  1. agreed. the tax collection system is antiquated, riddled with loopholes, as simple as just not keeping records, not issuing receipts (try going to a private medical clinic! )
  2. this may have been covered already - but I cannot find a reference to it. I am switching from the 800k TD to the income method for my OA retirement visa extension, early next year. An IO officer quotes one set of requirements and the official IO website quotes another set of rules: IO: (i) to prove your pension income, you must present copies of the foreign bank account into which the pension payments are received. (ii) not interested in copies of Thai bank account, showing incoming funds for the 12 months (iii) not interested in Inward Remittance Notices for the year (iv) your Thai dividend income does not count in the earnings calculation. (v) from another source (my Thai tax accountant) rental income from a Thai property does qualify, if it is a professionally managed property, if not you are classified as working and risk losing your retirement visa status Note: this is irrelevant to me - I have rental income but I do not need to include it in my income calculation. I just mention it, because it was surprising to learn this. IO publised regulations: documents required, as proof - proof of 800TD, or a combination of TD and income equalling at least 800k in the previous year. ''income'' is defined as - ''pension, interest & dividend income'' . any feed-back would be appreciated.
  3. I think that an alternative (for one year only) is to bring in as much money as you can, before Dec 31, 2023. It is tax free. Then again, may are forecasting that this idiotic new tax will never get legislated.
  4. the latest scuttlebug from the IO in my province (NST) is: that you have to leave the 400k in the bank for the entire previous 12 months, if that is the basis for you extension application. The regulation #4 under the heading ''criteria'' at https://www.immigration.go.th/en/?p=14714 has not been changed. so i have no idea why. Once you are on the income basis for subsequent extensions, the combination of income plus term deposit for 12 months = 400,000 baht. another 'shocker' from my IO yesterday, when i was proposing to apply for an extension on the 800,000/year income basis, is that IO will NOT accept a combination of (i) pension income (from abroad) combined with (ii) dividend income received from Thai equities/Income Funds. At the same website, again, under the retirement rules, under the heading ''List of Documents'' it states that you must show evidence of income, such as retirement pension, dividends/interest. It does not make a distinction between dividends received in your foreign bank account and dividends received in your Thai bank account. Go figure. I am trying to cash in my 800k as I need it for repairs to the property. I do not have anywhere close to 800k pension, but I shifted my funds here and I have in excess of 800k in thai dividends. Any advice? I do not want to use a Visa agent, as I believe that one you use them for an extension, you are, sort of, hooked into using them every year.
  5. ignorance of all owners manuals and fast on the draw are 2 of my favourite pastimes. all done and replacement machine is on its way . thanks for holding my hand. :)

  7. one more step Format drive C. and I'm puzzled by the message: cannot format drive as it includes W11. FAQ provides guidance on formatting a HD partition. but thats not the answer, is it? hoping I can get this out of the way, as the pick up of the tablet is scheduled for today.
  8. Thanks for that advice, really appreciate it!! yeah, ive done a back up. actually Ill do a another on a 2nd external hard drive, (b/c I'm Irish: ''just to be sure to be sure'' ) 555
  9. excuse if this is a duplicate question. My warrant is one week out from expiring. for several months my battery has been losing charge, more and more quickly. I done all the self servicing, (closing power-sucking apps and all the other recommendations from MS). the max I get from a full charge is 3 hours. other tests include one showing 50% loss in 1 hour. I wrote MS support, as I cannot contact the support line atm. the only choice seems to be to place a repair/service order, which they are quoting 10500. My question: does the standard 12 month warrant cover the battery performance degrading as much as I described. ? thanks for any advice.
  10. if you're revisiting the past, remember using a Coke can as a bong?

  13. clever boy: when you reach my age late 70s you will find that you're lucky to have just a handful of REAL friends. Interestingly enough none of them are on Aseannow or facebook. mine include an atheistic, a Jew a Catholic, a gay couple and the american fellow who saved us in the tsunami (which would make him a Christian) . . so buzz off smarty pants.
  14. You must be joking? Taking this ''current event'' as a standalone? - I surrender to your bigger brain. 555
  15. That post finally shows some perspective on my attitudes, instead of your usual asides. You do have a selective memory, tho' occasionally. I have said more than once on this thread that I dislike what the Israeli government has allowed over the years. 6 million Jews and Roma's were shot, burned alive or starved to death by the Nazis in the Holocaust; all due to racism and anti antisemiticism. I would think that the following generations would have shown a bit more empathy towards Palestinians over the years prior to this horrific event. Ironically, you would think Israelis are conversant with the 'golden rule': do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. If you deflect again and reply that this is off topic and has nothing to do with the build up to the current war, that is your prerogative, under the rules of free speech.
  16. First, let me congratulate you, seeing that you have your own special version of Encyclopedia Britannica.. Next, let's get some facts in the way of your specious remark about my post being 'suspect'. The Balfour agreement of 1917 was just a letter - from Britain's Foreign Sectary to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community. It was followed by a public statement issued by the British government, announcing its support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, then an Ottoman region with a small minority Jewish population. I called it an artificial basis for a country - as ''national home is not an internationally defined term. Even today, you have the UN on the one side arguing that the Israeli settlers land grabs are illegal. The updated Balfour Declaration of 1948 meant that the Palestinians faced the prospect of being outnumbered by unlimited immigration, and of losing control of Palestine to the Zionist drive for sole sovereignty over a country that was then almost completely Arab in population and culture. refs: (wilki) and The Consequences of the Balfour Declaration, by Avi Shlaim (2005). At this stage, your next responses is likely to be a bare bones boring reply. Realizing that I cannot add anything of any interest to this thread, I'm abandoning it now. as Richard Nixon once said, 'you wont have me to kick around anymore'.
  17. another ''confused''emoticon.........someone has a broken keyboard.
  18. I'm feeling my energy levels are dropping, at just about every page I read. maybe it's time to un-follow.
  19. when you have nothing to add that is useful to anyone on this thread, just say nothing. Mostly, you're quite imaginative - but here, it is like you are fishing for brownie points or you're addicted to making cheap shots.
  20. the expression is as old as the hills. ''some of my best friends are (fill in the blank).'' You're quite naive, for a keyboard warrior. It was meant in jest - like shooting fish in a barrel 555
  21. why not put a bit of effort into updating your terminology?a world wide common mistake is to say being anti Israeli is anti Jew. Anti Jew (haters) are referred to as antisemitic. some of my best friends are of the Jewish persuasion. That still leaves me free to criticize Israel, or at least its government.
