US midterms: Republicans narrowly win back the House
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
IMO intentional from the founding fathers. They feared a government grown too powerful, so made it possible for the people to divide the government and restrict the power of government, so IMO the system they designed is working. One has to remember they overthrew a powerful king and had no desire to see new "kings" in the USA. -
For a city the size of C M the people that run it are useless IMO. They didn't even put on anything at new years eve ( before covid ) and considering it's a tourist place that's pretty bad. Don't know where the money goes, but it doesn't go to cleaning the roads or improving the infrastructure. I also blame them for the pathetic night life ( actually lack of night life ).

I've never even heard of that individual, so must have been hiding. If they are in charge of the southern border then IMO they should be sacked and forced to walk between lines of people mocking them. -

If I didn't then you will have to live without. Jai yen, jai yen, it's a forum, not the UN. -

I just read the linked article and I'd forgotten that Nancy loses the speaker position. Oh the joy not having to see her on tv any more. It's getting better and better. -
Why is the UK struggling more than other countries?
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
Perhaps it's more because the particular immigrants that settled in his area made it an unpleasant place to live. Had they been more pleasant he might well have stayed. Using a broad brush to say all immigrants are the same is a nonsense. -

Asia encompasses a great many different cultures, so your comment would only apply if all the Asians in his home town were Thais. -

I'd like to agree with you, but I doubt that anything would happen to him if left to local law enforcement. Rich people or people with influential families seem to get away with bad things that the ordinary bloke would go down for. -

I fundamentally disagree. If Biden steps down Kamala takes over and no matter how bad Biden has been, IMO it'd be nothing compared to the havoc she would wreak on the world. Her pathetic time on the border issue IMO shows that she just can't get important stuff done. It's only 2 years till next elections and Biden's has lost the house, so the best thing we can do IMO is to wait it out with Biden in the big chair. -

On the one hand I agree with you and on the other hand I really, really want Hunter Biden to go down hard. -

Oh this is going to be so good. Time to stock up on popcorn. -
The consensus seems to be that it was indeed a Ukrainian missile. Certainly Biden was on tv and he was not disagreeing with that conclusion, though he did say something about waiting and seeing. Of course the Ukrainian president is saying it is Russian, as IMO he is desperately trying to get NATO involved in the war. So far they have resisted, and I hope they continue to do so, bar what they are already doing.

Donald Trump 2024: Why it will be harder for him to run this time
thaibeachlovers replied to Scott's topic in World News
Just heard on Al Jazeera that Murdoch has withdrawn his support for Trump, so no more Fox help. I said a couple of days ago that Trump will likely struggle to get financial backing for his run, which in itself will probably mean he does not succeed, barring some unknown event in his favour. Even attacking DeSantos when Trump is becoming so unpopular outside his base could mean that DeSantos becomes more popular. If that means DeSantos wins in 24, that's OK with me. -

Hurrah! It should have been a big majority, but a win is a win. It's enough to see certain committees vanish, and to slow, if not halt, the Biden agenda.- 95 replies

Perhaps not as much as Musk said, but I never got free meals from any job I did, so if he wants to cut the free meals, he has every right to do so. -

What country are you talking about? I was never resented by "many of the locals" in Thailand. -

Blaming Brexit for the NHS staff shortage is, IMO, deflecting from the real reason the NHS had to use imported labour in the first place, which is that the NHS pay is not sufficient to get British people to become nurses and doctors. When I first started working for the NHS they had loads of agency nurses because agencies paid better. The government stopped agency nurses working in NHS hospitals and recruited from Africa because that meant they could continue to pay rubbish wages.
