  1. It's been claimed a Russian missile hit a grain silo in Poland and on the news a NATO meeting is being convened to discuss a response. Is this the beginning of WW3? Times like this bring the Gulf of Tonkin to my mind.
  2. LOL. Didn't do the Federalist Society much good then, did it?
  3. According to Al Jazeera the GOP is now one seat from victory in the house. If the Dems take the house now ( with a literally last minute "surge" ), it will, IMO, certainly rile up conflict as many will suspect fraud ( due to time being taken to count votes ) whether that is true or not.
  4. That was started when I was in the NHS way back in first decade of this century. However, let's remember that every doctor or nurse recruited from Africa is one less there, so just transferring the shortage from the UK to Africa. While I can't comment on why not enough British people want to be doctors ( perhaps because it's not a great job and the financial return for the cost and time involved in becoming a doctor isn't enough- same as why British people don't want to be nurses ) I can comment on nurses. They could eliminate the shortage of nurses quite easily though- stop pretending it's a profession, and train nurses in hospitals like they used to before the woke took over nursing. Being paid to work while training will bring in candidates. Also bring back enrolled nurses. It is a tragedy that they were ended. I was trained in hospital and successfully worked as a nurse for decades after which puts the lie to the idea that a degree is needed for ward nurses- for nurses that go on to advanced positions ( nurse practitioners ) it is needed but they are a tiny minority of nurses.
  5. Alas, people often elect a politician only for them not to deliver on the promises. I guess the recent election result was in part a reaction to that.
  6. Indeed both sides do it.That's why Trump got elected.
  7. OK explain this. From BEFORE the covid pandemic. The latest available data from the Department of Education shows 27 per cent of children – 173,765 pupils – had not met the expected reading standard by the end of Key Stage 2 in 2019. This was two per cent – or 19,596 pupils – higher than the previous year. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/children-england-reading-pandemic-b2035201.html
  8. WOW. If they keep being reasonable I might have to change my mind about CNN.
  9. Of course there are good reasons for it. I suggest you do some research. It's not complicated.
  10. Are you not aware that the popular vote isn't a factor in US presidential elections? For very good reasons.
  11. That's a LOT of people when employers are begging for workers, and I'm sure a lot of jobs don't require a degree to do.
  12. I'm not saying that teachers fail all children. Just the ones that don't learn to read or write properly. Even mine taught me that. Mine were all rubbish at teaching, but surely there must be some good ones out there.
  13. Shouldn't that be carriers? I thought they had two of the big targets floating now. Remember when America bought British aircraft to put on their marine carriers? Does Britain make anything any more?
  14. Sorry, but that would take too long to explain if you don't know already. I learned basically nothing of any use during my time at school ( expensive private school ) because the teachers couldn't motivate the students to learn. Only the top tier of students got good teachers- had to keep up the reputation to attract paying customers. Looking at school kids now, I doubt they learn much more than I did. Not many want to learn how to do worthwhile jobs like electricians or plumbers. It's media studies, or such like silliness. They don't even learn the value of working hard to win, given winning isn't allowed, nor rough games in case the little princes and princesses scrape a knee.
  15. LOL. What's 3.5 % of 67 million ( population of Britain ). That's a lot not working when jobs are available.
  16. There should be not a single British citizen on the dole so long as there is a lower level, more menial job available. Why should the taxpayer pay those too proud to work a menial job to stay at home? It's shameful that Britain relies on people that have to come from thousands of miles away to do jobs that those in Britain could do. Don't reduce the payment. stop it altogether.
  17. Whatever happens in the next two years, IMO if the GOP can't unite they are doomed to minority in congress for at least the remainder of my life on this planet.
  18. I spent many, many years visiting Thailand and years living in Thailand. I never encountered a law that was "bad" for me, so if there are "racist" laws, I didn't care as they didn't affect me. The immigration is a pain in the proverbial, but only once a year and paying an agency made all the inconvenience vanish. Can we say that about immigration in our own countries? In fact, I felt entirely accepted in LOS as an alien- never had an issue with racism against me.
  19. LOL. The longer the delay the more people will suspect that fraud has occurred if there is an unexpected win.
  20. The message I refer to is that Washington is "swampy" and needs to be reformed. That message had no problem gaining millions and millions of votes from voters that were looking for a champion against Washington. Unfortunately the champion had enough defects of character that the establishment were able to deflect attention from the message to make it about Trump personally.
  21. I thought this thread was about the new electric powered helicopter using drone technology. The current model has only 2 seats and no large luggage, but has potential. I am a bit worried that they want to make it pilotless though. What could possibly go wrong with that?
  22. I'd like to see a return to large airships ( using helium ) for long distance travel. They are large enough to put solar panels on them to power the motors and of course they fly above the clouds. Those 500 passengers might get there a bit slower, but with increased comfort.
  23. The current best alternative to oil fired power stations is nuclear, as PROVEN by France, but due to IMO woke inspired anti propaganda, they are not an option for most countries.
  24. More like impose a biased viewpoint. Only the "correct" opinions permitted.
