But quite normal in Thai schools. If a teacher isn't raping them - which is what this is - then they are hitting them. And once it's exposed, we discover that the school has tried to hush it up, which is aiding and abetting and supporting the rapist or violent thug. A very primitive society, but just part of the culture.

Thai woman loses legs after lying on a train track in Pattaya
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Interesting to see the usual moronic posts from such sensitive readers of AN, displaying their schoolboy humour. Again. It's not only Thais who have the mind of a child, is it. -
Super Deal Worked Out In Hong Kong: Chuwit
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Even if they - other countries - care, which I doubt, condemnation means absolutely nothing at all. It's just words. Governments and groups such as NATO and the UN constantly "condemn in the strongest possible terms" and that's it. Words and words only. -
There is less and less chance of this happening as the years pass. The Daily Telegraph ran a campaign that went nowhere, and with the UK economy struggling the chance of them changing their policy is a guaranteed non-starter. No point in wasting time trying to persuade them that their policy is unfair. They don't care, which is why they instituted the policy to begin with. It doesn't cost them any votes. I do find it ironic that some Commonwealth countries are in the same boat as us in Thailand, whereas others who are not get the increase. USA yes, Canada no, for example.

Pak Chong tragedy: Nephew murders uncle over insult feud
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
You are never safe if you are out and about in Thailand. Any moment, if you come across a mentally ill idiot roaming the streets (one threw a rock at my wife's car as she drove by, for no reason at all), or if you argue with a Thai over anything you could be set upon by a group of rapid Neanderthals - who might not even know what the issue is about - or be shot or attacked with a machete. Most of the time you are fine, but it's the one time you might not be which is the problem. The place is a tinder box. -
Well, bosses work too and are therefore working people. But I take your point.

The King's birthday is not alcohol free. The late King made that decision. -
Extra-long weekend in Thailand: here’s what you need to know

Please let us know if you hear of anyone panic buying. I never have. Thanks. -
Same in many, if not all, countries. Have you ever heard of a PM or President who is poor?

Thaksin to return home on August 10, Paetongtarn says
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And Thaksin has very large brown envelopes to make the prospect of any time in jail go away. -

He also oversaw the war on drugs (which clearly failed, as it has failed everywhere else in the world), during which the police were seemingly able to execute with impunity anyone they considered to be a dealer. No trial or proof necessary. It was also during his reign that one of his ministers introduced the ban on alcohol sales during the afternoon, and who wanted to close bars at 10 and nightclubs at midnight. -
Thai wife being bullied by family
Bangkok Barry replied to thefarangteacher's topic in Marriage and Divorce
That won't work. Often, the main reason Thais have a kid is so that they will look after them in old age. It's an insurance policy of sorts, in the absence of a welfare system. It also explains why many Thai parents do not raise their own kids but pass on that responsibility to their own parents, who often struggle to look after themselves, let along a boisterous kid. They are not parents in the Western sense. The result is that the kids are not disciplined and we often see the result of that. -
This is how a little child would behave. We see this quite often in Thailand, and it is always, always a young woman who is responsible. Actually, irresponsible is the correct word. Just more proof to me that many Thais have the mind of a child and simply cannot cope with responsibility. How difficult is it to throw their rubbish out. And we had a case recently, and it was another relative, who couldn't even cope with washing her dishes, putting dirty plates in cupboards until there were none left to use.

George Orwell inspired Russian restaurant in Bangkok

Only by those who can't differentiate between a dictator and warmonger and the 143 million other Russians. -
George Orwell inspired Russian restaurant in Bangkok
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Bizarre post. What has any of that got to do with a long-time resident of Thailand opening a restaurant? He's Russian so he is responsible for what a leader he might detest is doing? Really? -

So you would condemn his business because of his nationality? I guess that makes you a racist of sorts. Why not go and meet him and ask if he supports or condemns Vlad Putrid first. You know, gather some facts. -
Move Forward suspends security team member
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And from the linked report: Supisarn claimed that he has not yet met Srisuriyane in person, but saw him from afar and thought he was a former police officer by his appearance. (That's okay then. He looked right). The more I read about the Move Forward Party the more I think they have the collective mind of a child. First, the fiasco of Pita not declaring his shares, leaving the door wide open to ban him from politics. Now a convict who was sentenced to 12 years in jail is given a role as part of his security detail, no vetting by the Party done for such a high security position. You just couldn't make it up. -
I learned very early on during my time in Thailand, advised by my wife, to never step on these covers. Strange that this woman didn't know never to do that, especially when - according to locals - it has been visible and a problem for a long time. Not looking where she was going? On her phone? I remember a Bangkok governor once went out with the media to demonstrate that the sidewalks were safe, and fell down such a hole when the cover broke under his feet.

Joint House/Senate Session To Pick PM Put Off
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why? Because the Thai Baht and anything else about Thailand is irrelevant on the world stage. What happens in Thailand has no bearing or influence at all outside of its borders. No-one really cares. At one stage during the 2010 riots it actually increased in value, if my memory is correct. -
I haven't had to use them - yet - but I keep the transfer receipt from Wise (I assume that is what you mean by paper trail) relating to my monthly transfers from the UK into my Bangkok Bank account. That shows the date, original currency (although not the originating bank) and the exchange rate and the amount in Thai Baht. Also the partner bank, Kasikorn, that is used. If Immigration won't accept that then ask why. On what grounds, when it shows where it has come from and when, who from and to who, and how much? What else do they need to assess its validity? Seems to me they're just being a pain in the ar*e which they believe their uniform entitles them to be. Same with too many in Thailand who wear one, believing it's a license to bully. The problem, of course, is that you can't argue with a closed mind or expect any logic, and they hold all the cards and can do and say whatever they want. Challenge them at your peril.

I blocked him long ago, but still have to see his nonsense quoted in other posts. Not too often, fortunately.
