how can they do the shopping, or take kids to school etc? I imagine it's like that in many countries. Problem is that it's mainly townies that make the rules in government.
  22. IMO this is nothing. Once AI/ robotics comes on stream there are going to be a lot more than that out of jobs.
  23. Not being a digital engineer I have no idea. What sort of contract did they have?
  24. Real job? I don't think she knows what that is. IMO every farmer in the country will be celebrating.
  25. Neither party has a valid excuse for the debt. Enough blame to go around for all politicians last 30 or so years.
