  1. I posted this in the CM forum, but as it is bike related, here is is for those of you that are not in CM, but would like to attend. I trust that the Mods will not chastise me for double posting

The 4th annual Chiangmai ToyRide in aid of disadvantaged children is Feb 20. No admission charge: just bring along a new toy to warm a needy child’s heart.

The Chiang Mai ToyRide 2011 will meet at 9:45 am at the Tesco Lotus-Kamtieng, which is located on the Super Highway (Rte 11) just north of the city.

This years route will be a 52km. ride of approximately one hour duration. It will parade through the heart of Chiang Mai and Thapae Gate. We will head south crossing the Ping River, then circle back and enjoy the mountain view as we head north along the Canal Rd. to the party site at the X-Centre Zorb Ball site in Mae Rim, for an afternoon of games for the kids and music for the adults.

All motorcyclists are invited to join the event whether their bikes are large or small, and we hope to see you there.

More info on our website at www.chiangmaitoyride.com

  3. By "pump gas" I meant gasoline or petrol served up at the local pump

AKI (Anti Knock Index) was a typo

In any case the answer to my question is Thai petrol is RON rated

    Thanks

One of my buddies races buggies and I see 45 gal drums of 100 Octane Av gas in his shop

How is Av gas rated as one would think it must be a worldwide standard?

  4. Using them on the external filter and cooler for the oiling system of my 2332 cc Speedster engine. Push on hose would work, but proper hydraulic fittings are proper looking and can be disassembled for ease of engine removal.

Problem solved as I finally discovered that 37.5 degree AN fittings are called JM fittings in Thailand

  5. If you cut the wire they will eventually repair it.

Push a small pin through the cable, so that it shorts the 2 conductors - preferably in a buried location. Snip off the protruding ends so that it will be difficult to locate the fault. This will keep then busy trying to rectify the problem and they likely will either give up, or decide that there is no budget to replace defective electronics.

Do not do this when the wire is live.

    Have fun

  6. I have Speedster bodies in Chiangmai, but by the time you are done it will cost you way more than a buggy due to the bespoke Porsche parts required.

There are some nice Diatshau based buggies built is Korat, but no book and impossible to get one, as it is new construction and does not use a donor with an existing book.

  7. DAvid and I lead the ride from Tesco and as usual there was a bit of a circle jerk in getting everyone started in an orderly fashion and I can see how you got left behind. Do not feel bad, nor is this a reflection on having a Wave, as year 2 I got left behind on a BMW, and I was supposed to be leading.

This is year 4 and we have learned a lot and are planning on having volunteers to marshal the start of the ride a bit better. All bikes big and small are welcome, and given that Wave type type bikes are the majority in CM, we hope so see more participating in the ride.

This year I am going to lead on my Royal Enfield so there is no ability to "shoot off" given its alledged 22 HP. This is a charity ride, not a race and all bikes big and small are welcome. Please come to the start at Tesco and participate so that we have a big parade of decorated bikes around CM and gain some exposure to help these kids.

  8. ABS has saved me twice now, although it is a bit disconcerting for an experienced rider when you are squeezing and nothing is happening. Good thing the Versys has it as the brakes feel like wood and unless EBC pads fix it I am going to fit better brakes.

Not sold on linked brakes however, and would prefer individual control over each end, but this is not for the inexperienced, nor perhaps most effective in emergency stops.

  9. How good of an artist do I need to be? I like to paint, I have a motorcycle and February 20th is my birthday....sounds like it was meant to be!

Thanks for the offer, and with the PM I received, that is 2 face painter volunteers. This was one of the most popular events last year for the kids and 2 people are really needed for this. Having said that, the more the merrier as we can use volunteers to help out during the day.

Sansai Sam - PM me with your email and and we can keep you up to date with the event scheduling

All riders on bikes big and small are welcome on this Feb 20 main ride day event, and we hope to see you there

  10. I did it myself and no problems. With 4.2 you will have to change to the Ipad baseband at the same time but easy enough

Or just pay someone 4-500 to do it for you and same on the learning curve.
