  1. You obviously didn't read the article!! AFM is not sand! Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  2. Well my dozens of happy customers and the obvious much better results are enough for me! I am sure sappersrest would agree with me on this with his experience!
  3. Still working on a complicated system for an Island down south! However 2!
  4. Look up John at Siam Pools C/M! Good colleague in the industry! I am about to source 2 from him!
  5. Make me laugh! Another Google expert!
  6. No they don't! I have been involved with hudreds of municiple, resorts & 5 star hotel pools in 3 countries. The basically are the same however there is obviously different systems. However in most cases filtration is the same concept and proccess including backwashing. I also was involve with a project that involved Griifth University & Qld Education 's 400 + school pools! Also 2 yr project with Griffith university when the Cryptosporidium outbreak accured!
  7. I bet that was recycled bottle glass and not recycled plate glass! As sand breaks down and looses its sharp edges it is stuffed. End of story! I will stick with my experience with "Eco Clear" recycled plate glass with many dozens of happey customers! These are some results of "Eco" which filters dwon to 4-5 microns on par but actually better than DE!
  8. Backwashing is reduced so are chemicals and salt depending on how you sanitise your pool. Your thinking is opposite to how it really works. You need angles for better filtration. "Eco Clear" doesn't hold on to biofilm so it's flushed out. Read the brochure I attached in previou reply. I also have 30 yrs in the industry but only been using "Eco Clear" glass for 6 yrs. sappersrest is corect in his replies.
  9. I have used "Eco Clear" recycled plate glass extensively for yrs now! Best move I ever did for my pool & house side of the filtration business ! I used Zeolite for yrs however it has its pitfalls with heavy metals in the water. "Eco" doesn't have these issues! See attached brochure! However big difference between "Eco" & recycled bottle glass which I recommend to stay away from! Eco Clear.pdf
  10. Ignorance is strong in a lot of people! As they say here "Up to You" I can't be bothered with backyard experts! All I do is offer my well earned 30+ yrs experience with both high end commercial pools and & now many dozens of domestic pools! (Hands on) Disagree and try and prove me wrong after 1 backyard pool and or behind a keyboard - I don't CARE! Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
  11. Thanks carlyai. You answer is correct. However the channels can be caused by other issues as well. In the profession it's called "Channeling" (Not the entity type) Bahahaha Most of the sand in Thailand is river sand with minimal quartz. So it does break down quickly. Mostly caused by backwashing. In a lot of cases every time a native goes into a pump room they do a backwash which in turn reduces the life of the media! Typically a domestic pool only needs a backwash monthly. This obviously comes down to bather load and environmental conditions!
  12. 50/50 But heavy on the B/S side of better! Mosiac are not appropriate for pool surfaces for many reasons! The glaze on your tiles would be completly gone! Probably no grout left as well! You generalise from 1 pool when I can attest to 100's! What are you trying to PROOVE? Go to the DIY <deleted>! ????????????
  13. We just finished this pool at Lake Mabprachan. Now we are starting on the neighbours. Both have opted for the PuraPool "Oxy Minerale" sanitation system using pink Himalayan salts. Great for the skin & a fresh water bathing experience! This pool has unusually big & deep *not uncommon though" grout lines. (Took 8 buckets of Weber) I guessed 6. This pool the steps & coping where stuffed! Steps as usual, where full of water which meant drilling a hole and letting the drain. (Very common) Pump roon demolished and rebuilt bigger.
  14. If it has worked for awhile already, that is not the issue. From experience, I can bet 80/90% it is worn sand!
  15. Good find. The places I can sourse silica sand & Eco are the same at around 550 p/25 kg. (So my supplier for Eco is cheaper) Problem with 25kg is most freight companies only will deal with 20kg! Eco is streets ahead for better filtration & life. You will notice the explination of benefits for the "Eco" in the link but none with the silica sand! They also claim the "Eco" is Australian made which it's not. It is just bagged in Australia. The best Silica sand does come from Australia.
  16. Real silicate sand is basically the same price as Eco & Zeolite. Depends who you are getting it from! Silicate sand is imported!
  17. Zelbrite is a brand name, Zeolite is the product. (Best is from Straya) I used Zeolite extensively for quite awhile. (It has many usefull atributes and uses) However I found out the hardway with water with high metal (Mostly Iron) that it has issues very quickly. "Eco Clear" recycled plate glass (As appossed to bottle glass) is superior in many ways. Most being it doesn't have issues with clogging up. Not just pools but also water filtration in general! Both being comparable in price "Eco" wins all the way!
  18. Another backyard expert generalising! Not sales talk but 30 yrs experience with 17 in Thailand. You didn't read the post properly! I have solved this problem dozens of times by changing the media! There are 2 grades of sand available sea or river. Washed & unwashed. Zelbrite is Zeolite and is superior to sand and lasts about twice as long as sand It takes out metals and does a finer filtration! However being cage like it does clog up if the make up water has a lot of metal in it! Then it needs recharging or replacing! It's on par in the short term with "Eco Clea" and the same price! "Eco Clear" takes out metals, does not clog up, doesn't hold Biofilm as does the others and last 3 times as long! Read the brochure on the original post!
  19. The biggest con continues around the globe unless you are a flat earther! Bahahaha
  20. This is a common problem! How old is the media? My bet it is stuffed! You won't tell by looking at it. As the powdered up sand is in the mix! Sand they supply here last 18 months at best. Everytime a native goes in a pump room they do a backwash! This quickens the degridation of the media. Even silicate sand only has a life of 5 yrs with normal once per month backwashing! As Carlyai says "Eco Clear" recycled plate glass is the go. Fantastic results and last 3 times longer than silicate sand! Same price as silicate sand as well. It's that good it look like no water in the pool at night! See attached brochure! Eco Clear.pdf
